How to Use the Arcade Stitch Pattern
you're gonna start with your larger hook, the hook that I've recommended a seven millimeter. But this is one of those projects that you do need to take time to check your gauge. For if you were working on a scarf or a pillow or something, just flat be fine if you just if you just kind of winged it, but because you want this to fit you even though it's really drapey you want, you want to fit well, takes time. Crush a foreign swatch. Make sure that you're getting the same gauge because the thing is with Crow Shea is that gauge is highly subjective. You base your intention, kind of on how you grip the hook. Also very similar to how you shake someone's hand. If you're loosey goosey, you might be a loser. Co. Share. If you have a firm handshake, you might be a tighter crow Share. Also, your experience level may may denote that, so just go ahead. Take the time. It will take you like 10 minutes. Make us watch and make sure that you are get engaged. If you are not, go up or down one or two or ...
even three hook sizes, Whatever needs to happen, just get it done. And, um, you'll be on your way to get started. All right. So to Cochet the arcade stitch pattern, we're gonna be doing two things. So I want a first before I get Sorry. I want to show you something. So we've got the directions written out not only for the entire sweater pattern, but also for just this arcade stitch. But what we also have. And this is sort of how I like to work is we've got a diagram so that you can either read the words or you could read the diagram and you'll be able to work the stitch pattern. Or you could do a combination of both. So for this particular swatch, I'm gonna go ahead and for your swatch, you wanna work multiples of six plus one and then plus, you want one more on top of that for a chain stitch. So I'm going to be for this particular swatch and you do whatever you want for your own Swatch. But for mine, I'm going to be changing 20. So +123 for 56789 10. Okay, so now that I've created my chain. I'm ready to start with what will be row one of the stitch pattern. Now, what do you work? Well, I'll show you this later. You'll do an edging when we're actually gonna work this for Ah, garment. For the foundation of a garment, I prefer a SWAT. You don't need to worry about it. You can just dive right into how it's gonna how the s stitch pattern develops, Right? So we're going to single, crush a in the 1st and then we do a single crochet and the next one that shown by the exes. And you can see here that there's a key that explains what the symbols mean. Then we're gonna change three, and we're going to skip three stitches. So 123 and then we're going to single crush A in the next three stitches. Then we're going to skip three again. and then single Crush a in the next three. That's your repeat. So you just keep going all the way. 123 till you get to the last two stitches and then you're gonna work. The single CO shays and each of the last two stitches. All right, that's row one. Done. Then you're gonna turn your piece over for road to You're gonna chain one and you're gonna single Croce in the same space as your chain one were never accounting this chain ones as a stitch, so you can kind of just ignore them. They're just getting you to the height that you need for that single Cochet. Then we're going to skip that next single Cochet. We're gonna go ahead and we're gonna work five DC's or Double Crow Shay's in that chain three space. So 45 And if you need a refresher on double Cochet, you can check out Micro Shea Maker 101 course. All right, so then we're going to skip the next single Cochet, and we're gonna single crow Shay in the in the middle of the three from the rebel. Oh, Then we're going to skip the next one and we're gonna work our DC's again in the chain space. So one, five single Cochet in the center of the next single crush a grouping five in the last chain three space and then a single cook Rochet, You're gonna skip one single crush a and then you're gonna single crush A in the last stitch, and that is the end of row two. Now we're gonna go to row three. Row three is right here on the chart. This is what I'm following. But I also wanted to stop and take a pause and show you what it would look like here. So let's just pause for a moment just cause I want to make sure that you know how to follow the pattern in which ever way is easier for you. I like to use the chart, but maybe the chart doesn't mind for you, and you really want to use the text. So I want to talk about what this says in words, what we just did for the second row and how it would look if we weren't working from the chart. So this said Chain one actually would be this way. Chain one single crush A in the first stitch five D C. Five double Chris Shays In that chain three space we skip That's SK and again thes air abbreviations. Abbreviations are also in the bonus materials for for all of the crow, She all of the major Cochet abbreviations that you need just in your crush. A life that also comes as a downloadable. All right, So Skip, next single crash a single Cochet in the next single Cochet. I'm sorry. Single Cochet in the center of the three single Crush A group 55 D c. In the next chain three space. And then it says, Repeat