So I get a ton of questions with regards to catalogs howto work with catalogues where our catalogs heading back up your catalogs all of those things so that's what we're gonna take a look at um oh boy so where to start? So I think what I want to start with is actually how do you upgrade a catalog because when you go from one version to the next you're always going to need to upgrade a catalog I know in the beginning I mentioned that I I try to use his few catalogs is possible now obviously that decision is going toe depend on your workflow but for me it's just too confusing to use more than one catalog I mean, obviously I have my demo catalogues so that if I go in here and I'm giving a demo and I take out all of my key words it doesn't affect all of my originals but I try not to have at the beginning I did I had a catalogue for like my window seat book and I had a catalogue for my motion blur images and I just found like it was two it was too confusing and if I was trying to put togeth...
er a portfolio website or something that I'd have to open up multiple catalogs and export I mean it just didn't work for me so I try to have his few catalogs as possible and when you upgrade light room one of the first things that always happens is it asked you if you want to upgrade the catalog so it is it is simple to do, but it can look a little bit tricky, so I would I'm going to do is I'm gonna go under the file menu here and I'm simply going to say, open a catalog and I'm going to find an old catalog. So I have this folder called merging multiple catalogs. I have a catalogue here. It's a copenhagen catalog hoping haagen catalog I believe this is the one that I'm going to upgrade so let's, take a look at this so yeah, it's, that it was created modified yesterday, that that makes me suspicious, but we're going to go ahead and do it anyway and see what happens. Yes, okay, so whenever you have one catalog open and you go and you try to open a secondary catalog, it always has to close the first catalog and open this so you will always get this dialogue box first, which is great, I'm gonna say yes, please re launch, then is going to ask me if I want to back up the catalog that's open, we're going talk more about that in a minute, so I'm just going to click skip, for now. And then I'm gonna hope that was a light room for catalog. Yes, it was. So that was a light room four catalog and it's now telling me that if I want to use this with, like room five, I need to upgrade it. So when we do this just so that you know, behind the scenes what's going on is we're not touching your old catalog. We will open a copy of it and convert that. So we're making a new catalog based on your old catalog, but you can always go back to your old catalog. I've never had to do it. I know other people might have had to do it, like on the alpha and beta team. But by the time we ship the product, you should never have to go back to your old catalog. So I'm gonna go ahead and say yes, please upgrade because I'm polite. And then we say, yes, please gives me better results when you're polite. All right. And so what is it time it's just upgraded. My catalog is simple. Is that so? Now I continue working in light room five. Now, the thing that I think is a little bit confusing as if we go back to the finder. And we go to all my demo files and we go to that merging multiple catalogs and we go to copenhagen and we go to the catalogue this is what I think can be confusing so let's just make this a little larger and I just want to actually make this a little bigger all right so what's going on in here well because the catalogs open I actually have two extra files that are open right now and that is this journal file and this lock file but what was really confusing especially when we were back in light room to in light room three was that it would always sequentially number your catalog so people were like wait I just upgraded light room three but my catalog has a dash two after it what does that mean? Is that the two point oh catalogs that they knew what's going on you can just kind of way have to do something right because you have one catalog and you upgrade it and so when you upgrade it we're not going to touch the old one so we have to do something to name it early so we add a sequence number so if the first time you ever use light room was light room for and you upgrade the catalog your new catalog will have a dash two if the first time you ever had a callous was like room three and you upgraded to four your ford auto catalog would have a dash two and when you upgrade it to five it's going to have to add a dash three if you skipped for you go right from your your original catalog to dash to so really it's just our way of saying what we've got to rename it to something, so we'll just do it sequentially so these numbers really have nothing to do with the version of the catalog, so when I would do at this point is I just want to show you how to rename a catalog so I'm gonna actually quit out of light room, so we'll quit it's like no, you can't all right, so I've quit out of light room, you notice those two files just went away automatically. Those were the ones that are temporary files, we only need them when it's open, but here's how you would rename it so you'll notice that this one's dash to so this is my old one, I don't actually need this anymore. As soon as I'm confident that my new catalog is working just fine, I could just throw this away so we could select it command