Electronic View Finder

Time to move on to the back of the camera so we have our e vfr elektronik viewfinder in the camera and on the back of the camera that is known as thie lcd the liquid crystal display and the camera will automatically switch back and forth with its eye sensor now some people don't want to use the eye sensor and that's why we just saw on how to turn that off will see that again as we walk through the menu study and so the eye sensor can be very good in many cases we're holding the camera but one of the things you have to be careful of if you have the camera on a strap and you're carrying it over your shoulder the back of the camera is right next to your camera body which is going to be activating that eye sensor and might be keeping your camera turned on and draining the batteries and that's why you khun turn that switch into manually turning the viewfinder on and off in other cases it's very convenient when the cameras in your hands going back and forth from that I sense or to turn on an...

d off and so you kind of have to find out what system works best for your type of photography lots of options in there there's a little dial next to the viewfinder and this is for changing the focus of the viewfinder it's not the focusing of the camera it's not exposure compensation I know there's a plus and a minus there and that's for our diop ter adjustment so what you want to do is look through the viewfinder turn that dial so that you can clearly see the screen and all the information on that screen if you can then it is properly set and just give you a fair warning it does get bumped from time to time and it might move out of adjustment so if you're looking at there screening going lower my eyes getting horribly bad try adjusting the diop tter to see if it just got bumped a little bit out of position now there's a lot of different controls for controlling the specifics on how the e v f looks and so there's a whole custom menu of items that you can go in and 00:01:57.604 --> 00:02:01. specifically change on that there is also a whole 00:02:01.23 --> 00:02:04. group of menu items that you can change the lcd on 00:02:04.17 --> 00:02:07. the back of the camera what you see on there and how 00:02:07.74 --> 00:02:12. long it stays on and many of those aspects the one 00:02:12.29 --> 00:02:16. specific feature for turning the auto iv e f does 00:02:16.96 --> 00:02:20. your camera automatically switch from evey fto auto 00:02:20.32 --> 00:02:24. has one specific function in that built in e v f custom 00:02:24.26 --> 00:02:27. mode and so you can go in there and can control many 00:02:27.0 --> 00:02:29. of those things so let's take a look at a few of the 00:02:29.79 --> 00:02:32. things that you can go in and control in that custom 00:02:32.29 --> 00:02:32. menu 00:02:33.82 --> 00:02:36. one is the style of the viewfinder we've got style 00:02:36.98 --> 00:02:41. wood and style to style three now in style one I'm 00:02:41.49 --> 00:02:45. a big fan of the color blue as anyone is on sesame 00:02:45.0 --> 00:02:48. street but I don't like a lot of colors in the viewfinder 00:02:48.51 --> 00:02:51. because they could throw off the way you perceived 00:02:51.79 --> 00:02:54. different colors and so I think style too is preferable 00:02:54.8 --> 00:02:58. over style one between style too and style three I 00:02:58.5 --> 00:03:01. have a bit of an internal conflict style three I like 00:03:01.8 --> 00:03:04. cause it's the largest possible image for checking 00:03:04.78 --> 00:03:09. sharpness and resolution style to however doesn't 00:03:09.25 --> 00:03:12. have any information overlapping on the image and 00:03:12.71 --> 00:03:16. I really don't like clutter on my images in anyway 00:03:16.8 --> 00:03:20. and so my personal preference is style too but you 00:03:21.42 --> 00:03:23. are in control of your own camera so you get to the built in evey f style option right in your custom 00:03:48.27 --> 00:03:51. menu and so nice little way to get in there and choose 00:03:51.02 --> 00:03:53. which one of those you like 00:03:55.12 --> 00:03:56. one of the things that you can do and we'll talk more 00:03:56.96 --> 00:03:59. about this info button as we move along the way here 00:04:00.03 --> 00:04:02. is hitting the info button never hurts anything it just allows you to cycle through different groups of information so do you want to see your shutter speeds in apertures maybe there's a good chance of that I one of the things that you could get in here and customize is what things you see in the viewfinder some people like looking at a live hissed a gram that shows you the exposure level of what's going on in that particular image and was kind of neat about this is you can set up a couple of customers options to cycle through were you show either one two or three of the options over on the left so for instance, you could show the history graham and the highlight shadows at the same time or you could just choose highlight shadows as I said, folks, there is a lot of customizing that you could do in this camera there's also a level gauge which will tell you if you have your camera tilted left right forward or back so that you're getting the horizon line correct and as they say, you can combine these in many different ways because it'll go from basic info to custom one and custom to and then you can go in and customize one and two to show any one two or three of those options over on the left side of the screen now kind of the standard option here style to which I like has all the information below the screen it's outside of the image area and let's just run across the different things that you're likely to find in here a quick little battery check isto how good your batteries are if you have the vertical grip attached to the camera you'll see a little indicator on there we have a flash option that lets you know the flash is on and ready to be fired there's an a f confirmation this is kind of nice for folks like myself who like to turn the beep off on the camera your camera will beep when it's in focus and some people find that annoying or disturbing for their subjects and if you turn that off there's kind of a you'd like some sort of confirmation that the camera got focus and this is one of those additional ways to confirm focus we'll let you know which shooting mood you're