from star. Which means you're gonna do everything that happens from this little ass tricks right here again until you get to your last two stitches and then you're going to skip a single Cochet, and you're gonna certain single Croce in the last stitch and in turn, I'm gonna go back to the chart now, But I really just wanted you to see the breakdown of how the copy reads versus just working on a chart Crow. She is one of those sort of unique arts where you can work solely based off of charts if you wanted to or solely based off of text if you want to. So when you have a both of them together, it's like the wonder twin powers of information. So I wanna make sure that You understand both of them. All right. So, back to row three, we're gonna chain one. I should also point out, too, that with a chart, you're going to start working when you read the chart one direction and then you flip the piece and you read it the next. And if you never If you kind of get stuck and you don't remember where you were supposed to start from, these little owes these little over Oh, those are the chain stitch. And you always would do a change. Such at the beginning of the road, depending on what's that you were doing after that? So, you know, that's the side that you need to read it from. So we're starting on row three. So we need to read from this from the left to Right. Okay, so we're in a chain one, which I believe I did. We're gonna single crush A in that same stitch, because again, we're not counting that chain one as anything. Then we're gonna change. Teoh, we're going to skip this first D. C this first double crush a and then we're gonna single crush a in each of the next three So that's Then we're going to Chain three. We're going to skip the next double Cochet, skip the next single Cochet and skip the next double Cochet. And really, it's easy to remember when you get going because it's really just wear. That little dip is where that little arch is. You want to cross over that you're building a little bridge to go over at. So we're skipping those, and then we're gonna work Our single Chris Shays, and the next three single crushes Skip the next double crush a the next single crush a the next double Cochet, single cachet in the next three. Then we're going to chain to just right here. We're going to single Crow Shea were skipping this double crush a single crush A in the last stitch. And that is the end of around three Row three. Rather, flip my piece over row for row, for we're gonna start immediately with D. C. So we need the height of that double Cochet. So we need to create that by chaining 3123 and then that little chain twos that we did it The road below is now gonna act is our little pocket to put two more double car shays All right, then we're going to skip one single crush A We're gonna go to the middle of the three bunch. We're gonna single Cochet there, and that's just gonna anchor our double crush a stitches. And then we're gonna work. Five double crows Jays in the next chain. Three space 1234 We need one more single Cochet in the center of that single crash, a trio that we have from the room below Double Crow Shays R five double crashes which create kind of a fan effect. Then we skip the next stitch and we're gonna single crush a in the center of the three single Cochet grouping. Then we're down to our chain twos again on the opposite end. So we want to even this out in a book end our swatch. So we're gonna put three Double Crow Shays at the end. We only put two at the opposite end, but that's because we had a chain three and we're also counting that as a double Cochet. So that would be the 3rd All right. And so that's finishes around four. So now we're gonna do the last row. I keep saying around, we're not working around its row. For now, we're gonna work for the last row of what? This stitch pattern ISS chain one single Cochet in that first stitch single Cochet in the next stitch chain three. You're gonna skip that little valley again. So Skip, the D C. The S C, the D. C. And we're going to go and work a single Cochet in each of the next three Double crow Shays actually skipped one. So let me go back and look at that again, skipping that one. And right here that's where I need my three single Chris Shays chain. Three single Cochet in each of the next three Double Chris Shays Chain three and we're bringing it on home by skipping a d, c, f, c and D. C. And then we're gonna make an SC or single cachet in the last two stitches. And that is the complete stitch pattern. So you're going to for the entire project that I'm about to show you how to make your gonna be using that. The Siris of those four rows the first row doesn't count. That was just in establishing row. So the repeat is you can see here there's a four row repeat that's gonna be rose two through five. That's going to be that's gonna create the fabric that you're gonna use for this entire sweater. So now we've got our foundation, and we're ready to jump on off and start working on the actual sweater, so let's get started.

Great video! Beautiful pattern. Wish the camera would zoom in more on her hands when doing the stitch work. I adore Vickie Howell. She is a great teacher. Cannot wait to see more of her videos in the future. I can't wait to make my cardigan!