elite thrown in the trash now this catalog is the new one, so if I want to rename it, I could go ahead and rename it to anything or I could just take off the dash two because it is a light room five catalog if I double click on it it will launch light room five but I don't want to spend the time to have to re create all of my previews so it's important that you not only name the catalog renamed the catalog but you also go in and you rename the previews dot lr data because the catalog is your database but separate from that are all those standard previews that you build or when you zoom in the one to one previews so just know that it's dash two and there's a space and you have to leave that space there so I'm just going to delete the dance too so that they're named exactly the same except that there's a space between the catalog and the previews so once I do that, everything is good to go on like I said, we could rename this to anything that we wanted to and you don't ever have to rename if you don't want to remain all right, okay, another little tip as faras catalogs go if you are one of those people who uses multiple catalogs, what you can do is when you launch light room there's actually a preference to set this or you can hold down the option here the old key and then click on the little icon there and it will actually bring up a dialog box and say, hey what catalogue would you like? And you could say, oh, I want to create a new catalog or no, I just want to create or I just want to use one of the catalogs that I've recently opened, so I'll go ahead and open that up and we'll go back to this catalog that I've been using uh over the last two days, so hopefully that clarifies how you upgrade a catalog and if you wanted tio how to go in and actually rename a catalog, a lot of people ask me, where is my hat along? How do I even find my catalog? So if you didn't pay attention to catalogues at all and you don't even know what a catalog was before this class probably most likely light room automatically created your first catalog and it saved in your pictures folder. So whether you're on macro windows, it doesn't matter it is in your pictures folder, so you could go find that there, but you could also come here the light room go to your catalog settings come over here to file no, not file handing come to general and it would actually tell you the location of your currently opened catalog so you didn't know where this lived on your hard drive you could say, could you please show me where that is? And sure enough there it's showing where that count along lives all right and then you could move that but don't forget what one I wouldn't move it while it's open so I would quit light room and move it but don't forget you also want to move all of the files right? So you want to move the lr cat you want to move the previews and this actually has another file which is our smart preview so those air new to light room five but those are the ones that we create in case we want to work with our files off line the's journal in the lock file those air those temporary files and if you have a ton of catalogs and they're all over the place and you just want to find them all without opening each one individually I would just do a search for don l r cat right? Just using the operating system right here just dot lr cat and that will show you all of your life from catalogs and you can go in tidy up all of your catalogs if you need to. All right, so now we'll switch over a little bit and we'll talk about how to or at least how I work when I go on location so what does that mean? It means that at home I have my big giant catalog my master catalog is at home, but when I travel I'm gonna take new photographs and I might work on those photos I might rape them I might make collections I might make virtual copies I might save a book project so if I do all this work while I'm on the road how do I manage that catalog when I come back home so that I don't have to repeat all of those steps because if I do things like I make create if I create collections if I create virtual copies if I create what else a saved book project or something and I come home and if I don't merge the catalogs I'm gonna lose that data if I just take the full the folder of images and just bring that over it's not the same is doing a database merge ok? So we're gonna walk through that so right now I'm going to pretend like I have now left home I have my laptop, this laptop I'm taking with me and so if we look at the finder and I go to my desktop close some of these other windows here we don't need those open. All right? So here I am on my desktop when I typically dio is I just create a new folder wherever I'm going so it says new photographs vegas and that's how I know these reigning photographs, they're not my demo photographs don't touch these photographs don't throw away these photographs they're my new photographs any of these and inside of there I put a folder and that's where I copy all of my new photographs and the reason that I am very specific about this is because I have one parent folder the new photographs folder and then I will actually end up with two sub folders in here my photos and my catalogue and by being nice and tidy this way what that's going to enable me to do is when I get home I will just need to drag this one folder I'll just need to copy this one folder and all of its contents to another location and that way there's no question of the path of the images light room