in and if you've gone through in my set this is something we'll talk about when we get more into the menu settings where you can really customised the controls of the cameras and there are a number of different my sets that you can choose from and you can create these different kind of work spaces that you might have where you have a lot of parameters set up in one way or the other and this just reminds you which preset you have set auto exposure lock lets you know that you have a certain button that we haven't talked about on the back of the camera pressed we have our shutter speeds and apertures once again you can see them here in yellow which means that they can be immediately changed in this case by the dials on the back in the front of the camera then we'll see how far off are exposure compensation is in numbers and then we'll see it graphically in the light meter as well as we uncle left and right left for under exposure right for overexposure little indicators for one third exposure big marks for full stop indicators our highlight shadow option which are is ah a kind of a slight little way of controlling our shadows and highlight regions it's tweaking with the jpeg image does not impact a raw image lets us know if we have adjusted that normally we would not be would leave those zeroes next up we'll have our white balance setting and our s o setting will be talking about those very soon here and then over on the right hand side you'll either see how many shots you have remaining on that memory card or how much time you have remaining if you are in a video mode so lots of important information in there there's not a lot of control that you have over what goes in here and what's not in here so this is kind of the default settings that you're likely to see so I have just some overall questions that people have been asking that I'd like tio just a dress kind of a free for all but I think important for people who are watching alive right now so okay question from denise jensen who has the camera is it common to have this camera feel fairly warm after a short period of use have you had that happen I have it's a nice little hand warmers uh it depends on how much the viewfinder stays on but the camera does warm up it is a very small camera and there is a lot of electronics and so that does not seem out of the ordinary for me okay, great. Now we have someone watching who owns and olympus s z thirty m are you familiar with that one and wants to know if this class will have some crossover with that camera I am not familiar with that camera that sounds like it's one of their cameras that does not have interchangeable lenses on dh there's likely to be a fair number of differences however olympus keeps ah lot of the technology that they passed from one camera to the next and so as we go through the menu system it's more than likely you're like yeah I got that I got that I don't have that one but I got this one and this one and that one and the buttons were gonna be in a different place and things like that but I'm not familiar with it so I can't tell you how close or how far it is but they will be some differences and some similarities okay and then similarly dog alia says she owns the first omd and is hoping that some of the dials and workings are the same or close to the mark to can you tell us again how different the mark one and the mark to r well first off say that I do have a special class for the mark one okay which was not known as the mark when it's just the five and this is the mark two classes there was enough differences that I needed to make a whole class for it I think they their first camera was well it was a huge hit it was a big big hit and this is a nice refinement of that camera there's a lot of things that are similar they've moved in tweak just a lot of things the menu system is quite similar I would say eighty to eighty five percent the same and they've just maybe even ninety five percent of same they've only added in a few features on that song sounds like nineteen ninety five percent the same in the menus it's kind of the external controls they streamlined and moved and changed a lot of the dials on there a lot of the operation is very similar and so I know the last the m five was my first olympus camera in quite some time and it took me a while to learn that one and when I picked this one up I'm like oh yeah I know how this works now that works and okay they'd move this button over here and I added this and how did that and so it's a pretty quick transition between the two okay, one more while we're talking about this subject matter is from john deere who owns the am five is considering purchasing the mark two has reservations about the video capabilities on dh which he or she actually does john does more of would be interested in seeing more about our learning more about focus abilities during recording that focus peking touchscreen racking and also exposure changing when videoing do you know if they made any significant changes on the video functionality who I did not have the cameras at the same time I sold off the other one to buy the new one and I didn't have wasn't able to do a side by side test okay and so I'm not going to be able to address all of those questions I do know that I have a number of cameras dad I have chosen this camera to shoot a lot of videos with partly because the stabilization system is so good on this camera that it's also very small, which is really nice and just, you know, for a small little camera, if you are moving the camera around the stabilization system is phenomenal. It looks like it's on a steady cam, really quite nice, and I think the videos are very usable straight out of the camera, and so I have found it really quite nice in that regard preferable to much larger, more expensive cameras that I have as faras the technical footage. I don't get into a lot of high end editing in a video format. I'm much more interested in the still capabilities of it. I know they've made a number of changes in the recording modes that you can get out of the camera that the first one didn't have, and so you'll just have to take a look at that technical list to see if the new list better meets your needs than the old one. Uh, the older one is still pretty good, and so those those are a few thoughts that I have on the video monitors.
