Wireless Settings, Applications & Playback Menu
Okay, we are done with the two big menu settings and so now we're gonna go through a bunch of much shorter ones, much quicker to go through. Alright, there is a number of wireless settings on this camera where you can send images to your phone. You can select them either using the camera or on your phone in this particular case. You can send images to your computer. We're gonna be, by the way, folks, we're going through these very quickly 'cause we're just gonna get to the one where we control our cameras wirelessly with the camera. I'm gonna do that here in just a moment. You can send photos from your camera to your computer or your TV wirelessly if you want to and this will enable that setup process here. If you have one of the NFC devices, you can activate it here. One of the options is the Airplane Mode which shuts down the entire Wi-Fi and signal system on this. And so, if you said Wi-Fi, schmi-fi, I don't wanna use anything like that and I just wanna save battery power, I would t...
urn the Airplane Mode on. In fact, I would normally turn the Airplane Mode on unless you are using it on a regular basis because it's just gonna simply save power on the camera. There is an option for routers at home where you can basically press a button and automatically have photos sent from your camera to your home device. The WPS stands for, it's a Wi-Fi protected setup that you could have enabled in your home so that you automatically have images downloaded. We're not gonna go through all of these, folks, I'm sorry to say. And then, if you do have that sort of system, you can change some of the parameters about the access point where it looks for the Wi-Fi, the name of the device from the camera that your system is looking for, and there's a MAC Address in case you need that for registering this into your home system. It's a media access control, and then there is a service set identification password that you can reset if necessary, if you are using some of these home systems to automatically download images. And then you can, of course, reset the entire system to cancel it and clear out all the settings that you might have had in there. Alright, then we get to our application and there is the Application List. Now, unfortunately, we don't have time to go into this and there is a whole class in the Applications. You can buy apps and these are small, little programs that go onto your camera the same way apps would go onto your phone. And so, just as a for instance, this camera doesn't have time lapse built in. You can buy a time lapse program from Sony and unfortunately right now, Sony is not allowing aftermarket developers to develop programs to download. They have to come from Sony and some people gripe about them a little bit because they're features that you have to buy. Other cameras just include it. You're gonna have to spend $5 or $ and then download it from Sony's website and put it in here. Now, one of the ones that they give you for free is Smart Remote Enabled, so we're gonna be talking about using your phone to control your camera. So, these applications that are available, if you look up Play Memories Camera Apps, you can just do a search for Sony PMCA on the internet and you will eventually find the Sony store. And you do need to go to their store, if you wanna use one of these, you need to create an account, you will then need to download a little program that sits on your computer so that you can download this properly from their computer to your computer. You will then need to pay for it and order it and then connect your camera up using the USB connection. And when you do hook up to the USB connection is you'll need to have that USB LUN Settings at Single. You'll see this here in a little bit as we work our way through the menu system. And you can transfer that from the downloader and from their website onto your computer. Honestly, it's a little bit of a hassle, but they do offer you some pretty interesting apps that you're not gonna find on any other camera and so, I think the only way that this would be better is if they opened it up to the development world so that we could develop our own apps and people could come up with all sorts of creative ideas that we could download to our camera. I think this is a real future for our camera, it's just a little closed off, but if you know Sony and you know Betamax and you know their memory sticks, they are very proprietary about the way they do things. They like to keep things in house. Alright, so let's talk about, how do you hook your camera up to Wi-Fi? Let me walk you through the steps and then we'll do a little demo here in the class. So, there are things you need to do on your phone and there are things you need to do with your camera. The first thing you need to do with your phone is you need to download the Play Memories Mobile app from Sony. This is the program that you're gonna work with on your phone in order to get photos and take photos with the camera itself. So, on the camera, first step we need to do is we need to go to the Application List, which is kinda where we are in