Reviewing the Book Module

So let's, go back through our panel here and see if there's anything that we've left out, which I don't think there is. We've got the book settings, we got the layout, we got the page here that we've talked about a lot. The guides guides were just do I want to show the guides or not? So whatever guides you want to show if you click on him, I'll show you where the edges are and I'll show you filler text. If you've added filler text to something just gives you your guides yourselves. We've already talked about that that's, the patting that we you know, if we want patting on the left or the right or all over that's, both in text areas and in photo areas. So no matter where you are that patting, it is helpful to shift things around and move them from right to left and up and down. You have your photo text in your filler tech are your page text that we've talked about. You have your type tool on. Do you have your background so that's the way all of that works. Once we have created a proof b...

ook, then let me show you what I go through and do with my proof book. Which is kind of like a design I'd like to design a book and approved book together because more fun for the client to look at so let me show you how now that I think we've got enough of a understanding of how the module works that I can show you how I'm using it just really quickly before we switch to that we had several people asking about whether you could do things like drop shadow shadows there are lines around the image als you again if you want if you want key lines yeah you can do key lines inside of the print module and then import them into the book if you want to give you a key line for some reason they left key line out of the book module I don't know why because key line could be very useful especially if you're printing white you know real white prince and you there's no way to divide the sky from that you want that right it's an unfortunate decision on their part I think that they should add it I just don't know why the habit drop shadow I think is actually an intelligent decision not to dio because it's kind of a trend it's out it's a trending out type of thing drop shadows we don't use them all that much anymore especially with flat design that's happening now so I think they were kind of ahead of the time in that that they were just kind of saying that's just kind of a dated thing on, so I don't think that they're ever going to add drop shadow and I don't think that they really need to um so don't look for drop shadow hopefully they will add key line at some point because I think that's useful thank you, linus, that just the best is like a like a one pixel black border I think those were very useful and I think that there still could be classy, but I just don't know why they haven't added that. So let me show you how I'm I'm using it then I always start with an auto design of some kind now for a proof book, it's going to be an odd design of four up because I think that's about the right size for people to see the images on look at him, I like the fact that it puts the image numbers under there it's very easy to create that out of design. But once the auto designers finished that's when I go into tweak now if I'm not doing a proof book, then I'm doing something like this and when I do something like this I auto design one picture per page and then I go in and fuss with one picture to see if it needs to be a little bigger than needs to be pushed off to the right to the left etcetera so I'm going to show you the process of playing with the one image per page and how I work with it. So the first thing that I do is I click on the page that I from approved book what I like to do is I like to show all the images but then I like to call one out and say this is the one you really should be looking at and so by doing that I'm educating a client to understand the best picture on the page and so I'll click on the page that I want to work with and then I'll click on the image that I want to work with so let's go to this one right here because this is a killer image I love this image so notice that when I click on a picture it automatically finds it down here blow in my in the film strip, which is beautiful because now what I can do is I could just go over here to the page areas so I always keep this page area accessible and say add a blank page so when I add a blank page it adds a blank page right to the right of that page and now I congrats that same image that I was just finding and drag it onto that blank page and now I've got a full page image at this point I get to decide what is it that I want to do with this image? So I'm going to go into the full frames and how you can see I've got the images here but this is the image I want them to really pay attention to what do I want to do with it? Do I want it to be full frame? I do if I right click it and full frame that's not gonna work see that it's too tight so that does not work so what instead I want to do is either I wanted I could drag it down to the bottom or up to the top and that would work I kind of like that design and so let's leave it I kind of like that design let's go with it on dh, then we're going to go back out to the grid here and we're going to look for another really interesting image, something that I really like remember I've seen all these images before, so I know which ones I really like just from memory, but if I want to I can kind of zoom in on the thumbnail so that they're a little bit bigger so that I can see him a little bit better and I'm just going to kind of scan through and look for I really like this image, so I'm going to click on that image right there it finds it for me and then I might add another blank page I'm going to drag that in and at this point I can then go over and choose a different type of style for this page so I click on this one and I can either come over here and click here tio see the entire list of stuff that I can do or do you see this little area right here that little button that button is also a drop down that gives me the same options so I click on that one and I say I want all one photo options and I want it to be this let's do a smaller square so I'm gonna do this one right here so see output a square around it now and it's shrunk it down so now I'm going to right click this and zoomed to fill and now I've got a really nice square image of her in that little cloak and then I'm going to keep scrolling down and look for something different this is a really cool like this guy was like making funky cool stuff out of fruit s o I click on that one and I'm gonna add a blank page and I'm going to grab this and dragging into it this one aiken dio zoomed to fill and I'm going to do something