Create Your Celebration Plan
Once you've set your 12 month goal, once you've set your quarterly target, once you've created those project plans, is to know how the heck you're gonna celebrate when you get it all done. I like to celebrate, actually here, I've got a quote for that too. Celebrate everything. Me, right here, right now. (laughs) I think we should be celebrating everything. I think the act of entrepreneurship is something that should be celebrated. So whether you hit the goal, or you don't hit the goal, I think it's cause for celebration. As long as you're showing up, doing the work, making changes, you need to have a plan for celebrating. And I don't just mean like oh seeing, okay great I've got X many thousands of dollars in my bank account now, yay, that's awesome. No, no, no, no, no, that's not celebrating. Take $50 of that and spend it on something, you know? Or whatever it might be, you don't have to spend money to celebrate, I don't want you to think that, but maybe it means you take half of a da...
y off. Or maybe it means that you spend some of your frequent flyer miles and you go somewhere. Or maybe it means that you take yourself out to dinner, or that you enjoy some other thing that you just really, really love. It is worth it to know when you create your plan, what you're going to do to celebrate at the very end. So these are some of the things that I routinely use to celebrate. Fancy dinners, love me some food. Delicious IPAs is also another important part of any celebration plan. I like new clothes. I like new jewelry. I like vacations. I like time off. What do you like to celebrate with? How about you guys, what do you like to celebrate with? Start a new project, no I'm just kidding. (laughter) No, no, bad! I know, that can be so tempting. Or like, oh I'm gonna start that side hustle thing that I've been thinking about but I haven't had time to do. No, that also does not count as celebrating. There has to be a pause. Let's use that to define celebration, it is a pause. Whether that is marked by a delicious IPA, or a literal pause where you take some time off, there has to be a pause. Patrice, what do you do to celebrate? I love massages. Yeah, me too. Only I can't make that a celebration plan because it is part of my actual project plan. If I'm not getting the massages, the work is not getting done. (laughter) But that's a good one. Megan, what do you do to celebrate? Travel, vacation. Yeah, Leslie? I love toys. Toys, what kind of toys? Like I want a new iPhone. Yeah, me too. (laughter) I love toys too, I should've thought about that for list. I do technology a lot, yeah. Katrine, one more, what do you do to celebrate? I take time off and go for a walk. Yes, taking time off and going for a walk. Love that, yeah. So whatever it is for you that is your like, this is the thing, this is what I want, this is just for me, this isn't about your company, this isn't about your business, this isn't about your clients, this is about you. So every time you create a new quarterly plan, every time you create that new 12 month goal, I want you to know what you're going to do to celebrate when you get it done. That's part of the planning process. You guys promise to do that for me? Yep. Yeah, yeah? Do you think about how you're gonna celebrate yourself, versus if you have a project with a team, do you also plan some way to celebrate with everyone if there was a lot of people involved, or even just one other person? Yeah I would definitely do both. I would definitely do both, yes, but also make sure you're taking care of you. 'Cause I know you guys, and you don't. (laughter) And this is your biggest excuse to indulge. So celebration is so important to me that, as I mentioned before, over at CoCommercial we do it on a weekly basis. We have a weekly check-in where literally everyone in the community is asked what is one thing you're celebrating this week? What's one victory, big or small, that we can help cheer you on about? And then, what's one action that you're gonna take next week to get you closer to your goal? Because sometimes celebration can be just as simple as allowing other people to recognize you, too. It's so important. I know there's a couple of people in this group that are our regular check-ins here in the CoCommercial community. We need those opportunities to celebrate. Again, maybe find that business bestie, find that mastermind group that you can celebrate with on a weekly basis as well as every time you complete a plan. So I would love to know, as sort of like a final share as we start to wrap up here today, what is your celebration plan? When you complete this first quarterly plan, when you hit that 12 month goal, what are you going to do to celebrate? Let me know on Twitter, let me know on Instagram, tag me @taragentile, tag @creativelive 'cause they would love to know too. They'd love to help celebrate you as well. Then use the #standoutbiz. But tell us, what's your celebration plan when you complete that first quarterly plan that we did just about an hour ago, what are you going to do to celebrate? But now, I wanna check in with this room. What is the first action you're going to take after today's class? What's the first action toward your goal that you're gonna take after today's class? How about we start over here? I'm gonna make myself a weekly schedule like yours. (laughter) Excellent. 'Cause I have one, but I love the three parts of the day, I hadn't thought about it like that. Awesome, cool. What's the first action you're gonna take? I'm actually gonna make a list of all my resources. Yes! And really think about that as broadly as I can, 'cause I don't do that very well. Excellent. Melissa, what's the first action you're gonna take? I'm gonna call Patrice. (laughter) Okay, you're gonna call Patrice. Patrice will be waiting by the phone for you. (laughter) Katrine, what's the first action you're gonna take? I make a schedule. Make a schedule, great. Mm hmm. How about at large? There's a big group, I thought we were gonna be able to get everyone to weigh in here but that's not gonna happen. A couple of more, what's the first action you're gonna take after today? Buy a planner. Buy a planner? (laughter) Great. Sign up for the next class. Sign up for the next class (laughs). That's also mine. Oh right, yes, yes, excellent. And how confident are you guys about reaching your next goal? You feeling like, not only did you set a big goal, but you have a plan to reach it? I'd love to know from a few of you what goal did you think that you were coming in here to create a plan for, and how has your goal changed over the course of today? Megan? Well I didn't know what my goal was going to be, so I had a lot of different ones that I was trying to, I was in the weeds with, and so now I have one clear goal. Excellent, Patrice? I actually thought my goal would be tied to sales, and so redefining my growth style obviously helped me shift that tremendously. I didn't think my goal would revolve around process. Nice, I love it. Yeah, Katrine? I came in and my goal I thought would be teaching, and now it's creating a community. Awesome, and how confident are you that you're going to reach that goal? It's different, so I have to first look into that. Yeah. (laughter) but that's good, and you feel like you've got some systems now that you'll be able to look into that goal and figure out what your plan's going to be? Yeah because it was very surprising that I want to leverage the power of people. Mm hmm? Mm hmm. I love it, awesome. Well, as we have been talking about all day here, planning is never a once and done process. I hope that over the course of the last six and a half, seven hours, that you feel like you've gotten that plan started. But I know that unless you are able to pause (laughs) this video and really dig into it, you've got some more work to do. But the truth is that there is going to be even more work to do in the future because your plans are gonna change. On a quarterly basis, you might get started on a quarterly plan and realize that your annual goal is going to change as well. But planning is never once and done. It's not linear, it's not a checklist, it's something that happens regularly, it's something that needs to be revisited, it's something that needs to be given time and attention and purpose. My goal for you today was to have those tools so that you could get out of the weeds, so you could stop worrying about what to focus on, what to prioritize, what should come first, what should come second, what should come third, and give you the control, allow you to take control of your business so that you could really forge the path as the CEO of your business, as the Chief Executive, as the leader, and really own your leadership, so you could take that path straight to the mountaintop. I want each and every one of you to plan to revisit this process over and over again as you clear hurdles and achieve goals. I wish I could say, okay guys now we're done, (laughter) but that's not how this works, and I want you to head into this with your eyes wide open. Goal-setting and planning for a growing business is something you are going to need to come back to over and over again, because every hurdle you clear, every time you achieve a goal, you have more information that allows you to create better plans, and bigger goals for the next time.
