Send New & Exisiting Customers to Your New Store
So now it is time to make a big deal about your online store we've got it set up we've got it seated with a few products we've got email capture it's timeto lodge all right, so here's our checklist now I understand that this launch sequence can be a little bit frustrating if you don't have a big audience and it is just the reality of the game but you need to make a big deal about it regardless because when you make a big deal out of it, it feels more special even if your audience is small so first of all in our new store launch checklist your update all of the length of your social media profiles so any place that you've been previously sending people to your shop then them to your new website and store instead also update your email signature honey people include a link to their store in their email signature now good because they're on the ball so we're gonna go ahead and change that to go to our new store they go ahead and post announcements to your social media here's the thing the...
re's a lot happening on social media, right? So it's not gonna drive everybody but we want to at least start to put it out there start to make a big deal about it and the reason that we're not moving everything over at once and we're going toe move over and launch sequence is because it gives us the opportunity to make a big deal again and again and again maybe they missed the first one you missed the second one to me by the third one there paying attention right so don't worry if you launch it kind of feels like crickets it's ok in fact it's probably normal it's fine we're going to keep going with that momentum here's the other one that I like so you've got you're probably at your business facebook page right that nothing ever happens on because facebook changed the algorithm posted to your personal facebook profile my instagram doesn't even go to my business facebook page goes to my personal facebook page you want my best customer from last year someone I've known since she was a baby she's a family friend hi ashleigh if you're watching so that is why I sent people to my party I'm picky I don't want everyone from me but I think your if I have to look at pictures of your baby you have to look at pictures of my baby which is my business posted to your personal facebook profile talk about it there really kind of make that a place where people can engage with your business because actually those are the people that care about you and love you and they're probably gonna care more than the random followers on your other social media profiles it's really true all right, then the next step is email your list if you've got one, so if you've got your list now is the time to say hey guys, new stories up I don't know over check it out, you know I put a little asterisk there if you don't have a list yet this is a good time to manually email some friends and family I just let them know spam rules apply here do not add a bunch of people, bcc them and send it out from your gmail account that is illegal, but instead you could send it to a friend. Hey bridget ice want to let you know I just open my new online shop? I would love it if you could help me spread the word, so you're directly asking your friends and family to a check it out and be share they want to help you, they want to support you and if they don't, don't send the email just enormous fine, you don't have to email like your uncle larry if he doesn't care. I don't know why I said we actually have an uncle larry he he does care, I swear, but even so, go ahead and email those people right? And then this is another one that I think is really important it's a long launch strategy not a short term but start pinning products to pinterest you're not going to be an immediate boost in traffic but pinterest is really great that kind of long tail over time traffic to make that part of your launch checklist as well I just wanted to mention was shopify now they have a pinterest um ad on yeah and so you can link both of your accounts yes, absolutely so shopify lets you link so that they're connected and then so shall I give you two things it gives you rich pins and then if you are at a certain sales volume, you're eligible for the buyable pins buyable I learned that the last time not bible buyable s so if you had a certain problem is they're so it's worth starting to see your products onto pinterest ahs well and that just gives you good back length it helps for a ceo it's really useful as well. All right, so let's talk a little bit about communicating with previous customers without violating etsy's terms of service this is challenging I'm not going to lie to you I did not think of some secret loophole strategy because there isn't one the reality is that you don't own your customers on it on s e s e does he gets the email addresses as he gets the communication and etc is very specific in their terms and policies that you cannot reach out to your customers unless it's directly regarding the sale that they have made with you so you can't message them and say, hey, I opened a new store, you can't send them a postcard that says, hey, I opened a new store, you can't send them an email, you can add them to your list, you just can't you want to go rogue? I'm not going to tell you not to do it, but it's going to get you in trouble, so especially if you have a lot of traffic, we do want to play by their rules. So here are the things that you can d'oh that are really important make sure that all of your social media links on es europe today as he doesn't let you send all of your social media profiles all those social media profiles that you just added your new store link to right we want to send people there. You could also add a link to your profile or your product listings as you feel comfortable. So I believe as of last check at these policy is that you can include a link to your outside website as long as you have products in your etc shop so as long as you keep something in there think right now I have twenty dollars hearings and there are going to sell them on my regular story and I have a link to my store so that is a way to kind of follow that policy, and then if you are generating a lot of sales, this is where we want to reach out to those customers, get those promotional materials printed and sent it to everyone who's buying from you on at sea to get them to go to your new store. This is actually a place where I might throw in a discount card, so again, I'm not a big fan of discounts for email incentive, but your customer buys something from you, and now you want to get him to go buy again from your new store. So that's a good place to say, hey, I've moved ten percent off if you buy from here can't get the time percent off if you buy in the store, because then what happens is if we can get them to buy in the new store, the new store is linked to our email form. Now we've got them on our customer list, so unfortunately, if you're not making a lot of sales on etc, you don't have that option, right? You can't say that, but chances are if you don't make a lot of sales on etc, you're just sending traffic to exceed that's not staying there anyway, so now we're going to send it to your new store and hopefully capture email. And then in the future, we're going to sell to them so I'm gonna give you guys an action step then I want to actually open up to questions because I know everyone's kind of got that like deer in the headlights because I know that traffic it's complicated so first here's our action steps so for those of you guys have purchased the course, you can hit pause, go in, update all of your social media profile links and then going to add, see and make sure that all