How to Deliver Your Design Proposal

So now it comes time to deliver the proposal. So here we go. Um, a sample emails. I'm always like freaking out about what I should write. So on. And I spent a lot of time thinking about it. So I wanted to share with you guys what I write, eh? So that you could copy and paste for yourself, but it's, not generic. You're going to customize this, right? So back to biscuit laboratories. Hello, steve it's. My pleasure to share a proposal for the redesign of this for the redesign of the biscuit laboratories, logo identity and website. I think southern cooking is woefully underrepresented in the bay area food scene and see a tremendous opportunity for a business with biscuit sandwiches is delicious. Is yours to be successful? I'm truly excited to be considered as a partner in this journey and look forward to your response. Name of the project. Right? What did you guys talk about? Reiterate the client goals? A big one for them. They want to be a every client wants to be the best right. The best...

, the most delicious, the most successful, the most widely used. But you don't just want to say the best you want to say something that is a little more personal to them. Right and then show genuine enthusiasm you really are excited this that you're embarking on something new it's optimistic right? I think it might even be I say show genuine enthusiasm but I think it's about showing optimism right um and then where they can see your work and relevant social so contact information always really important I don't think you can underestimate putting that everywhere you know it you wouldn't believe how many e mails you know, you probably see this in your own life if you want to contact a business and then you have to dig around for like, where is that um now what if you don't hear right it's like you did all this you're like, you're really drawn out like, oh my god, like I did all this like, I really think it's gonna work now you're so committed because you because you put all this time into making this thing and like, I'm starting to believe it, you know? And then you don't here and it's like, oh my god like, did they break up of the like, what's happening? So this is a simple email that you could say it just like, hey, what's going on right hope you had a nice weekend start with something personal um I'm following up on the proposal, do you have any questions like I want to continue this conversation with you on bin the last piece is something to get them thinking like showing that you're really committed so here I'm saying hey you know do you have like do you have any questions I'm still open to this conversation and by the way I had just gets in which is this weekend and like yours or better or you know something like that that's like you're you're still in this right don't take the fact that that your client doesn't follow with you immediately personally it's your job as a consultant and a freelancer to be on it and responsive and like always there and really professional and I think you've got to give your clients a little bit of leeway it's not appropriate for them to mistreat you or you know take advantage of you or anything like that but it's a busy were all busy you know we all have a lot of stuff going on and it's not a personal thing and I don't think that you should shrink away from from that moment of like oh my god I like set all this and I didn't hear from them and and you know maybe they don't want to hire me anymore just keep the conversation going like the project's yours and you're just checking in um so we talked about this conversational openness to dialogue genuine interest um and um you know where they can contact you how soon after yeah should you be feeling you um I would say like a week on dh I think once you've done that proposing it's like asking someone out it's like oh my god like I have about ten minutes ago I like you know that we can feel really excruciating but you know, depending on the kind of business that you are working with our pitching some of the move real fast in some of them a move really slow you know? So if you know that there are fast mover and they told you that you get back to you by the end of the week and you don't hear I think monday's absolutely find like keep the flow going but you know if if they're like us or more traditional business week is absolutely fine um and if your client's good they're going to let you know or like with it it with you you know they're going to let you know hey, I got your proposal and we're talking about it next week so they're going to set your expectations so you're not just like, you know, jumping into the to the abyss um so just quit communication guidelines like I said it followed immediately I think some of the people who I like to work with most are like right there you know when you send an email to someone you're in a need state right? I need help um and when they get back to you right away it's so awesome, isn't it? You're like, oh my god, if I was going to take you forever and like I have what I need be authentic show genuine interest give him something to think about right like, hey, I had biscuits too much is this weekend and yours are better um and if you don't hear back, follow up uh huh timeline that feels right to the relationship and that's going to be a little different depending on you know who your client is um so a few tips on how to make the whole process a little easier templates so the first time you do it is you're just going to make something right? You're going to make a word document or whatever that is, but I encourage you to make that into a template so it's a reusable document for you over time and I said, you know, don't use generic content, but something like your terms is not generic content that's your boiler plate that's going to be in every document that you that every proposal that you create right, you're going to reuse that you're going to decide it, how I want to be paid, what I want to own, what I don't want to own and and that's going to be something that you ve use um and you know, so make a microsoft word template or an illustrator temple in designed template or whatever it is that that you guys uh, work in on are comfortable in and the other thing is resource is so we talked about the edgy a we talked about the david harry, I hope I'm saying his name right um and the other thing is I just found out about this website called bid sketch and you can actually like it's like a contract generator, so you can say like, you know, I didn't go through the process, but but I looked at a lot of their materials and it seems really, really good they have small proposals and large proposals and and, you know, ask you a bunch of information and then they'll generate the document for you, um, I wouldn't do that until he read the terms and the idea agreement, I just you know, if you're a freelancer, I want you guys to really feel that your business owners and I want you, teo, to know your rights and take responsibility for your business. I think it's fine to use bit sketch, I actually think it's it's a really cool tool, but but I want you guys to know I want you guys tio to know that and have that knowledge and confidence and what you're doing a reminder that now that you're tuning into this, you've already purchased this course. You actually have that downloadable material. So you have that. Arianna, orland. I'm information, and they're about all this stuff that's going on at the temple, it's on the proposals themselves. So the last two tips are not not anything that's going to make your life easier, but their tips, which we talked about earlier, which is, have someone else read your proposal, if you can, or put it down and read it the next day, or something like that, but it's, good to get perspective on it. It's, great to get someone else's, but it's, just as good to get even your own, um, and check your spelling.

Thanks Arianna, for this course. As a creative businessman this is very useful. As a result of this course I send less proposals, I spend more time talking with my clients to know we are a good fit. There are some good tips how to write better proposals. Lot's of questions anwered in this course like 1. How to increase the chance of winning the proposalfase? 2. When to write/ when not to write a proposal? 3. How to build value? The Proposal is a part of creative business Creative Live can maken some more courses about.
