Final Thoughts
So now that kind of concludes the world of distribution and we're going to go over some final thoughts, which is have the right mindset always have the right mindset there times when we're tired and times when we have a lot of energy just roll with it. This is a really long process, but it's like raising a child so just go with it say things out loud write things down, talk about it with people be accountable, they will help you hold you accountable. They'll remind you of your mission and where you want to go with your film because you said it out loud once at a dinner party or just in talking to them I actually did a little experiment based on a conversation I had with my son he was not treating me very nicely he'll probably hate me for saying this he was I think twelve or thirteen years old and I said you need to treat me with more respect and he said I'll try and I said no, you just need to do it he said, ok, I will try and I said, I need you to say that again and he said, I will tr...
y to treat you with more respect I said no, you need to say it again and you need to remove the word try and he said, I will treat you with respect and I said, thank you, and I realized when he said that I thought I'm going to try, I'm going to remove canton, try for my vocabulary, and I have to say, it is probably in the most positive things I've ever done in my life. I caught myself saying it all the time and now because I don't say I mean, on occasion it comes out, but because I don't say trier can't look, I'm not going to try and lose, wait, I'm not going to try and save money, I'm not going to try and go to this festival, I'm not trying to do anything anymore, I just do it, and you know what? Sometimes it doesn't work out because that's not where I'm supposed to be, and I don't say can't anymore because can't is a victim, so we can't do that because we're filmmakers, we can't do it because we don't have enough money, we can't do it because we didn't get that a list cat cast member it doesn't, it doesn't fly, it doesn't make sense, you can you're choosing not to you're choosing to believe that you can't. I can't get nordstrom to sign with us because that takes six months to a year for them to come aboard and spent a quarter of a million dollars to pay for four little screenings, it doesn't happen but you know what? It did and it can. And so if you believe that things can happen, they actually dio when you believe it and you believe it truly believe it. Other people believe it, and it actually happens. So I'm a huge fan of that giving up can't and try I highly recommend it even just for a week, and you start to notice how you how you say things, my grandmother, little chinese woman, I always said to me, everything you need you already have, which I actually did not buy that at all. It's, like, I need five hundred dollars to go to hawaii with my friends and I'm too young to work and like there's, no way I'm going to go. I don't get this wrong, you're wrong. Somehow I would look deep and I started looking and I actually, like sold my clarinet and then and I everything. I everything I needed I already had its just looking at it. I needed to raise money, wants to make payroll for indie flicks. I was sitting there thinking, holy cow, what am I going to do? I got to figure out a way to do this a couple years ago I looked at my advisory board, I called them up. I started to talk to them and like oh, you know what? I know this investor but I went there got an investor so everything you need you already have. You want a famous actor somehow affiliated with your project, you know, you don't, you know, now you don't need them in it. You need to be associated with you and somehow start putting it out there. I have a movie it's, about empowering women. Start talking about it, putting it out there. You can find that they actually come to you. So, um, and the last one, I said this to my kids all the time and anyone who's around me is that only you can write your story. So how you gonna write that ending? What's your distribution path? How you going to tell the story that you want the world to share? How you going to tell the story that you want bloggers to write about the story in the press release? What are the stories around your story? Share your journey. People love to hear the journey, the filmmakers journey it, it's, why they go to the festival to sit in the q and a to ask you questions about how and why you made your movie you're interesting, you should tell your story, and because your story tellers make it interesting, so the last thing that we'll leave it it which is kind of getting back to the beginning, is what is the goal of your movie? What do you want this path of this journey to be? You know, I I think it's, so important to have that blueprint, that architecture, that map, if you're going to go on a trip, you're not just going to get in the car and start driving. You're gonna have a destination. You might even have a few places. You want to stop along the way, and you will always have a journey that takes you off that path there gives you so much more than you bargained for. That is this journey that we're on making films, having that road, that plan and then starting to execute on it and being polite and kind and knowing you're going to do it and being passionate, telling those stories and incorporating everyone else in the process, and then you will you'll get that, so thank you.

Was this an instructional video, or a plug for a commercial enterprise. Light in detail, this series does offer a few gems for those searching for answers. It did put into perspective the odds of finding distribution in a marketplace crowded by competition where everyone is looking for ways to maximize a return on investment and offers alternatives to those wishing to tackle the job of online distribution themselves. Because "once a film is completed, the real work begins." it is important to know what these alternatives are. David W. King, Michigan Movie Media 2.0

This course is only an introduction to online distribution for films. It doesn't go deeper in any aspect nor gives you concrete steps depending on your film project. So if you've never heard or thought about distribution is a good place to start in a few hours, but if you are looking for a deeper analysis or information to reinforce the online distribution of your film, it isn't there in my opinion.
