To do a new one here just call this we'll create that I'll save that just in case then we got this panel right here so let's say you know let's say you just to make it easy let's make this the product shot right so let's say it's some kind of like detergent you know when you want you know are you going to do some kind of up angle on it so let's see it's this pg layer will make this like the call this table on this like box will do you think even reduced a lot and made a little bit impressive box yeah like you what the product to stand out and feel like it's magical you're looking up at it because it's super impressive you probably have like in this case you might have a logo from the client so let's say let's say he had here I'll do this thiss should be this will be like a good example of fly come let's see I'll just make a new layer and say like this is the logo that we imported you know and I'm just going to call it logan well imagine that that's a beautiful little girl like I have t...

o make sure I take that logo and put it on the put it on here well well then you can select it me khun start muhsin with it and twisting it and getting it you know so it feels like it's you get lost around with it so let's say that's that's the logo and then you've got to make it read against the box or whatever so um basically you know, use a lot more color and things in the er in the presentation style of board and he do it in the er you know what I may do that over again with the line toe make this more beautiful um even this probably don't have the time to do a super fancy presentation board the basically the idea is like you're doing practical boards you're mostly going for the storytelling you're going for clarity when you're doing a presentation board you're mostly going for you know the sizzle instead of the steak is they say you're just trying to get them and news that excited so you do weigh less panels but you make him fancier you know you you put more detail you put more color and stuff in there and maybe you put some shading has lost its um possess you know come home get a lot of hope in there probably had old boss and you always go just doesn't have that was that was the same guy you don't just uh keep it simple so you know, maybe you're going and making sure you know you got hopes put that underneath there you know, darker shades er doctor she did thing on this side you know sometimes with the hero stuff like indicate like you know you might not have the actual like, you know, sometimes there's information on the side but you don't do like you do like a kind of dumb down version because nobody likes to see all that information maybe there's a product like this what do you think this is christy what should the speaker's detergent maybe it's cereal right? So make it cereal so now cereal they love tio there's always milk splashing around right milks always coming in and splashing around they love that cereal makes good on syria yeah it's like never the way that milk is practically used it's like nobody's that messy but they don't like just poor it's like it's like the greatest you know, like juice like a glass vase of milk yeah, you know, like a report in the glass pitcher and then reported on my cereal you have your cereal stuff here? Um I'm realizing I'm not going to be able to make this super beautiful because it is not enough time in the class and it's probably just going to be boring to watch me you're all a super fancy thing, but basically I guess what I'm getting what I'm getting is this like it's just you just spend way more time making it beautiful when you're doing a presentation thing then when you're doing like practical storyboard um do something like this that make the ground and then we'll make a it's making me hungry back back there you go. Thanks trying to make people hungry thiss so maybe there's like a catalyst serial might be on the day chairman today yeah, after like, organic isn't it that's gonna be you also maybe use your paint behind here too starts describing served a magical sunbursts your stuff here wait even another let europe's first these numbers he's earned it that's beautiful cereal you want them to eat? You know, this is like I guess it's like you're spending more time making stuff fancy doing presentation stuff and you are working through the story actually, a lot of commercial boards you get there kind of unusable as an actual practical board you can't like actually make make a story happen from it you just, uh it's just like a sales tool for the execs or whoever toe sign off on the object and they usually want just it to look beautiful it's more important that it looks beautiful then it be practical. So there you go and then maybe have something that says, uh, you know, you're important right with that brush is really thick back to what it wass backed like brush one and then it's like new and it's like important word's out cereal then legal fine print because they always have that at the bottom, right? You love it and then maybe if you're getting super fancy, you bust something out like so, like we showed before it's people that air east it and then maybe you do something where ugo you get the banker points in a weird spot, but you know what? Let's have a do something weird then see, where is that? I think the point is this thank you for their radio that and then when you play it new new new it looks like with this presentation presentable, you know, I'd presentation it you'd make this even more fancy, actually that's probably where you dig into photo shop and stuff yeah, you know it's, probably more practical to even maybe work out the board in this and then you you spin it out in the photo show, you might give that to your artist to be like here, but go off this that's true, yeah, make sure that milk splashing around a lot when you do it all right? I have to I don't know, I don't know if that was at the last, I think, because I had one thing with flash it's interesting that I forgot to mention was, you know, like these these were the thumbs I did for this this one video and they're very concede there really rough and stuff, but one thing with flashes we and I animate a lot of my stuff in flash, so then these could be brought into a bigger file, and I worked this rough when I animate and you can see it's it's practically animated