like that and then I once I've done that but I want this to be before the picture not after so I'm gonna grab if I grab onto the yellow part the frame so down here grab onto it and drag it up here it moves it into the center of that and that drops this one down to the next page and this is the new page ok um let's see what else I could do here oh, and then the other thing that you can do is if if you zoom back out on the thumbnail so you really see this and you're like ok, I like this but I want this whole spread to be beef before or after some other spread I can click on both of us if I shift click the two now it's spread and if I grabbed this spread it will drag the whole spread between spread so I can move it around to different spreads here and this is how you would organize your book now as a proof book you want all of your, um pay or all of your images to go in order but if you were doing this, you can also I know we're looking at a proof book but kind of think outside the box and realize that you can do this with any book as you're designing your spreads once you're done with them, shrink it down and look at the spreads together and start moving them around and see if you can tell the story differently than you're currently telling it, see if you can tell out of order see if you can tell two stories happening simultaneously and go back and forth between because, like, if I'm doing a, you know, the bride and the groom getting ready, you know, at the very beginning, the brides getting ready, the groom's getting ready and I'm going back and forth between the two or I have my assistant in one and I'm in the other and there happened simultaneously, and so if you want to design the book, do you want him to the bride to get ready and then the groom to get ready? Or do you want the bride, you know, putting on her lipstick and the groom, you know, combing his hair and then are maybe the bride's doing her hair on the groom's, combing his hair on the bride's, putting on the dress and the groom's tying his tie? And but that means you're going to rearrange, and so when you re arrange first, just go through and design the images the best they can on the pages and then once you've designed the image is the best you can on the pages, then take your spreads and start shifting them around to tell the story of the best way you can, and this is the best way to do it is to grab those pages and again, you grab a page, you can move the page itself or you can shift, click and drag the entire spread, or you can shift, click four pages and you can drag all four around a cz. Well, so just kind of move them based on what you see is you know, the story progressing. All right, but that's how I use the book module, I make mostly proof books out of it, but I make a lot of portfolio books out of it, and I also make books for vendors out of it. So if I have a particularly great wedding, I'll make a book for the vendor and on this it's just one picture per page, you know of the of the wedding itself so that you can see how it unfolded. It's like a little album, but it doesn't take very long to make its inexpensive to make aiken make it within fifteen minutes of the wedding being done and not fifteen minutes of the wedding finishing. But fifteen minutes of me being done with the wedding, I can make it have it shipped to me and then hand deliver to whoever the vendor was, and I was just put their logo right at the bottom so that's, how I'm using the book module, any questions? We have we do have more questions if we have let's go for I really rapid fire if you're done I'm done okay great. So most of the questions are about you showed us that you can do this in blurb but can you send these files to other companies? Absolutely so good books yeah if you want to send them off you khun created j peg and then send them off but here's the downside currently the downside currently to the book module is that when it sends out the j peg it sends out instead of a twelve by twelve it sends out a twelve by eleven point eight seven, which is not what a superb book is printing right so super book wants you to send you know, a twelve by twelve file but you're sending in the wrong file and so you would have to what I've done in the past when I had to do it and I've done it once is I made it with enough space around it and then I just went in cropped at all toe on exact square file but it's not ideal it's not the best way to do it. There are book makers out there that will crop to whatever size you're making, so though it's just a custom book and so if they're set up to do that, then you can absolutely send it to him because they will make you a book that has twelve by eleven pointing seven but most bookmakers are dialed into a very specific size, and so I wish that they had allowed for that, but they hadn't, and I don't know if they're going toe advance that or not, I hope they will keep asking for it, but you know, if you want that shout, everybody shout all at the same time and stomp your feet as loud as you can and maybe and they will we will. I agree with us that it is time for the book module to give us a custom paper sizes I think I think I can hear you hear them shout louder, we can't hear you shout louder, yeah within its and this is a great opportunity for people because we're all like minded people and we have a lot of users out here on creative lives, so if you want that, make sure your voice is heard and start sending in requests for light room to do this, that or the other thing and the more they hear those requests, the more they'll, you know, start to do the things that you want to do, so they just got to hear your voice, my voice alone doesn't do it, and so the more of you that want custom paper sizes from the book module the more likely our we are to get it so you're pretty strong voice, though. I mean, I'm using my bully pulpit. All right, well, fantastic there, that was a really great class. A lot of people did not know that they could do all this in my room and make book, so that was fantastic. Thank you very much, you know? And the thing is thing is that stories on ly get told if people see them and so the fact that you can do so much in light room to tell the story, to make a slide show, to make prints, to make books and get it out the door and then in in mobile, you khun, you know, create little web pages for people to see get the images out there because, that's, the best way for people to start hearing your stories is that they can't they can't hear your story if you don't hell, if you can't, if you don't put it in print form, if you don't put it in slideshow form, they've never going to see it and lighter makes it really easy to get it out the door, so get it out the door thank you, I love it.
