Toe Decreases

All right, we are on our home stretch right now. We've done the cuff. We've done the heel. We've turned the heel. We've done the gusset. We've done the whole foot. And now we are on toe land. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna bring in a little color 'cause I like a little color. And we're gonna do, we're gonna create this toe. So all this involves is we're gonna be joining in another color again. But we're also going to be, need to start decreasing the stitches because your foot gets a little bit narrower where your toes, are on your body. All right, so we've got our foot. So this is a wee version of what it'll look like. And we're ready to start our toe. I'm gonna bring in the second color. And I'm going to join the yarn. Remember to make sure that you leave enough of a tail that you can weave it in later so it doesn't unravel. I usually leave, that usually work out to about six inches for me. But just eye it. It doesn't, it doesn't really matter. You just wanna make sure that you...

've got enough that you can take a tapestry needle to it and weave it in. All right. So, for needle one we are going to knit to the last three stitches. On needle one. And then we're gonna do decreases very much the same way that we did with the gusset. Knit two together. Knit one. But now, if you remember on the gusset we didn't do anything for needle two. We now needle two gets some action. Finally. Finally there's a little action on needle two. We're gonna knit one. And we're going to slip, slip, knit. So slip, slip, knit. So it's the opposite slanting decrease that you did on the previous needle. And then you're gonna work to the last two stitches, or excuse me the last three stitches. On that needle. And you're gonna do the opposite slanting decrease that you did at the beginning of the needle. So that would be a knit two together. Knit one. Now we're gonna move over to our third needle. We're gonna knit one. And then slip, slip, knit. And then knit to the end. All right, I'm actually gonna cut this extra yarn 'cause it's getting in my way. Just so I have a tail. Let's ditch that. So now we've finished with that round. And now we need to work around plain. So, knitting all stitches on all needles. So just as we did when we were working the gusset, you're gonna do one decrease round, one knitting round. Or, worked plainly around. And I'm actually gonna just kind of show you the whole toe. We're just gonna kind of hang out and knit together for a bit if you don't mind. It's just you and me. That was needle two. We're gonna go to needle three. So now we know that we are ready for our decreased round again. So that means that we are knitting to the last three stitches on this needle. Oops, there we go. And we are going to knit two together. Knit one. Move to needle two. Knit one. Slip, slip, knit. Knit to the last three stitches on this needle. Knit two together. Knit one. Move to the third needle. Knit one. Slip, slip, knit. Knit to the end. So we're gonna, the next round is gonna be worked just straight, so we're just knitting the stitches. So years and years ago, I, when I was hosting a TV show that I used to work on we had a guest on, she's actually a very well-known knitter, her name is Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, she's also known as the yarn harlot, and she came on and she taught what she called a sock recipe. And at the time, gosh this must have been 10 years ago maybe, at the time, I was actually relatively new to knitting myself. Like I was probably only like two, four years into it. Must have been longer than that. Anyway, she came on and she broke it down in such a manner that I'm kind of, I've kind of adopted that style in a way that I really found it to be a great base for all sock knitting. And really what that is is that if you can use this template, she had an actual like sock recipe template, which isn't what I have here, but, you can, if you keep the pattern that's in the bonus material handy, whenever you want to, you know, go out on your own and maybe design your own socks or if you're working on other socks and you just can't figure out the proportions or whatever, if you use just kind of the basic numbers to fill in it'll really help you with sort of any sock recipe. Like, you know from now on that you can, you know, to create the heel you just need to use half of the stitches. You know that you just need to create a square and then your heel is done. It's pretty freeing. It's a pretty freeing way. Because, you know, I get, all of the time I get posts and emails as I've said before wanting to know how to work sock, or how to make socks and people are so intimidated by it. And if you really just sort of like break it down bit by bit like we are today, it makes it so much easier. So, you can absolutely feel confident after you fix these socks, or finish these socks to call yourself a sock knitter. So I'm now on the decrease rounds again. So I'm going to go ahead and do these decreases. I'm on the end of needle two. So I'm going to be knitting those two together. Knit the stitch on needle three. I'm knitting one. Slip, slip, knit. Knit to end. So, for the pattern you're gonna keep doing this until I think for your sock you'll be doing it until you have 14 stitches left. You basically wanna just make sure that you have an even number. And you want the toe curve to have happened. So you can kind of see that we've got a little curvy toe action. I'm not gonna make you sit through me knitting an entire toe so I might be a couple rows off. But we kind of get the gist. And so, from here, we have completed an entire toe. And now we are ready to finish this baby. Let's move onto the next step.

VICKY is so awesome, and now Im ready to knit socks. Ive been wanting to for a long time, she is so great about encouraging us to jump in. She has a way of making what seems so complicated seem easy and do-able. I am actually super excited about trying.
