Adjusting Images in LR Mobile
The other thing that notice about when you're here in the main image view so you have one image you can look at the history graham to see that on the top right hand corner is the history graham so the history graham is going to allow you to see the quality of the image that way you know whether or not it's adjustable and all those kind of things and to change that view, you're going to use two fingers and touch with two fingers see that so I can alter the view so now I can just look at the information, touch it with two fingers again just look at the history ram, touch it with two fingers again and just look at the photograph. So I like to keep the history ram open just so that I can always see what the quality of the information is. Do I have all of the stuff in the dress? That kind of stuff? Um if you look at the bottom of your page here, you've got different options here. The first one is a thumbnail view of everything, so I can kind of scroll through these images and find myself a ...
photo look at and now I can look at this photo then if I want to start adjusting the images that's what the next three icons for the first one is to do basic adjustments so for instance, if I want to change the color temperature, I just simply click on temperature and the color temperature wheel comes up, and I simply drag this way to go warm this way to go cool and there, and then I click on tent and I do the same thing find the right tent temperature, and then I could just kind of scroll through here and all of these air the basic adjustments inside of light room, so basically that what's in their basic adjustments panel over here in light room is right here inside of your mobile experience. So you click on saturation, so I wanted to be oversaturated under saturated let's just go to their on dh, add a little bit more clarity except you accept. All right, so now a couple things to noah's well, if I'm doing exposure two fingers does something different than one one just slides a slider, two fingers watch what happens if I click with two fingers now I can see where the hot spots are I can see where I'm over exposing the images based on so see back there, it's like, ok, you've totally blown out the background, and so that gives me more information than I have just from going like this going like this, I'm kind of adjusting based on what the photo looks like on my device and as we all know devices could be brighter, darker you could be out in the sun, you know? And so you really don't have good information on a mobile device about final adjustments, so that's, why we want the history ram open and that's why we want to use that two fingers when we're really working on something to make sure we haven't blown something out that gives us a lot more information as to what those actual tones look like, ok, all right, we can see up in the history and right now that I'm not blowing out any of the dress on dime not blowing out the background that little fence back there so it's not overly white it's true white, but if I go way up now, I know that's all blown out. Yeah, jared thisa question from peggy stroll do you have to worry about color calibration on the ipad or whatever device it is that you're using like we do focus on when we're using computers and some yeah, that's always a concern because if you don't have first off, I always I know exactly where on my little slider I like to keep my so whenever I'm adjusting, I'll actually go into the settings and look at the brightness panel, the little brightness slider and for me when I have compared an image that I've made in here and I'm looking at in here I'll take a print and look at the same print, so I'll send it off toe white house, custom color, which is where I print and then they will send me back a print and I'll look at him and I look at him on the screen, I look at him on my ipad, and then I'll figure out what what's the brightness level to make that print look like what's on my screen, and then once I've done that, I kind of memorize where is that spot? And for me, it's like about one fourth way down the slider on the brightness on my ipad for me is is equal to what I'm seeing on a print and so that's really important. As for color, these air pretty accurate on color, they're really quite good they're better than what would you'd see on a print? Because there there's more saturation and there's more contrast in it, but they're pretty accurate there. X ray is actually created a the ability to to put a spider on your ipad, and then you connect it to your computer and it will calibrate your ipad. However, not all software is then you don't utilizing that calibration yet, so hopefully we're getting to the point where you'll be able to calibrate these more excellently but they're pretty good as they are, but the beauty of it is we're not we're not intending this to be a final thing we're not we're gonna work on it we're going to just things and then when they come over to our computer that's when we'll say I approve so the approval process happens on the computer now if you're sharing if I'm just going to take this image and share it off to the world on twitter or whatever a tw that point this is what everybody's going to be viewing it on and so it's a perfect way to show people those images, you know, because it's this is this is the device they're on and if you're sending it to people assuming they're on an ipad and you're on an ipad we're all going to be the same except for the brightness slider is the only thing is going to be different and that's something that everybody just has to choose for themselves. All right, so um next little button down here so we all know howto then adjust its very simple just choose your adjustment oh and by the way, if you go to another image so let's just go to this image and we say, oh, I really like what I did on the last set of images then when you're in the adjustment area, just go to the previous button and click on previous and it will then you can say everything from the photo or just the tones and previous from the previous photo, I'm going to say everything so now it stole everything that I did on the last photo and put it on this photo so that's easy way to than duplicate your work so that you're not readjusting every single image and and my advice is always do that and then start from where that wass and start adjusting if it needs a little extra adjustment like it got brighter, darker ok, the other thing you can do is always hit reset, which is on the far right hand corner on dh below that below the reset button is that little circular arrow that means undo the last step so whatever you did last, you can undo with that. Ok, now we're going to go to the next button and the next button is your presets so we have presets here we have creative presets, color presets, black and white presets, et cetera. So if I click on the black and white presets, you can see all of the different options that I have. One of those is film one and that's what it looks like that looks pretty good if I don't like that one just click undo and try a different one uh let's try contrast fifty there you go now the beauty of this is that you can start here, and now I can go back and start reworking, you know, some of the, you know, contrast levels so it's just giving you a starting point from where to begin and then you're going to finish it out. All right? Um, and then, of course, you can always come back to your computer later and play with those images and really home, whatever it was your doing so you might you might consider this is an opportunity to kind of flipped through your images while you're on the road and say, ok, like this image, I like that image, so you're picking images that you like, and then maybe you'll going to say this one needs to be a black and white, this one needs to be a black and white you're kind of making some editorial decisions, and literally, while you're doing that, you're assistant could be at home seeing these changes come in and go, oh, he wants this going to be black and white and start working on it so there's a lot of there's, a lot of interesting uses for that. Okay, so notice right now above the hist a gram there's a little cloud here and it has a little plus thing, so I click on it and says, force sink so I want to force the sink, and so I'm going to tell it, force it up so now it's synchronizing the adjustments, so because it was waiting for me for me to kind of, you know, finish whatever it was I was doing, and I just told it, I'm finished. Go ahead and send these and so now if I go back to my computer and I click on let's, go to that little little angel shoot there and I'm going to scroll down and look and find the changes, and I don't remember which photo we were working on, but it's somewhere with the throne of the leaves area here and, uh oh it's, the two girls, where are you two girls? Yeah, that's when I made black and white looking, looking, working so it doesn't show up in black. There it is, there is there so that's the change that I made and now I can go in and do some further adjustments on it. Um but you'll notice that the flag is the same, the star of the same all the adjustments of the same and then I can go in and further tweak it, and if I tweak, it will send it back over here so that's constantly staying in touch with each other on a minute by minute basis. Yeah, can you have light room folks were asking on mobile on multiple devices. So right there, you have your ipad, your phone and your computer, and will it be sinking across all of this? Yes. In fact, I'm going to unplug, I'm gonna plug my phone in for us. I can here, and we're going to go to light room here, and when I open up light room and hear all that at my desk is now, they're, um, all of these are there. And if I go into the little angels, shoot there's, that black and white photo right there.

Outstanding course! I have been using Lightroom since the day it was introduced, and felt very confident comfortable using the app. That said, I was amazed at all the great, new stuff I learned about Lightroom Mobile in this short class. Jared is an excellent instructor who combines great material with his fun sense of humor to entertain and instruct.
