Playback Menu
Play Back is of course gonna allow us to go back and play back the images that we have been shooting. And it's in blue, and so other features that you'll see in blue come into play in the Play Back mode. And so this does have a touch screen. And so you can use a lot of your normal finger gestures that you have for other smart devices to go back and forth. And so use those Swipes and Flicks and Magnifies. You can double tap to magnify, you can zoom in by stretching and pinching, and then moving around to see if that area is in focus. If you want to go to the next or the previous image, you can just turn the dial on the back of the camera. There is of course the garbage can in blue for erasing your images. It's gonna ask to confirm that. You can turn the dial on the top of the camera. Notice the magnifying glass in the thumbnail so that you can zoom in and check sharpness. And then you can do an Image Jump with the top dial. And what's going on there is that it allows you to jump 10 phot...
os forward or 10 photos back. So if you have like a whole vacation full of photos and you're trying to show somebody something from earlier on, you don't have to go picture by picture, you can jump 10 pictures at a time when you do that. And so play around with those features, especially that touch screen. The camera does use the touch screen, somewhat limited way, but it very very useful in the Play Back mode. If you want to change that Image jump option, you can go into the Play Back menu, and you can customize that to jump in different ways. Rather than 10 images, you can have it do it by one image, or a hundred images, or a variety of other options that we'll take a look at when we get into the menu section on the class. Remember, pressing that Info button doesn't hurt anything, so feel free to click that button and get more or less information about the image you shot. I love it that you don't have to keep track, you don't have to keep a notepad of what shutter speeds and apertures you kept. The camera keeps that all in the meta data. And if you want to see what you set on a particular photograph, just hit that information button once in the Play Back mode to take a look at that. You can hit the Q button and this is gonna get you into a special Play Back menu mode. And this is gonna allow you to go in and make some common changes that you might do if you're in the Play Back mode. Now all of these are things that are built into the regular menu system that we're gonna be talking about in the second half of the class here. But if you do want to go in and rate something real quickly, you can just hit that Q button to go in there and have access to all of those things. And so there's some very valuable features in here. If you're the type of person who prefers to work on your computer with Photoshop or Lightroom or some other program, you probably won't need any of this stuff because the computer is probably a better place to work on those images 'cause you have better programs and a much larger screen. But if you need to do it in the camera, it does have the capability of doing it. When you play movies back in here, you'll hit the Q button twice to get to the play back of that particular image. And then if you hit it a third time, you're gonna bring up the Movie Controls along the bottom of the screen. Now these can be touch controls or you can be using the dial over on the right hand side of the camera to go left, right, and hit set, and so forth on this. And so you'll have your common controls for going in and controlling your video, going to the first or the last frame. You can also edit your video. So if you want to cut out, you know, the first couple seconds when you had a shaky camera, before you got a good hold of the camera, or you want to cut off a little bit at the end, you can do that and have a edited video right in the camera, which is nice if you need to get that clip right, right in the camera you can do it. It's not the easiest controls to work with, but it can be done. If you want to control the volume, that's simply gonna be going up and down on the dial on the back of the camera. And look for those little hints down on the bottom of the screen. So when you are in the Play Back menu, when you're in the Play Back mode, there is kind of a secret menu that, in order to get to the Play Back menu. So we're gonna go through the Play Back menu in the second half of the class but just be aware that once you're in the Play Back mode, when you hit Menu, you're gonna get a whole new menu system than you saw normally in a normal shooting mode when you hit the menu. And so that Play Back tab is only available once you have hit Play to play back an image.

John did an outstanding job explaining every part of this camera. As a newbie, this course is exactly what I needed to understand this camera. Thank you, John. Now, I'm going back to watch through 1 more time!

John Greengo is probably the best instructor I have come across in my short photography journey. I learned a lot about the camera, something that would have been difficult without the help of the M5 course. Thank you.

This course is so well presented. Could not be more clear or better. It is extremely well done.
