Class Introduction
Hi, welcome to Creative Live. Today we're gonna learn about the fundamentals of Canva. Canva is a online design and layout tool. My name is Matt Stevenson, and I'm a Creative Director from Washington D.C. I've worked with Fortune 500 companies to build brand designs and work with UIUX for the past 15 years. You can find me just about anywhere online @DCMJS, or you can visit my website at DCMJS.COM. So today we're gonna be answering a very important question, that is, how to make design more accessible. How do we make everyone a kind of designer, and how can we also at the same time make designers better at what they do? We need something that enables all users. We need something that's also accessible anywhere, no matter what device you're on. We need a piece of software that has multiple skill levels, and we need something that can be a hub where lots of different things can be shared. We need something that finally, eliminates complexity, and keeps the things that counts. That's a ve...
ry tall order. Canva, is a product that solves just about all of that. By the end of this workshop, you'll be able to create your own top-tier designs in your own Canva account. You'll have complete knowledge of all of Canva's major elements, and you'll be able to work with and enhance, your own brands. Lets talk a little bit about what we're gonna learn today. We have three parts to this course. The first one is the Canva Basics, where we're going to learn about the philosophy of Canva. This is why you should be using Canva, when you shouldn't be using Canva, and what it's really, really good at. We're also gonna talk about how to setup your account, and we're gonna get into the interface of Canva; the different parts that allow us to use it properly. Finally, we're gonna do some element manipulation, where we're going to actually work with designs, and create your own designs using type and color, and images and graphics. In the next part of this course, we're going to go through some more account details. This is things like setting up your own team, making sure that everything about your account is what you need, and we're also going to go into a different kind of account called Canva for Work. This is the Premium Version of Canva that gets you access to all sorts of valuable features. We're gonna look at some interface tips. These are some things that will make you a better designer, and help you use this tool more efficiently, and then we're also gonna do some design tips. This is a really fun part where we'll talk about some fundamentals of design, and how Canva can make that process a lot quicker and help make your decisions about some really cool design pieces. Finally, we're going to learn how to save our files. Once we've designed it, we need to figure out how to get it to the places we need, and into our audiences hands. In the last part of this course, we're going to talk about something that I call The Messy Brand. This is the scattered portions of your brand, not just your logo and your colors, and fonts, but everything that makes up your brand, and how Canva can be that place that consolidates it. We're gonna look at some Advanced Canva techniques. These are some tricks that you may want to learn in order to help you be a more efficient designer, and then finally, we're gonna do some extra demos in this part, where we're gonna really dive in deep and create some things, and you can follow along.
