Class Introduction
Hi there. Today we're gonna talk a little bit about demystifying a dark art. We really want this process of mixing the podcast it's something that doesn't feel intimidating. It can be so intimidating, you've got so many choices that you can make, you've got so many elements that you're trying to pull together in the service of a single goal to make a story so this is a class that should be useful for somebody who's interested in the world mixing podcasts if you want to get your feet wet a little bit, if you're a producer you wanna really kinda take your work to the next level and impress your engineer and add some mixing skills to your arsenal and if you've taken the post-reduction workflows course and want to know a little more this is a great place to kind of extend your knowledge. We're gonna explore some basic tools like EQ and compression that you can kind of pursue on your own a little bit. ow as opposed to just having it be a very utilitarian outlook which it can be in the podcast world where you're gonna make yourself its best. We're gonna look at big picture and really fine tuning kinda granular issues. We have our eyes on both sides of that when we're mixing. It really seems like boring stuff, levels, you know what level does this thing have to be at but they're important in the podcast landscape. It's kind of an undefined territory to some extent and you, as someone making something, can really have the chance to kind of shape how people hear things in the podcast world. Briefly about me, I'm a guy who wears audio on my sleeve. I'm a Sound Designer and Engineer at Reveal from the Center of Investigative Reporting and PRX. We do a weekly investigative radio show and podcast. A full hour every week come hell or high water, it's a challenge so I found that a lot of these practices that we'll look at in this class kind of help me keep my head above the water. I've taught at The New School for seven years, I've worked for a bunch of other people in the business so I've kind of developed an approach overtime that works for any client that I'm working with and also an adaptability that's helped me as I've kind of pursued a role in this business so I'm here to tell you you can find your place in this world if you're really paying attention to the details.

Great instructor, knowledgeable and very clear in delivery. No jargon, all terminology explained and demonstrated. One minor niggle is that the course is really like a chapter of a larger course and it's a little too thin on content to really "stand on its own". Overall, a good course, well delivered but a little light on content