very there's a lot of movement and, you know, later that these will go straight to the background of the layout artists, and then they can basically, like, you know, they would trace right over these key frames of these, you know, these were thumb frames of figuring out, you know, what? The moves were in the action and that's one thing that I like about using flash because, I mean, this was very spelled out timed out, you know, this is this is like the anti matic before something would be, you know, basically it's going to go to layout animation now and in this sequence, we're in another comic con down in miami and you're sitting at the pool. Yeah, using this out, I was really behind on this, and I was like, I can't hang out, I gotta work and we're out of this pool, and I was sitting here on this tablet just storyboarding, but I kind of like working in an active place because it's kind of like hanging out or something totally I have a quick question about just some storyboarding in general what do you do for like letter boxing and stuff oh wow. You know set up like if you notice like it's funny this is this like super wide and I was one three one on ones yeah, whatever it is I've never not won eighty five probably usually get the specs from your client like like this was for a video they had live action it and they would be like ok, give me the specs but tv and some stuff is pretty standard yeah, I mean you generally like if we go back to this right like I'll uh oh do a new project here the suspects are all over the place because there's just so many different things now but like I said, auto well that's where it didn't give me an option but um when we have a tv show you'll get the producer will give you they call delivery specs and usually the editor or that person will let you know when they set up all the files but for your own personal projects I mean you could probably pick what you want it to be if you wanted to be very wide or standard and he's going to show you a lot of these have standard templates now for it let me think even under the temple has ever phone and stuff to now like because every everything's a little different I think yeah, so few open up where my two open a new file right whiskey like you'll have these or some kind of default one so you'll see these air like this is like a film one six six ratio this is a film one three three ratio this is a standard hd tv ratio and I think you can you can make new ones if you want and just make it whatever so if you want to make it some kind of like it'll tell you the aspect ratio down there so if you want to do like that's kind of cool because you could technically do like one eight five if you want a good rule is a purely usually want to make it like say you're making like if you're making stuff for youtube you probably want to do a higher quality cause if someday you do want to get on tv or you wantto I don't know goto a higher resolution but I'm sure you want to lower fancy we can use so yeah this one and see groups should put it up here and you see this frame it's hard to tell but it's like a little bit wider probably if it did it right you know so you set it up in there I mean and if you do it on a piece of paper just draw it wider I guess but you can also protect like if you're like this movie that we're doing now we're gonna composite it all like sixteen by nine so we have a full frame but were cropping the top and bottom for like the projection so we don't put anything super important on the top and bottom like you know one of the things like you know, one of my pet peeves of like storyboarding it's like when somebody gives a character look ahead room for no reason like they put you know they put him down here and there's like all this extra head room appear it's like generally you want to like kind of have somebody's head out near the top or if you are giving him a lot of head room there's like a reason like it's like important sign that they have to see but then if you're doing like so where you know the top and bottom are getting a cropped you can put his head here because you know when they get to the you know when they do the uh you know they're going to crop it however like so you know when it when it actually gets made and do that quite well but you know you know it's going to be that so that's like oh that's an important reason to put head room on that cause gonna get cropped you know there's considerations if you know depending on what your format is you're young but like yeah the tv used to be more like a square that's why that old when I had it's a tv safe because you keep any words anything super important near the center because you different tvs are a little different but now everything's basically this now man you see everything there's nothing and cut off on that tv man nothing gets cut off you have a nice that tv is beautiful television set final thoughts as we wrap up this course any thoughts you want any advice you want to give to people just starting now that advice what's your advice I think mostly just the same stuff we said before I just like really really study and watched the stuff you love the most that you want to make and and just, you know, work hard and make stuff yeah, I think makes stuff is the key right you get theory is great theories I think at a certain point reaches a ceiling you khun research you can read you can look at stuff but doing it is the most important thing if you want to become good being a storyboard artist just draw a lot storyboard all the time it's like playing basketball or something the more you do it, the better you'll get they add it, so make storyboards if you wanna be a storyboard artist

I really enjoyed this course! The instructors were professionals who detailed their work in a way that really helped me. I've been storyboarding for a few years but have great new insight thanks to Chris and Christy. Loved their creative style which felt that I was in the studio with them just hanging out.

Very helpful class. The beginning was great to see how these artists approach analyzing a script and then putting shots together. Unfortunately, the class was pretty one sided as only one student asked questions when opportunities to ask these professionals was given. I am glad I spent the money on this class and plan to rewatch it after practicing.
