Everybody welcome to creative live I'm thrilled that you're with us today my name is true councilman and I'll be your host for this course able tio push fast start with josh spoon we're lucky to have josh here josh is ah first time instructor at creative live and he's a producer based out of los angeles california he's able to in certified instructor in a master of all things push eso you're going to learn a lot in this course and I'm gonna turn it right over to you josh welcome you thanks through yeah hey guys how's it going uh like he said I'm just moon uh my full name is josh weatherspoon I'm producing musician started years ago playing traditional instruments things like that still play a little bit um and then a few about eight years ago I kind of stumbled into able to live and have been using that since two thousand eight and was it about two thousand thirteen when they announced this able to push um I was kind of at a point where I didn't know for sure if I wanted to use the com...

puter to make music it was kind of tough I had to use a mouse a lot click and things like that and I was thinking maybe I should start using hardware and things like that and maybe just give up the computer entirely um because I come from you know, a hands on tactile background but when I heard about the push I said, well, let me give it a try and see what it's like and it really changed my life in production the way that I make music, the ease of use and also really just using it has changed my life for me to be able to be here. So, uh I really enjoy this instrument, and today we're going to spend time talking about it going through different things inside of it. Um but a little bit about me going back, um like you said, I'm unable to certified trainer and ah, I also teach a musician's institute in hollywood and a cz well as, um I have a web site called the producers kitchens well, where I send out tutorials to people and videos and things like that and do one on one lessons um says a picture of me and I have a couple of albums out on things on my website you can grab on one's called beats the future it's actually, what this t shirt is, um it's back to the future condensed down to about an hour and over hip hop beats so it's pretty cool he could check that out and have another epi called man on mars if you guys are interested in my music so let's get back to push what will be covering is I'll do an overview on the push will be talking about creating beats creating melodies cords automation arranging ah and also a couple of things about extending push using max for live and some other things so I'll show you a couple of examples and then give you a couple of devices that you can go and search on the internet and then lastly we'll be talking about performing with push ah which is also really fun so what is push while um it is a mini controller but it's also um as a bolton says an instrument it's something for you to be able to create your music on from scratch and to be able to go through and duplicate clips and things like that edit them rearrange them and also be able to perform and you could do that all on here s so let's talk about the push hardware so the different sections what all is here we have a ton of knobs and buttons and you know pads and things like that so there's a lot of features in here and we're gonna go through those in a little bit but first I want to let you know is this thing is really cool because if you've ever used in a pc er the original one you had to have a power connected to it for it to work the push a cz bigas this thing is and as many license it has it will actually draw power from the u s be, which is really nice. And then it has a power court if you want to brighten it. So unplug this and you might see that it's kind of light, and then if I plug it back in, it brightens up. So you have that nice option. Um, there are two foot switches right here on the front and the first puts, which allows you to do sustain for your cords, and the second one allows you to, um, easily just start recording a calypso. You can have foot to foot switches down there and then focus on playing and then sustaining and starting clips and everything. There also it's it's. Not that big it's, eleven inches by fortune inches and one inch tall. So I throw this in my bag. You know it's heavier than my laptop, but it's not that heavy if I take this all over the place with me, it's, about six and a half pounds so it's. Not that bad. I really, um, doesn't bother me at all.