when I copy this database onto a new computer mike main computer at home light rooms not going to say yeah you know it used to be your pictures we're gonna folder in the sub folder in a sub folder in some folder and now I can't find them no I don't know exactly where they are because there's a parent folder and thes to sub folders so let me just show you what that looks like for a second all right? So I'm in light room I'm on the road I decide I want a new catalog so I use file new catalog I go to that new photographs in vegas folder and I'm going to save this this is going to be my vegas catalog okay when I create that new catalog not only the will light room closed the other one and open this one but if we go back and we look on our hard drive on the desktop and my new photographs I've got the vegas catalog folder with the catalog in it so you see what I'm saying I've got my count along in my photos in the same parent folder ok? They're both child holders so when I move them around that path is going to be set all right so now I'm in light room and I decide I want to import we know that we can use the import button but we also know right we learned that we could go to vegas photos and I could just drag this on top of the light room icon and then it would bring up the import dialog box in this case I want to add them in place let's go ahead and add some information let's say that I want to go ahead and add a little bit of a boost because it's vegas right we want to add a little bit of contrast a little bit of color so we'll add our little boost their this is going to be a develop setting that I'm applying to every single image on import I could take it off later if I wanted to people asked me actually is it would be a good good place to just mention I also do have some other presets that we didn't really talk about let's see right here julie and I have camera calibration preset so I decide you know what I just photographed in vegas? I want things supersaturated I want to match as a starting point maybe the camera settings that are set to landscape because there are a lot punch here in color or maybe I want to see go to my lens correction and I want to say, oh, you know, this time I was using a wide angle lens, so let's definitely enable the the lens profile correction or maybe I was photographing with a wide angle lens and I'm like, oh, no, no, I want to disable the profile corrections if I've set that up is my default so we can set all sorts well, not all sorts you can pick one you think one pre set we're going to have whatever setting stored in it you want, so we'll do that will also under meta data will apply my copyright and in key words, we'll just type in loss they guests I wanted to do more, I could add the comma and then continue on all right, but I'm just going to import those we go through this, okay it's gonna ask me if I want to enable reverse geo coding that's fine I'm going to go ahead and enable that and yes, I am and that means that if I bring anything in here that has gps information and it will go ahead and do that location three additional location information okay, so I just want to do a few things will just go and I'll pick up my painter tool because remember using that the other day right? Go ahead and set that to ratings give me one star rating will come down here it looks rather depressing some of these images all right isn't it interesting to go back and look at the images that you photographed and that's why I'm doing those books at the very end because to me it's quite fascinating to see the relationship of the images that I take in the location that I'm in all right so let's go ahead and we'll just add some stars ok that's enough images to add stars to all right so what do I want to do? I wanted to rate some images we've added key words we've added copyright information to this I would like to create a collection so over here I'm going to create a collection and we'll just call it like best of vegas I just want to make sure that you guys understand what all I'm going to get when I do this database merge and I don't need to put it in a iong I don't need to put this in a collection set I'll just click create let's make it a target collection as well and it's included that one image but that way, if I put my painter tool back, I could just go up and say, ok let's add a few images to here in fact, you know what? Let's just filter based on attributes one star wow, ok, those must have already been starred because I don't ever give five stars so let's tap zero and get those out of there all right? So we'll select these and we'll just drag him into the best of vegas so it's not a smart collection is just a regular collection. In fact, that brings me to an important point. See the smart collection? This is a default collection that light room makes every time you create a new account along, so when I do may database merge I will then have smart collections, but inside the smart collection will say colored red and in colored red one five stars five started one so what I'm gonna do is understand delete these so just right mouse click and you can just delete your collections ok, so those are just the smart collections those were just the basic default collections that light romanced every catalog that way I won't have duplicates when I do my database merge okay, so I have a collection I have star ratings we should probably take one of these images will go to the collection I'll take this image because it's