of your social media profiles are up to date on your etc profile and bonus points for also changing that email signature and anywhere else you've gotta back link so that's your big action step but I'm gonna be honest with you guys, all right? It takes time to build up your traffic and you're following it's not a magic thing, but now you are in control so now all of that time and energy that you're spending trying to drive traffic, you get to capture their email issue gets control how they interact with you and so that's a really the key here, as I'm not saying that this will speed up the process but it's going to put you in the driver's seat of the process, your traffic questions and then we can also if you guys wanna ask any online, too whether you can put a note in there about signing up for your newsletter, I believe that's fine. Yes, well, in your profile, you can say, go here, sign up for my newsletter the challenge with that is that it's not going to be a clickable link, so it's not probably going to get you a lot of traction, but you can certainly try it and see if it gets you anything about the new shop. Obviously there's not going be testimonials or feedback. And I know trust online is a lot of people worry, is it possible? Is it a good idea? Like, maybe take some clothes from some of your feedback on etsy, or maybe have a link to it so you can see that you are legit and you, you know, you're you're, you know, so here's the thing. First of all, you need to get those people's permission to use their quote it's, not something that you can just pull automatically. Okay. Secondly, we don't want to send people back to your etc shop. Yeah, I'm your new place. This is where email capture is our secret weapon, because if you're landing in their in box and you're talking to them like a human and not a robot that also build that trust, I don't have any testimonials on my page I don't have ratings I don't have reviews I don't have any of that stuff people still buy from me because I'm sending them from my list and I'm getting them onto my list because I'm sending them there from social media so I'm building up these layers of trust the people who buy for me feel like they know me so doesn't matter that I don't have reviews or things like that because we have been even better we have a personal relationship yeah I think that's when you're really camera shot or you know I think like you're vivacious attractive people buy from you because they feel like they know you I am notoriously camera shy so people unless they see me in person won's attacks to my personality or my vibe viciousness so let me tell you something really funny so I love to stand up here and talk on camera and I could do this all day long I hate having my picture taken so if you go to my instagram profile which you can I'm economic on instagram you go to my instagram profile you will see that in thousands of pictures I think there are like three selfies there's a lot of pictures of my hand there is the pictures of my shoes there's pictures of my studio there's not pictures of me so what I do and what I think people do wrong on social media is they post images and then they try to make their copy very sales e so they post kind of made in the many many great images and then it's like go here by this what I do is I do the reverse I shoot very professional images for my social media platform, particularly for instagram, so I would say about half the pictures that you see are shot on a dslr usually on a model so my model or if it's just me and a ring it's like here's my hand click take a picture ended it and photoshopped posted so they're very professional images, but if you look at my comments, the things that I'm saying my captions, they are very conversational, so it's like on so tired today I need more caffeine or I can't think of any right now because I actually I'm really tired and we're going to be in but they're very conversational post and then occasionally and pepper those with oh, by the way, this new collection is launching go join the email list but so that's the way that I do that without actually showing myself is I keep my my captions very conversational, but then pair them with really great engaging images and beauty is that I never actually have to appear in my social media feed yeah, any question coming in from online yes, a mouth photo wanted to know she's here she have a first newsletter prepared before collecting names or wait until we have a certain amount of addresses. No, that is an excellent question, so when you're setting up your email provider, you do want to have at least one auto responders set up. You want that auto responder to go out immediately after people sign up and one of the best ways to see what these look like, it's just to sign up for other people's like you can go to my economic dot com right now and sign up for mine and you can see what my auto responder says like I just plug that right there, right? How this works you so all my auto responder is, is it? Thank you for joining my list, you know, like, I'm excited that you're here, I think it's an image it's, a free shipping code, which they don't even know they're going to get so it's a nice little bonus surprise if they want it on deny it's a resource that I did with a friend on finding your right necklace length so it's, just one email real quick, simple basically, the goal is thank you here's my shop if you want to check it out and then the other thing that I do also say in there is replied to my email if you ever have a question replied to my email I want people to know that they're talking to a human and not a computer or marketing department it's a great question anything else you question their rebranding and they reserve the names of on all they was they reserve that name they've rebranded too on all the major social profiles like instagram facebook twitter but now they're thinking should they just rename their current handles they don't lose the audience they've already built yeah a huge question I would absolutely just change your current handles you know let people know so when you change it you know like on instagram put everything that says we are now putting images were now whatever but absolutely keep them it's just going to be easier you don't lose that traffic you can make shift here's the other thing that people forget about instagram you can delete posts so if you have things in your instagram look how that feel off brand you can always go in and delete them and then just focus on building the brand for but you want to keep the audience you built you might get a few more unfollowed for awhile than you normally would but if you worked hard to build an audience you don't want a digit awesome. And then the same thing I would say goes for your mailing list. If you're doing any kind of rebranding, don't start from scratch. If you really are drastically changing, you want to send an e mails here list that says, hey, I'm doing something different. Come over here and you sign up for this if you want to know about this thing. But if you're just changing the name and you're kind of keeping the same products, keep your mailing lists. Let them know about the change, keeping much of your audience as you can, because you worked hard to earn them.

Absolutely loved this timeless course. Even though it looks like it was produced in 2016, the information is just as current and relevant today as it was back them. Megan is a great instructor ... easy to listen to; cuts straight to the important points; and breaks down the processes into bite size tasks so they don’t seem so overwhelming. Thank you Megan for motivating me to do what I’ve been putting off for the last 4 months. Sandy
