Class Introduction
We have a very exciting class today we're gonna be talking about cutting edge letting techniques this technology's been around for two or three years but it's been perfected only in the last year so, and it really allows us to take our photography to a whole other level I think. So to start out the introduction for this class, let's talk a little bit about who's this class for, it says Advanced Lighting for Adventure Photographers by the advanced what do we mean by advanced in that? You know it's not that we're necessarily spending hours and hours and hours in a studio crafting the lighting, we are using techniques called high sync, and hyper sync, and hi speed sync that allow us to sync our cameras up to 8,000 of a second where for we're using leaf shutters with medium formats up to the top shutter speeds of those cameras. So it's basically this high speed sync techniques that we're using that is what qualifies this class as advanced, because these are somewhat experimental even thoug...
h they are available comercially they are somewhat experimental, so just to qualify the name of the class. This class is for people who have some lighting experience I would say, if you don't have lighting experience I would say check out some of the other classes on Creative Live they've got truckloads of lighting classes I know Mike Hagen did a few classes that kind of covered the basics here, and some of it we're not going to go over all the lighting basics you know, how to set up the strobe, all of that how it exactly works 'cause we're assuming that you know that stuff already. We will talk in depth about the high sync, you know high speed sync and hyper sync and how that technically how you achieve that. So you know if you're not spiffed up on all the lighting techniques don't worry you'll see what we're doing as we're doing it 'cause we have pre-shoot videos for the class and we're gonna cover you know basically all these techniques, this morning we're gonna go through all the technical aspects of this so you can understand how this is working, because that's critical, this is very techy, you know be kind of cruising along this morning and then there's one segment where it's gonna get super geeky for about 15 minutes where we talk about how these flash durations and how we're actually achieving this sync, and how you experiment to figure it out for your camera and your you know, controller and what system you have to make it work, and then how you can apply that to different sports or whatever you're photographing. These are the folks, the Red Bull Photographers that were with us on the pre shoot, so we've been working on this program for the last two months or more, two and a half months, there's been a lot of effort put into it, we did a pre shoot in Bend Oregon at Smith Rocks and on some of the mountain biking trails around there, and Red Bull Photography is actually sponsoring this class, thank you Red Bull Photography and Creative Live for bringing me out for this. We had Ian and Karlo, Jules, Aaron, and Niranh also known as Lil Rock, out there on the class with us who you'll see in some of the videos in the behind scene stuff with them there, it was great to have them there, they're Red Bull Photographers just like me, I've been shooting for Red Bull quite a bit so it was great fun to have them out there on the pre shoot and Aaron is even here in the live audience with us, which is great.

Great course that combines the technical aspects of shooting with light in different situations, with the art of making a great image of athletes. Michael is a great teacher and I'm sure his lessons will continue to help guide over and over again!

This is a course that I could watch repeatedly and be able to learn something new each time. Michael is a truly an expert in his field and is so generous with his knowledge. This course really breaks down the process of adventure photography, but it's more than that. I don't think you need to even be an adventure sports photographer to get tons out of this course. Michael is really good at breaking down some very complicated technology. Thank you!

Great class with dozens of tips, ideas and lighting strategies for tough outdoor lighting challenges. Advanced class taught in a way that allows even a beginner to get a handle on lighting tough situations. The location videos provide real life examples that make this class a definite must have for my Creative Live collection. Thank you Michael Clark and Creative Live! Jeph DeLorme