how about this one? Because it's super bright and we'll go over to the develop module and you know what? Let's create a virtual copy in the developed module so command and then the the thank you the apostrophe why why do I have is the same with exclamation mark an explanation those two words very different. All right, so I've got this I'm gonna tap the wiki this is on the you can see this is actually on the virtual copy there's my original there's the virtual copy. All right, what else do I need? Oh, let's say I want to take all of these images and we want to go over into the print module and we want to apply a template not that one that one works. We actually didn't talk about that howto ad kind of edges in the print module. So let me just show you that if we go up to page, you'll notice there's an identity plate but there's also yeah there's an identity plait. Well, I just clicked on page so it swapped it out but you can actually add if we go in here and say at it because ok, let me slow down water marks and identity plates are catalog specific like some of the only things that are catalog specific. So the reason that when I went in there it was saved as part of the template, but unfortunately, when I clicked on the page area said, uh, I don't know where that file is because I'm a new catalog, so if you need to go get that file again, please go get it. So I'm going to go ahead and say yes use a graphical identity plate, locate the file. This is going to be inside the image vault additional content he's, your identity plates these air print identity plates and I should have one that's an edge. All right, this edges a png file png files we learned earlier can have transparency. So this is a black edge on a white piece of paper, but the center of it is transparent, so I just use them are a key tool to select it and and photo shop. I had it on its own layer. I hit delete. So now I have a transparent center even though it looks dwight here this is transparency there's white out here outside the black but this is transparent, so when I say this as a png file, it makes a mask so that it retains the transparency so when I click ok you can see here see the transparency in the center of it so it's black and white with transparency and I've told it here to go ahead we can scale it up or scale it down in order to fit that so that's kind of a cool use of a png file in order to add some some kind of cool edges all right? So let's say I want to create this as a saved print so we'll go ahead and do this and this will be called we'll call this vegas with edges all right inside the collection best a vegas sure why not and will click create so now I have basically a print a saved print project I have a collection of virtual copies we have ratings we have key words and we have developed presets all of that so now I'm home it was a very quick trip ok I'm home so what do I d'oh I learned to spell because I obviously spell vegas wrong all right we write males click we say rename yes that was my way to show you that you can rename even your print projects sorry you guys it's really hard for me to type and talk at the same time in fact it's hard for me to talk into anything else all right so now we're going to pretend that I'm at home so what do I do at home? Well at home somehow I have to get these files to my other computer so I don't know how you guys do that you could do it over a network you could copy it to an external drive with the mac what you could do is you can actually shut down your laptop and then you plug it in whether it's, firewire, usb or whatever way you've got to attach your laptop to your desktop computer you restart the so the desktop is on the laptop is shut down, you attach them, you turn on the laptop and you tap the tea keith you know tap it, you hold it down he hold down the tiki what that does is it it uh it makes your laptop like a bootable drive so that it appears on your master computer as a little hard drive and then you can navigate just copy the files directly so that might save you some time because then instead of copying the files to an external drive, take any external files off that drive and putting them on the other drive anyway, you do it whatever you way you want, but I'm gonna pretend now that I'm at home and at home, I don't have this catalog open right? I need my master catalog so I'm going to go to my master my demo catalogue here and we're going to relaunch it so I'm at home and I'm ready to do my database merge I have copied the files over where if I copied the files over well, I've copied the whole folder than new photographs and let's put it in the right location, right? So I'm going to say, I want that to be in my demo files, I wanted to be in my image vault, and I want this to be in two thousand thirteen, so I'm copying the photos well, right now, I just moved him because they were already on the same machine, but we imagine I've just copied over not only the photos, but also the database, the catalog, right? And we can double check that because I can just go right here to las vegas in my new photos, there's the vegas catalog, there's the vegas photos, why am I putting them there? Because it's, easier like they're in the right place, like they're in the right place, they're in apparent folder, and so the catalog is going toe it can't lose track of the images because especially, I mean, it gets complicated when you're working with multiple external drives and especially if the drive name changes. In