Navigating Career Crossroads And Network Building
You heard Maxie's story, that uncertainty, you heard about her peer network. They never were doing what they were doing six years earlier. This is why we have networks, moral support. You know, I'll babysit the kids, so that you can go do this or you know, you babysit my kids, so I can code your website. When we're thinking, oh my God, I'm really scared, the difference with having you know, a friend here in the front row doing this class today versus not makes a huge difference. The difference of having a new friend in the back row, who tells me she's been following me on LinkedIn makes a huge difference. And how do we confidently step into what it is we wanna achieve. That vulnerability when you want something and you're exposing yourself, whether it's 'cause you want to write a book or you just need a new job, there's a vulnerability there and this is why you need networks. I mentioned crowdfunding earlier. This is the case study that is in my book, it's Kathryn Finney, who had a ver...
y successful crowdfunding campaign for a documentary on the, let's just put it bluntly, the gross underfunding of black and minority women startup founders. And, Kathryn who as Maxie mentioned blogger, Kathryn has been a blogger, she has been an editor at Blog Her, she had a very successful blog and media company she sold, The Budget Fashionista, she's done a whole bunch of stuff for 15 years. Creating content, creating events, building this network, that when she came around to doing crowdfunding, her network looked at her and said thank you, we've been waiting to do something for you, thank you. And no, no stone was left unturned in her successful crowdfunding, ex-boyfriends were not safe for requests for money, but it was everybody, right? So when you're going to think about new projects, don't just think about, oh I need this, I want you to do that full 360 of that world possibility. But this is sort of like where we started, this course, this class today, we started with, alright, let's talk about what you think about networking. Let's talk now about where you think your networking today. And, yes, there's another lovely worksheet that comes with the course that has all sorts of questions on it. All sorts of questions. But just take a second, you know, and whether you kind of think about your calendar or you think about what is your inbox look like right now, maybe you're thinking about some of the things other than spending the day here with me and Creative Live, what you've, you know, signed up for. Maybe you're thinking about this weekend and some volunteer stuff. Think about how you're spending your time and who you're spending your time with. Anyone want to talk about what are some of the things when you think about where you're networking when I said, scan your calendar, think about your emails, anyone wanna share what comes to mind? You're like, oh God, here she goes, that Socratic method from law school, she's resorted to it again. (laughing) Well, here's what I typically find people do, they start focusing on some of the big stuff like being here or the big events. And, they forget about some of the mundane activities, right?

Wow! I have been connected to and following Kelly since I had the pleasure of seeing her speak live a year ago. When she posted she was doing a CreativeLive I cleared my calendar for the day and I couldn't be happier that I did! Kelly takes the 'blah blah blah' that we hear every day when it comes to career advice (whether seeking or building) and turns it into tangible, meaningful, and interactive opportunities to find what works for you, what gets responses, and teaches you how to level up. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I loved it so much after watching the live production, (and already reading the book, and listening to the audible) I bought the class to refer back to. Let's go!

It's a nice refresher about how networking works. How to build your dream network and how you can help people with your network. The instructor is engaging, and helps you being authentic while networking. It's a nice sidecourse about the businesspart of being a creative entrepreneur.
