Pricing Guide & Client Questionnaire
So the pricing guide. I'm going to show you my pricing collections kind of towards the end of the class when we go over sales. But I do want to touch on this, because I shoot in a way to sell albums. How many people are going to print a million lifestyle photos for their walls? Not many, right? When people blow up big, massive, large portraits, you know, which I still shoot, you know, I still photograph clients for portrait work, because I do love it in the spring, you know, with daffodils, that kind of thing. Those are the ones they blow up really, really large. When my lifestyle clients tend to buy albums, because when I edit a lifestyle shoot, I tend to edit about 150 images, because I batch edit in Lightroom with my Lifestyle preset, which I'll show you guys tomorrow. And I'm able to edit a shoot in about an hour, okay, and maybe two hours, depending on if I want to play and you know, whatever. We all do that, right? Like, we'll try to make our galleries match as much as we can, bu...
t then we kinda want to play sometimes too, depending on the time. So I price to sell my digitals and I price to sell my albums. When you guys are doing your pricing, if you're doing lifestyle pricing, you need to make sure to set your digitals high enough to make a good profit, because most lifestyle clients want their digitals, because they're not doing a lifestyle shoot to take a handful of pictures. This is back to the story, right. We don't wanna lose our story. So when we have lifestyle clients, and I'm going to show you this on the website, how I portray lifestyle on my website, they want the story. And the best way to have a story is in an album, okay. So if you, you're gonna know your client, okay, on sales. Are they gonna be able to afford a really expensive album? Or, are they gonna take their digitals and make an album from, you know, from a lab that you have recommended to them? You want your clients to have their images, because you want them to have the story. You know, we're not doing this to have one picture on the wall. We're doing this, this is like a gift, right. Remember our why, right? Okay. So that's why I price to sell digitals in albums. It's a little bit different than when you're doing just a newborn pose session, where you're looking for a beautiful one-shot, okay. We're storytelling, okay. Does anybody have any questions on that, before I move on to the next, because it's a different topic? Not sure how deep into pricing we're going to go, but we did have a question about enforcing, tackling the 600 dollar minimum purchase after the session. Were you gonna talk about that? So yeah, we are gonna talk about pricing a little bit more, but we can touch on it really quickly. So, I have a 600 dollar minimum purchase requirement. And that can either go towards digital purchases, collections, or prints, or whatever you want. You guys need to set up a base on how you need to keep your, remember we talked about what you need to keep your company running? I have a really large studio in a very high traffic area on the ground level, so we have a lot of overheads. So we are priced specifically to keep our business afloat. You need to make sure that your time is paid for, that's the one, right. We still have our why, don't let it go. But you need to be able to sustain your business. So you need to kinda have a baseline where you want to be. Nobody ever just purchases the minimum, it just happens, you know. People ask me a lot about maternity. How do I deal with maternity sessions? Because you know, there's lifestyle maternity too, right. We approach maternity as add-on sessions to newborns. So if you book a newborn session, you can book a maternity add-on session, which is essentially a mini-session, but a discounted mini-session. So we have our newborn shoots, and so we have a whole bunch of add-ons. We have maternity add-on, birth add-on, so I'll count birth as an add-on. Those kid of things. And, it kind of, allows people to have multiple experiences with you, without having to purchase a full shoot. And, people really appreciate that. I'd say 90 percent of my maternity sessions are in the studio, just because moms want to wear the pretty dresses, it's just what's happening right now. I do have lifestyle maternity sessions as well. If they have siblings, we'll do some maternity lifestyle sessions, but a lot of them want them in the studio. Another thing with lifestyle, a lot of people will book a full-posed studio session. And then they'll add on a lifestyle mini-session. I only offer lifestyle add-ons for my newborn clients. You don't want to start traveling for lifestyle for mini-sessions, because it takes too much time to travel for not having it be a full shoot. When we do mini-sessions, we don't travel typically to people's homes to do a mini-session. That's kind of a perk of being a newborn client of mine. If you book a full studio session, a lot of people will book a full studio session and not even necessarily want the pose shots, but they want the light, because I have a really big, white studio, they want the light bright, ethereal look, or they just want to be out of their house for the majority of the session and we'll still do natural newborn stuff. I have a bed in there, and we'll do all that. But, then they also kind of want a handful of pictures in their new nursery. So, that's the perfect way to kind of start incorporating lifestyle newborn photography, is to start offering them as add-on sessions. So, a lot of you out there who are already established newborn photographers, if you want to start incorporating lifestyle, but are scared to leave the, where you're at right now, because you can't lose all your clients and I get that, I get it. You know, it happened to me. That's when you start asking, "hey, you want to do "an add-on, they're amazing? "We can go in your home, and your dog." And, the dog gets them every time. "You want your dog in the picture, we'll go to your house." Dog pictures are priceless. So, that's how to start, and that's a really good way to start pulling photos for your portfolio as well. And then what's going to happen, is people are going to be like, "oh, I kind of like that one "better than that one, "can we just do a lifestyle session?" So, now, it's funny, over the past year, Kenny and I are getting a lot of inquiries, "hey, can we actually do a full lifestyle session, "with an add-on handful of shoots in the studio?" I'm like, yes, because that's what I want. Are your add-on sessions, then, a separate sale session as well, or are they included in the newborn? They're included in the newborns. We put all the images together with the newborn. So, it's a discounted mini-session, but I've never had a client not purchase digitals and if that were to happen, I'd probably restructure it. It's like an add-on session fee? Yes. Client Questionnaire. We talked about this, asking questions to help plan your session and this is included in the bonus materials.

Oh my goodness!!! This was such a wonderful class. Not only is Emily a very gifted pro, she is the personable mentor that makes learning simple and the fun big sis you want to be around. She is a wealth of information and a total open book about it all. Being in her studio audience was so much fun, and the time flew by way too fast. I highly recommend this class not only to newbies trying to find their style and refine their technique, but also to seasoned pros looking to tweak their art with a creatively authentic perspective. As a newborn photographer with an established studio business model, I cannot wait to infuse what I have learned into my style and incorporate her business genius into my session and pricing structure. Thank you Emily Lucarz for sharing your creativity, knowledge and uplifting energy with us both in the class and behind the scenes! You are awesome!

Emily is amazing! I love how detailed she is and tells you how it is. It is nice she shares her personal journey and what she does - which is great! Love it and would highly recommend this course! I don't have a studio, and normally travel to clients home to do photoshoots - so all the tips here are more than helpful!