fact, there was a question about that yesterday about sometimes, like on windows every time you'll put in a new drive, it will take oh, now I'm dr d and then you had another one oh I'm dr e and then you take out dr d and you put the other one oh now I'm dr d you're so light rooms like wait I was looking on dr d and now there's a different driving so if that's your if that's the case what you want to do is you want to do a search I just searched for it last night I should look for exactly when I searched for um I searched for a signing a permanent drive letter that's what I did for andi I think I put into an external drive or something and then I just looked and I looked until I saw the adobe forums in fact that might still be finder safari okay permanency and it found that even though I didn't spell it right permanent dr name for a drive and light room and right here adobe community dr letters and then it says like how do you go ahead and rename that so you need to give it a permanent drive letter in that way it won't switch so hopefully that answered the question online. Okay coming backto light room I am in my my master catalog now, right and we'll go over here to all photographs and I decide I want to import but I'm not going to use the import button the import button is only going to import photographs what I need to import because I actually need to import from another catalog. If I just import the files, all I'm going to get. I might not even get anything except the originals. Because if on my laptop, I didn't save the changes to the files, the keywords, the star ratings, those air just sitting in that other database. So I need to do this database merge. So I'm gonna import from another catalog. I'm going to go find that catalog. Where is it? It's in my image ball two thousand thirteen new photographs from vegas. Here's, my catalog. Double click on it, it's. Going to bring up a window that says, hey, I found one hundred forty five photos. Do you want to just add those new photos without moving? Yes, I put them in the right spot. Just leave them there and then you just click import and the benefit, of course of doing it this way is we get not only the photographs, but you can see the star ratings. If I scoot down here, we should be able to see the one. Where is the one that I made? The virtual copy of here's. My virtual copy if we come down to my collection area right we had a collection what was it called best of vegas? So there's my collection we open that up vegas with edges so I can go ahead and hit this little button right here and that will take me over to the print module with my saved print collection so everything comes over if you do the database merge that way now at this point I might want to do a little bit of tidying up so in the library module go ahead and say can you show me again where that is in the in the library? You'll say you know what? I probably don't need all of these folders here I could probably just take the vegas folder go up one level to two thousand thirteen so they're all my photos if I wanted to rename that we can control, click and say rename so this could just be las vegas because once the databases merged I don't need that other database I don't need that other catalogue and I can move these around and aiken rename him and I could do anything I want with them because even if you rename your files this collection knows that you've renamed the files so just make sure that you do that after you do the database merge now I have this folder doesn't have anything in it it looks like it doesn't have anything in it so let's remove it let's remove that folder so right mouse click and remove it but let's go see if it actually did have something in it yes it did it had the vegas catalog in it so you should know if you've got folders that have like pdf files or word files or any file format that light room can't see if you remove that file from light room it will keep it if there's something in there that it's like you know there's something in the sub folder so I'm not going to throw in the trash even though in light room you couldn't see that there was a database a catalog in there but light room smart enough to go I'm not throwing that away or what if you had a word file in there a pdf file or all the notes you were taking me like and I'm going to remove it from the light room catalog but I'm not going to remove it from your hard drive because you can't see what you're removing but at this point I go oh yeah okay thanks that's got the catalog in it I don't need the catalog so command early and it's deleted so now I think that's a pretty efficient way to copy your files over import from account along make sure everything's there and then go ok well let's move those photos wherever I want we can rename it whatever I want and I'll go look in that folder and if there's something I don't need like my old catalog I could just throw that away. Yes moved the database and the photos before you emerged. Yes, I did what? You could have left the photos in place and moved them at the time of the merge. Was this I could I could and I could have moved them yet. So yes, where people sometimes get in trouble is they have their database in their photos on their laptop and then they move those files. Well, they move the database to the desktop and maybe they move the photos to their photos folder. Well, now, when they do, they import from catalog. Sometimes you can run into trouble because the catalog says, well, ok, the