Selective Edit Intro
let's take a look at the editing modules in Light mobile this is where the meat potatoes of this whole process is going to happen. So there are two versions of light ra mobile. You need to be aware of a premium and a free and inside the premium you get selective edits which you absolutely need for this course in the free version you do not. So if you're a member of creative cloud you already have a access to the premium version. You just need to log in with your creative cloud account. So again I want to reiterate, we're working across the entire ecosystem of light room. So that means mobile desktop and Web. However in some of the other in the web for example you cannot access these selective edits exactly. So you'll have to do the work on mobile or on the desktop. Okay. I know it can be a little confusing but bear with me. So let's talk about these amazing selective edits. I think once you get into this it's going to change your whole point of view. So what they effectively are is mas...
king. This is masking in light room. So selective edits, you can use a brush to create a mask. You can use a radio selection like a gradient tool. If you will radio you can use a linear selection tool, same thing kind of gradient. And then the most amazing thing I think is if you shoot through light room capture depth capture you can get a depth mask which is actually light rooms way of trying to help mask it for you. All right. It's kind of like the portrait mode in an on an iphone. So to navigate this window that we need to talk about a few things for it. So for example on the desktop version this is what it looks like. It's not exactly the same as the mobile version. I'm going to spend most of my time discussing the mobile version. Okay, now the desktop happens to come in handy big time when you need to really tighten up a mask. Okay, so that's why you might want to use a stylist or awaken tablet for So keep that in mind. All right. So let's take a look at this window for for a minute. So when you go to the selective edit, what you can do is you can create a new selection by clicking the plus sign here and then you can pick from a brush, radial linear. Or if you shot it through depth capture depth mask here. Down below that, you'll see a brush eraser size, feather flow or delete selection. So you get all these options and we're gonna talk about that. So what does it mean? Well when you're in a selective edit, you can click on a pin which is basically your selection and you can edit it and it turns blue when you select it. So you know which one you're on because you're going to have multiples. Well you might and it's pretty basic cancel or confirm. Yes or no. You can also duplicate a brush or remove a brush and why would you want to do that? Well, if you're making headlights for example or lamps and you've made one and you know, it works perfectly for you. You can just press and long hold on that diamond and it will duplicate it for you and you can move it and make multiples. I'll show you how to do that as we go along. And some folks don't like that red overlay. I happen to like it because it lets me see what I can do what I'm asking out. You decide, but at least you can see where to turn it off and on. Okay.

She is relaxed, friendly and down to earth. She relates her techniques and processes in plain non techy talk and demonstrates it so you can follow along and learn. I have been a user of Photoshop and Lightroom Classic and now LR Mobile is my go to for most of my post processing work.