the menu, and we need to open the Smart Camera Remote, which we haven't done yet, but we will do in just a minute. Once that is done, then we're gonna go back to our phone, here we go, and there's a few things we need to do here. We need to make sure the Wi-Fi is turned on, we need to select the signal from our a6000 camera, and there's a couple of different ways to connect things up. One of the options is we can scan the QR code, and you'll see this here in a moment, and we can install any sort of profile into the camera to say that this is the device that we're using, and then we're gonna open the Play Memories. So, we're gonna hold the keynote here while I start working with my camera and my phone. So, let's follow these steps. Menu, working our way over to the Wi-Fi, which is, wait, where is it? One more, there we go. So, our Application list and our Smart Remote. I'll get that straightened up for you guys, okay. And so now we're gonna enable this and we're gonna need to get a little bit wider shot so we can show our phone in here. So, let's go ahead and turn the phone on and I currently have my Wi-Fi turned off, so I am going to turn my Wi-Fi on, come on. It's my camera turned on, there we go. Okay, so let's sort of see what Wi-Fi systems we have here are CreativeLive. All sorts of CreativeLive ones, they've got Wi-Fi all over the place, but look at this one down here, what does it say? It says 6300, bunch of letters, DIRECT, so we're gonna click on that one and so that becomes our Wi-Fi. So, now it's receiving a Wi-Fi and that's it. You can see the camera starting to work, so now it's time for me to go to my apps where I have all my Wi-Fi connections and this one down here at the bottom is the Sony one, and Sony's gonna turn on here. And things are working and look at this. So, when I hold my hand out in front of the camera, this is what I'm looking at here and so what I can do is I can come over here and I can see myself right here in camera and I can press and take a photo. And so, this is something where you can put the camera in a remote location and you can see what the camera's pointed at. And so, I'll hold the phone here and I'll point the camera over here to Kenna and our whole audience and I can shoot a photo with the camera in this different position. It's great for getting in the shot yourself. Now, what we can do at this point is we can play around with a few different parameters on the camera. We can go in and we can change the exposure and we can make it darker, we can make it lighter depending on where we have our camera. Get that back set a zero. Let's see, what else can we do? We can look at our photos, we can go back and forth. You can see other photos that we've taken with this. And if I want, then I can go back into my Photos, let's get back all the way out and into Photos right here and let's go look at our recent photos that we've taken. Here are some of our recent photos and so here's the photo that I just took. It's on my phone and this is where I can now upload it, if I want, to Facebook, Twitter, any of the other sites that I might wanna go to. And so, it's very easy to pull images off our phone. We can also use this to go search through our phone's pictures and pick out any photos that we want and just get them on our camera. And so, that's just some of the basics, we could spend hours probably playing around with this. And so, I just wanted to get you through the basic setup process of getting your phone on there. Now, the first time you do this is a little bit different than subsequent times, there's a little bit more checking. There's also an option for scanning a QR code that you might get on the camera. So, there are a few different ways that you can get your camera setup to do the wireless, but it's a nice little option when you want to email a high-quality photo, much higher than you phone can take, doing it from the camera. So, when you are in the Wi-Fi mode, something to be aware of is that when you hit the Menu button on your camera, there is gonna be a limited menu in the camera. So, there's only so many changes that you're gonna make before you exit the application and so, one of the options is exiting the application so that you have access to the rest of the menu because once the camera starts taking control over your camera, there's just a whole bunch of things the camera can't do on its own, and so, just realize that those are our five pages. The menu has been simplified greatly. And so, all of this is embedded in the Applications part and the Smart Remote Embedded. There's also a little Introduction tab which really doesn't have much information in there and something you're not likely to use very often.

This was so much better than having to read a manual that often times is not helpful in terms of pointing out tips on when would be the best time times to use a particular function. Love the graphics, the recommendations provided for both new and advanced users and mostly I love the fact that I can go back and watch different segments as I get more use to shooting with this camera. Great Course and I'm really glad I bought it! Thanks John!