photos used to be in a folder right here with me and now I don't know where they are so that's why I keep it all nice and tidy and the same sub folders it was just easier for me to remember. And then I also know any time I have something on my desktop called new photos, I can't throw that away. Yeah, because that would be penicillin. All right, so do we have any questions online about that? Because that's a pretty tricky topic to wrap your head around, you've got a few different coming on too since objects actually in on database merging et cetera and duplicates except you want to take those now maybe they don't sound easy some of the camera guy and james carr is he's in dallas saying do you lose your history as a result of database? Yes, yes, you will lose your history thank you that s devote photo victor's saying I emerged to catalogs and there are duplicates how do I remove those two pickets? Do I think just the sink folder fix that another thing father didn't fix that? No, it won't. So yes, once you got yourself into that bind, it can be quite a bind, but there's no way to un merge them so I do not have a simple answer for that what we need and you know what there might be? There might be something online I would go under the file menu, I go to your plug in manager and I would go to plug in exchange and I would look and search to see if there's something that removes duplicates. So where would that be? What would that be under it wouldn't be maybe it's just under other infuse no different photo find similar files, okay, I've never used this before, but this might help him find all the ones that he has duplicates of I'm not really sure I use one by jeffrey friedel it has nothing to do with this, but it's it's a good one to know about it exports your entire tree so let's say I want to submit all of two thousand thirteen to the copyright office, so normally when you export in light room, if I've got two thousand thirteen, I can't get it to export all of the files and have them stay in their folders, but when I export and I go to the copyright office, I just want this folder structure to be the same thing just so that I know so that it's easy for me to see. So what I do is I use this other plug in and you can search and search for there's there's, lots of other plug ins out there, but I just really like a lot of jeffrey stuff. It will keep the tree here so the tree, the parent and child folders here, so it will actually, if I say, select all and I say export using his plug in, then it would go ahead and it would export the cactus into the cactus folder the chicago into the chicago folder, the las vegas on the las vegas folder, as opposed to just making one folder and just saying the here's all your pictures so it keeps the child parent hierarchies see how I diverted that to a different topic yeah do we have another easy one you don't know yeah I think this one should be pretty easy but eddie the teddy wants to know you recommend having the catalog file with your pictures or in a different folder storage device ok so that's a perfectly than those of the kind of questions like all right keep that one in mind that was a good one all right so let's move to another another collection of images right now and let's start talking about backing up your images and archiving your images so um there are a lot of photographers oh actually I don't have to do that thing where we could tap the ft there's a lot of photographers that have really simple set ups which is awesome right so I'm noticing more and more people you know they just have one computer they have their laptop everything on one computer so that means because there's lots of different kind of parts of light room right you have the light room application where is that that's going to be your applications folder you have your light room catalog by default it's in your pictures folder but we're not really sure about that because you can put it anywhere you want your photos you can put that anywhere you want so the quick answer there would be if you have one catalog and all of your photographs in one catalog you could but my recommendation is you just put your catalog on the fastest drive. Okay? We'll get more into that in just a second. Um there's the database there's the photographs there's the application there's all your presets, right? All your preset files and there's your preferences and some of these things like the system has to save in specific locations, so because you can use multiple databases in light room and they can access the same presets, those presets have to be in a specific location in the operating system, so we know where those are those are going to be in the same they're going to be on the same drive as your operating system. Your preference is there going to be there as well? Your third party plug ins that's going to depend most of them also get installed in that precepts folder. Where is that presets folder again? Julianna can't remember where that is easy to get to you goto light room you go to preferences, you go to your pre cents and you say please show me the light room presets folder it will open up the light room presets folder so this is where all your presets air saved and this is also where most third party plug ins get installed because I used multiple devices have multiple computers a lot of times just as in f y I all take this light room from my machine at home, my presets at home, I'll take that and I'll put it up in the cloud. You