Capturing Profiles with the Kemper
Capturing and creating profiles here we go so we're going tio take this tone that we just made and we're going tio get an identical version of it by running too into the camper so I'm gonna talk about the signal for the camper this is the back of the camper here basically all the way there on the left we have the return input that is a xlr input and I basically running the microphone directly to that so the way that the signal change goes I'll become a picture in a second but it's going to go guitar into the camper out of the kemper with the direct output send that is going to go into our head out of the head into the cab out of cab and the microphones out of the microphones into the pre empt preempt into the camper so the last thing is we're going to monitor out of the camper so it's got a left and right out we're just gonna run the left because our guitars a model single so that's what we that's our signal flow we'll show you visual event again so it's the guitar the guitar goes into...
the camper camper goes directly into the d a w so we can monitor to the sound from the camper and the campers kind like a d I it's going to take in the direct guitar sound again putting that into our rapid fire and fire to speak cabinet speaker candidate mike so much fun to primp and again you could put a pretty happy new any cue or compressor anything else into the signal and will model this entire chain but we're just going to do microphone into our copy cramp carver cram into pro tools cool now we need to talk about the refining process before we really get into that we're gonna have to talk about how to actual profile it so let's go over here way pull this guitar so first of all this is ah I'm a profile I made for you guys to download a few side of this class s oh this is ahh dexter profile it's a fifty seven with the s e microphone on my orange cab and uh just a very basic theme that profile thie other profile that I'm going tio put online for you guys is this orange one so let's just go back to the deck story we'll just play with that all right? So now we're going to start profiling and making this happen so it's gonna get loud in here? Let's put this to the profiler mountain basically the first thing that you can see that we're in what is called a profiling assistant our microphone is running into pro tools currently and I'm going to unplug that and I'm gonna plug it directly into the camper so we can make this uh patch happened so we just do this so again I'm going into the return and put on the camper and going directly out of my microphone. Perhaps so now what we should be able to monitor when we go back to our approach was here we're going to monitoring what's coming out of a camper and we're going to compare this town tonight so so here's our number let's try on the obviously immediately overloading so let's suggest that and let's turn this down we put up a term plug it on here so we could make sure they were cool on this camper it has a light on the output that light goes from green to yellow to red I find that one it's just started to tap the yellow that's where it starts to be negative ten ish in pro tools and that's the optimum level that I would like oh my profile is too so I'm gonna play with this until we get it out at often level and then we'll kind of compare with the camper for a second then we'll start profile in this this is my dexter profile that I made now we're going to profile this so the next thing in the chain is we need tio click next here and the first thing that happens is that it gives us these in key settings that we can touch basically you khun essentially effect, you can affect the signal going through, and if you're having some discrepancies with the profiled tone that you have made, you can make some free adjustments to that I'll be completely honest, I've tried this, I've touched this a lot. I recommend not touching it until you have enough experience like really getting into it. The best results that I've got are not touching it and making sure that I use the refining process, which we'll get into in a second to make sure that my aunt responds and feels the same way as opposed to compensating for low and that is lost and or not profiled correctly by increasing low end and things like that sort. So I'm going to skip that step and we're going to press start profiling it's going to make these really, really, really weird sounds were basically about to hang out with aliens for the rest of the day is what it's going to feel like so on essentially, what it's going to do right now is it's going to spit on impulse file out through the cabinet through the amplifier and the microphones going to measure that impulse and it's going tio measure the difference, the end results, so they're going to send it in polson and it's going to come out differently and they're going to analyze the differences and that's how they make this town it's much more complicated and scientific than that. But that's, really the most basic way to explain exactly how this is working. So I'm gonna press start profiling, and we're going toe hang with the mannings per second.

I feel obligated to write a review due to the, quite frankly, ignorant review left by mr stemast. Sam does a great job giving you an intro lesson into making profiles with the Kemper. He goes through the unit fairly thoroughly but it is best to have at least a small understanding of the unit before you watch this to get the most out of it. I have had my kemper for about a month and there were a few things i had not picked up on that were made clear through this video. Now, the best part of the video is just getting to see how sam captures his guitar tones. It is a very educational watch when it comes to seeing how he simply mics up a cab to record. So even if you do not have a kemper i recommend this course due to its low cost. The only gripes i have are a few times Sam misunderstood the question being asked to him from the audience, but that is very negligible. This is a class taught by SAM PURRA, and that should be enough for you to be interested in it. It is how HE uses the unit and how HE captures his guitar sounds. If you are a fan of any of his work, obviously this is worth your money.
