As a girl Raïssa Bump spent hours making beaded jewelry and weaving. She later went on to study jewelry at Rhode Island School of Design and Alchmia School of Contemporary Jewelry in Florence, Italy. Since graduating, Raïssa has had her own studio, making mostly jewelry and a little knitwear. She exhibits her jewelry in galleries across the country and is skilled at making both intricate one-of-a-kind pieces and beautiful edition collections. She brings observations of patterns in architecture, nature, and textiles into pieces and focuses on the distant view as well as the detail. Raïssa is committed to sharing what she knows with others and teaches workshops around the country at places like Penland School of Crafts. In 2008 she completed a yoga teacher training with Ana Forrest and is actively teaching a ‘stretches for makers’ workshop in both the classroom and workplace setting. This workshop brings to the attention of makers the importance of taking care of their hands, eyes, neck etc. so that they can relieve physical stresses of their work and continue their creative practice pain and injury free. Raïssa is on the board of the Art Jewelry Forum and lives and works in a storefront space close to the beach in San Francisco.