could put it up on dropbox wherever you place that the nice thing is that when I'm on the road and I go, I just created those four new presets at home. Uh, don't worry, because after I create my presets, I put him in the cloud. Now I'm on the road, I've got my laptop, I can download those presets and put him right in this folder if you are in the situation where you only have one computer, the only thing you have to do is back up the computer you're done terrific, pick whatever way you want back it up. Unfortunately, it is not always this easy and but you'd be surprised like how few people even back up their computer. We know we know these things will fail it's not if it's when right they will fail. So back it up at least once drives really are inexpensive when you're talking about like all of your photographs. Okay, so let's see how this gets a little bit more complicated, right? Let's, go to the next image. So what do we have here? Well, here I have my set up at home, so I've got my big girl computer right? So we'll just say this could be anything but basically this is a let's say it's a tower computer right? All right. And it's hooked up to my monitor great there's two internal drives on this computer and my little scenario internal drive one has my operating system on it. It's got all my applications install it's got my light room catalog. Why it's my fastest dr, I want to put my light room catalog on the fastest drive it's got my preferences? Yes, because my preferences have to be where my operating system is my pre sent they really for the most part, for most of us they're going to be in the same place in the operating system and my plug ins my third party plug ins are also going to be there. My second internal drive on this big machine has nothing on it. It's a scratch disk it's a really fast drive does light room care no it's? Not for light room it's for photo show photoshopped loves to have a lot of space, a lot of free space to do all of its math and it has to do a lot more math to a lot more pixels then light room does so I leave that free just for photo shop so I don't have to back up that drive I do have to back up my internal drive so that's what this little dotted line is here this is a backup of my internal drive awesome you know what that covers my application my light room count along my preference is my presets on my plans great fantastic you could make that a bootable drive if you want so that this drive goes down you can plug this one in boot from it how do you do that? You need software right? So you've got to just pick whatever software you're going to go with now in my case because these air on lee their small drives there like maybe one terabyte or two terabytes right? So I need to put my photos somewhere else so I bought an external bunch of drives now whatever you buy you know faster is always better this would be a raid drive I don't use it as a raid dr I use it as a bunch of disks. They're just four separate drives in one housing on there I put all of my photographs I also put my light room catalog back up what I thought we had that covered we have the light room catalogue here and it's being backed up down here you're right and that's great these light room backups the's air incremental backups in case the catalog gets corrupted I can go back in time maybe a week, maybe a day and say oh yeah I have another incremental backup. I could go back in time to the catalog state yesterday or the day before, so that maybe if I, if I did, you know, merge some databases together and went, oh, my gosh, I did the wrong thing. I could go back in time if I wanted to. All right? It also has all my supporting files, like, like what? Like my water marks and stuff like that on it. And then it gets backed up to a duplicate drive. And then, if you really want to know, this gets backed up to another duplicate drive, and that duplicate drive is stored offsite. Yeah, because they're my photos are like my children.

I started using LR about a year ago, but I hadn't yet set up my database and work flow process. This class was perfect and really helped me dive deeper into into the program. Julieanne knows her stuff, and she provides some excellent tips for both organization and editing. Love her teaching style, as well as her photography. Some of the more recent tools (such as the range mask) are not covered, but the content is still relevant and Julieanne's tips are fantastic. Highly recommend!

I follow Julieanne on FB and on her blog, and looked forward to this event. It did not disappoint, and in fact offered a few surprises. The exactitude of her content is always there. But the free-form, informal nature of this course kept it engaging over the many hours. I admire her style of speaking seamlessly to all skill and experience levels at once. Quite a trick -- I've had the good fortune to learn from the best, and I count Julieanne among them.

Julieanne Kost has an amazing way of sharing her knowledge on photoshop Lightroom, with humour and simplicity that keeps you wanting more. The 2 days that this workshop lasted could have seemed long but was in fact very, very short. This course gives you all the ropes to use this amazing program, with all its shortcuts and techniques that probably aren't in manuals with a few extras from photoshop which are just as amazing. She is so contagious that you want to pull an 'all-nighter' just to put in practice all the wonderfull things one has learned. Thank you very much Julieanne!!!
