Creating Memorable Group Pictures
Group shots shots of your family or friends on location anywhere probably one of those common iphone images that you'll take whether you're on vacation just out with friends around the town so create good group shots is a skill in itself and there's a couple tips that I want to talk to you about that will help create really get it flattering images for the most part because all too often you take the group shot everybody wants to look at it and they want to know how they look in their emits, right? I mean that's like the toll typical scenario, so you want everybody to look good and there are some tricks for doing that we're indoors right now and I'm shooting with a very flat light now what is flat light basically the windows like right there so it just blast light right on their faces very flat the light is not coming from the side and cream shadows on either side of the face so flat light is you know, in professional world we kind of like looked down on flat light but for snapshots I ...
love flat light number one it puts pretty bright catch lights in their eyes you can see the kind of sparkle in their eyes but never to this and they don't even have to worry about this but like it totally gets rid of the wrinkles if you have that light all of a sudden like wrinkles don't show up anymore so I'm big on flat light because it's a big ship look younger so keep that in mind I think that's why a lot of people like flash too from the front but if you get just good natural life from a window like this, it works all right, so these are all my buddies here a crate of live and they have agreed to be in this group shot and you can tell they're just kind of sitting there like, ok, what do we do with julia? What do we dio okay, so we're going to go and just take a quick group shot of them I just sat him on this table because it was a fun need background with the door and the industrial table on, so I did ask them to get closer together, but they're not close enough so scooch closer no air between you yeah see and now they still look stiff and awkward. So what I took, what they do is number one I shoot from above so I'm going to hop on a little box you're anything will dio I mean a rock a log anywhere we're outside, you can get slightly up higher because shooting down on people actually makes them look thinner believe it or not, because what happens is is their face it ends up being closer to the camera, then their hips, so that makes their hips look really small. That makes sense, which slims them down and women, you know, we love that big chest, small hips, that's the goal, right? So I'm going to shoot from above and you can tell they're still kind everybody whenever you put a camera in front of nearly get this tense like, oh, we're in front of the exactly. So how you gonna shoot this? I'm going to tell them that there's two rules, this is great because it gets a good reaction every time and they don't know what I'm going tell him yet, so hopefully we'll get a decent reaction out of them. So I say ok, there's two rules guys, everybody's cheeks must be touching someone's cheek and your arm must be wrapped around someone on and I always get a good reaction. Ok, casey, arms around the girls. There you go. Follow the rules and sheiks together cheeks together and we take cute group shots. Ok, then I can come in closer shooting from above and get a good group shot that's very flattering to them and I'm in live mo to you guys can act crazy if you want to and live mode will record some video as well as that moment that I wanted to capture in between so getting people close together reducing the air between them and making them connect or touched by just touching cheeks wrapping arms around each other really helps created a dynamic image with a little bit more of a relationship in it rather than everybody just standing kind of stiff like this okay well what happens when you can't sit down and everybody has to stand up stand up ladies and gents okay so how I usually do this is I posed the girls so that they have a flattering look so when I want to do it I want you girls to turn into casey here nice and close again not a lot of air cases like now ladies I want your weight on the foot that's away from me there we go see they already there there are you know what to do but yeah and now I want you to bring your free foot into your wait for the put that to wait is on you and then casey stand nice and council like that perfect now girls I want you to just break it the waste and come towards me little bit dot too much much, much and closer into casey some mom and it's closer in case he closer closer closer hips cause I know it feels where there I go because he's like awesome. Well, this is a great now, megan, I want you there we go to drop that shoulder back. Perfect. I'm just kind of getting them in a good line so that the girls lose about ten pounds off their hips, right? This totally does it every time and they love it. Perfect and casey looks awesome. The king in charge of his there we go and we take a good group image and we're just taking snapshots here, so I'm not so worried too much about about composition, but you can start playing with things and doing fine composition and I love that keeps you. Go ahead and look up sky aereo so perfect creating fun negative space above using the door is kind of a composition technique combined that with their clothes it clothing that has pretty neutral tones, and he created a neat image with good flat light on their faces that have course reduces those wrinkles, which people love so much and a fun way to make good snapshots of groups because sometimes groups could be so challenging. But so long as you think about making them look good, shooting from above, doing lighting techniques that are very flattering and getting the nice and close and snugly together for that connection and you'll have a good group shot that everyone will look good and everyone want to print

Easy to understand, clear descriptions of iPhone capabilities, settings, and examples--and invitingly presented. More than just a description of the phone, etc. I feel excited and capable to take more and better pictures because I am more equipped to try new ideas rather than just point and shoot as usual. Lively and fun to watch! I watched the entire class!

Julia did a great job covering more than just the basics about iPhonography and the upgrade to 6s. I shoot professionally and was able to glean many great tips from her. Her suggestions on lighting, composition, etc are outstanding and well worth the time to watch this video. Thanks, Julia! I'll look for you on social media and begin following your work!
