Shoot: Post Wedding
After yesterday's frenetic activity I mean it was pretty hectic we managed tio take a break for about an hour and a half afterwards and uh way had a little renegade mission going on we managed to convince meyer and sean teo pop into town for us to meet us up downtown and the four students and my fantastic assistant sean hated downtown to try and create some night time images off our bride and groom you know in the city trying to create some high impact images that have a fashion field to them so that we could introduce some really cool images into the into the book like I said before you could do this as a post waiting shoot or you could do it in the evening the whole shoot talk what forty five minutes we were shooting for like forty five minutes so I mean and they were six of us shooting so it didn't if you had to work that out say forty five minutes divide by six you know you're looking at seven, eight minutes off shooting time eat each in total so it doesn't take a super chunk out o...
f the evening so if they were getting married in the city in a hotel we could just pop downstairs and you're going to do some street photography and look for some really interesting areas to shoot thank you so much to sean from affinity photography here in seattle one of seattle's based waiting photographers on dh very proactive as well, because what happened was we decided to go out and do the shoot, and sean said to me, can I do you mind if I video this shooting like, sure, no problem, you know, so any came with us with this camera. Fantastic, low light, you know, with the d for on dh, he put in the effort and obviously will now be recognized for that, and he was proactive. He was up until three thirty this morning, editing what what you're going to see now, and this is the type of thing that I'm talking about. Guys, you need to work hard, you need to be proactive. The images that are that are being shown on this on this slide show are not mine, which, which I'm very happy about. In fact, you will see my image is a ll a few of them when I show you the reveal of maya and shawn's album, but the cool thing about this is that this is through my teaching. Shawn is a very capable photographer in his own right. However, in terms of what we were doing yesterday and last night, I helped him out with a few things, and I was so excited to see that he implemented what I thought, and god some fantastic images that I wish I'd shot so and you guys, you guys got some brilliant images as well I mean, you did stuff that you know, you thought you weren't capable off either, you know, on cynthia using different lenses and low light camera in terms of what you had put you out of your comfort zone and you know, if you wanted to in the future you're going to rent equipment that that can you elevate your brand and enable you to do things that you weren't previously able to do? So without further ado, here is a little video of what happened last night after dark after creative life wait e yes, sir, we've would you would you mind just coming up and taking a little about please come and take it way I know we don't have you, mike, but yeah, here we go. Sean and I met at w p p ay we're just sitting next to each other during the judging off some some photographs and we were just chatting about what we were seeing and, you know, instantly struck up a friendship, and I think meeting people with similar mind sets to you is obviously very encouraging, but it wouldn't have happened if we both won't open to sharing you know, we met two w p p I in vegas last year and you know I struck up a friendship kept in contact uh this year we were in vegas again for for w p p I'll I will be presenting their next year in march and be sure to see again they're so thank you so much for your friendship and thank you so much for your contribution to the pricing and that wasn't a great experience for you either hey was he was very reluctant tio give me the true pricing because in fact he was you know I'm a little depressed after the exercise as well so thank you so much on it it's been it's been a blast being with you here so okay, so now before we go any further talk to us about your experience last night so cynthia let's start with you I thought last night was probably my favorite part of this entire workshop just because I got to use will your camera so a million times better than me? Uh, yeah, I had a little problem because it was an icon and I'm cannon and it's also really everything's back to for yes, I didn't you have helped quite a bit with that, but it was just awesome being able to actually go out and take those really good photos yeah what's that for you okay uh I had a blast I live in the city you know that's something I could have done it any time and I have never thought about it are taking the initiative and you just showed me that truly you know like like all of us could group together we could rent you know we could pay for models we could write gear together and we could very easily go out and do exactly what we did last night and that um you know I have the capabilities for me a lot of it is just learning some extra like utilizing all the capabilities my camera has to offer read your manual that's a very important aspect ofthe understanding what your camera do and then what your camera candy but then obviously you know, checking out things online and educating yourself investing in yourself to educate yourself to pick up new techniques and new tips that you can find from other photographers so yeah congrats and I saw some of your images from license last night and they're beautiful I mean your band photography is also very very good too so thank you you learn to shoot on a v ahs well as manual obviously you learn to shoot on all of the different mark so yeah I'm gonna try and do that at least once a month now what god and shoot for yourself yeah like that get a good people and go teo brilliant you go cool yes I foresee errol and I never do that and I always was like a little wuss tanto goto then starting in the night because like you say I am very worry about the white balance is no perfect the courses were I have always posing so to me it's okay it's fashion yes why experiment ana you go later but but that was like a you keep referring in camera it's like you know what's amazing was like open eyes and judging from what going a group company afraid of getting there you know just just for me that's coming all the way just to hear you speak with such passion right now that's so fulfilling for me because it's like you're overflowing with passion all four of you you know you saw invigorated and passionate about what what what we've learned over the last couple of days and you were talking about colors and white balance and people get so hung up on the technical aspect of things that you lose sight of what do you want to do creatively and if you can hand over the technical aspect two other people who are doing the retouching and the color correcting you don't have to worry about that you know you shoot for yourself somebody else's going toe you're the specialist is going to worry about the color correcting and the retouching shooting raw it's gonna be a lot better for you for your post production so that you can at least do the color corrections better in post officiated as a j peg with bad white balance you're going, you're going to find it very, very difficult, but yeah, that passion is very cool and, you know, how long did it take us? Why haven't you done that before? It's easy, it's, not difficult stuff and what we were doing way shot with the led the men front of led and then the flashlight, you know, baby part was everywhere and yeah, but you know, incredible images right up by the by the red light you saw with shaun right up by the red lights, he's going all red on the one side and I mean, it was fantastic. And you, sir, what was your experience last night? I've done a few of these in the past, however, having a professional mentor you for forty five minutes and just point out a few things where you couldn't improve what awesome was awesome. So I asked anyone oh, I just let anyone know that they should have a mentor behind them at least maybe for a shooted too, just so that way they can look over their shoulder and say, you know, if you just go on this angle a little bit the shop is much better improved, and I saw that last night when you said, you know, get a little closer, get a little lower, you know, came this way. My image is of great. Thank you. Well, thank you for that. Feedback it. Yeah, I think somebody to have on objective opinion to bounce ideas off. I really think that opening yourself up to the internet to create your images, you know, that's not gonna do anybody any good is so money, so much negativity going out on dh jealousy and just general bad vibes that I really wouldn't put images out to crit online? I mean, I saw the other day they posted an image that were shot, like, you know, and I iconic, like, even an ansel adams or something like that and iconic image that was put up. Can you quit my work and they get it's rubbish. It was like it was like one of the most iconic shots off all the time, you know, and so really find somebody that you respect, find somebody that will is willing to share their knowledge with you and willing to, you know, you have the time to talk to you about perhaps areas that you can improve on.

Because of Brett's course, I can honestly say I'm a better photographer and a better business person. I've already put his knowledge to work! (Thanks for the wide angle overhead shot on the monopod!) Brett is honest (even when he's tricky!) and to the point, and his leadership in this field is very much by example. He works hard - and it's inspiring. His people skills are top notch. It was one of the "Best" wedding photography on CreativeLive. Brett was totally honest with his approach on capturing the whole wedding day. As a photographer, I loved Brett's philosophy on that it's a choice to run your photography/studio as a hotdog stand or a place of fine dinning. Brett has given me the confidence to go out and open a fine dinning studio and change how I photograph. I love what he said with no fear, "I am here to make money" when dealing with his clients.
