Shoot: Fair Skin, Female Model
Take a seat and face me straight forward. And then can you try loop light on her face? It's just hard to see what it is. Bring it around a little more to front. Little more, yeah! Right there is great! Okay! And then, meter. Meter, I think you put it-- I did something with it, here we go. (rattling) Thanks John. And we can shoot whatever you want. (footsteps) Okay. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to start with mean light. But she's got really nice skin, so, ya know, still look good. Didn't work? Sorry. Let me turn this all on. (beep) Alright, so take a look. You guys in the audience and everyone, you can all see her skin? Can you look directly out towards them? I mean, so, she has beautiful skin. It looks great. So when I'm photographing someone like her, I often know that I can go with harder light if I want to carve out cheekbones and jawline. K, look back at me. (beeping) (click) Ooh! Remember that white balance thing? (chuckling) (murmuring) In a previous section, I was shoot...
ing creatively in Tungsten. It is not cute, so hold on. I was just gonna let you know that. Yeah, no, thanks John! And then can we have it up on the screen? Shoot one more. (beeping) Alright, so I'm shooting with my white balance preset. Exactly! Okay, next shot. Not that one. (chuckling) Okay. Okay, so taking a look at her here, she has amazing skin. Until I took this photo, I didn't see that she had, like, a little texture right there. I would never see it. But because the light is off to the side and it's super hard, it emphasizes texture. So even when someone who has, you look at her and stunning skin, it's gonna show every texture.

The topic is too big to cover all the solutions in depth in such a short amount of time, but this seems like a great overview for beginners to understand the range of problems with making skin look good in photos. Lindsay does a great job of making her class topics easy to understand.

I just love Lindsay's work! It's so impressive; especially the sampling photos captured of the elderly gentleman. It brought all she taught throughout the video together seamlessly! I'm so going to watch this over and over again!
Danielle
Great primer on skin tones, lighting, and considerations for different types of skin. One of the few teachers that discusses dark skin tones!
