Class Introduction
(cheers and applause) Hi, guys. How is everyone? Good. So happy to be here. I'm really excited for everything you guys are gonna learn this week. We're talking today about how to produce a, ooh, sorry. A weekly podcast. This is a picture of the host of Food for Thought, which is a weekly podcast I produce. I wanna focus today on producing weekly podcasts, but also having fun while you do it because producing a weekly podcast can be a really fun experience. I think for audio producers who are just starting out, it's really valuable to do something weekly and the value of repetition and basically learning those skills week-by-week is amazing. These are the hosts of the show. We kind of just started the show as a passion project. You guys will be hearing more about it, but my hope for all of you guys would be that you can come up with a project and have as much fun doing it as I have on some of the weekly shows I produce. This workshop is for, it's for aspiring podcasters who have l...
ittle to no experience. It's for audio producers who are looking for new creative outlets, and it's for podcasters who want opportunities to work with new collaborators. I think that a weekly podcast is a great opportunity to do a passion project. It's a great time to work with maybe people, if you have artistic friends or people who are creatives who you haven't gotten a chance to collaborate with before, a weekly podcast is a really fun and cool way to do that, because the barrier to entry, as you guys know, podcasting is relatively low. You kind of can just buy a microphone, get editing software and make it happen. Throughout this course, you're gonna see a lot of references to Food for Thought, which I just mentioned, along with Akimbo, which is a podcast that I produce with Seth Godin. Those are kind of like my babies. Those are the projects I've had the most fun doing. They're both very different projects, but I think these are projects that you guys could potentially look to in order to have fun while making a podcast. This slide always, this is a picture of me and Seth Godin. We also, this summer, we taught a podcasting course, an online podcasting course. We had 400 students from all over the world and we taught it, it was every day for nine weeks. For most of those students, they were people who had never picked up a microphone, who had, some of them, actually this is weird. I don't know why they signed up. Some of them were like, I've never even listened to a podcast. I think they just like saw Seth blog about it and they were like, I wanna learn. These were people that were all age ranges. They were like, there were people who were high school students up until like 65, 70-year-old people who were tech-challenged honestly. By the end of nine weeks, they were able, every single student in that class, all 400 students had produced and published podcasts on iTunes. All of this to say, (stammering) I think by the end of this week, you guys are gonna be in such an amazing position to be doing something similar and to making your own show. This is a little look of what we're gonna cover today. We're gonna talk about how to develop an original idea for your podcast. We're talking about how to create a unique show structure and format, which to me is important in a weekly show, because it helps you as a producer to kind of have a set format. Have segments that you can fill in every week. How to create a sustainable work flow also really important with a weekly show. Figuring out how you can schedule things, assign tasks to either yourself or other team members and make sure that everything happens on time and get you, you can get that podcast out the door every week. We're gonna touch on how to book guests. Importantly to me as well, how to create a signature sound. How to make your podcast sound like you, how to make it not sound like all of the other podcasts out there.

I absolutely love this podcast. Alexandra is very refreshing to watch. She speaks a little fast but she is far from boring to listen too. She's short and to the point and very funny. I did a podcast before I watched her and regret not hearing her first, it would of saved me a lot of time. Anybody looking for a short class with A LOT of useful information...this is it!
