Closing Thoughts
as we close out our course together I want to leave you with one final thought in today's world change is the only constant. The internet is replacing T. V. As the world's biggest marketing platform and you know that's really made me think what happened all those years ago back when tv replaced radio as the world's biggest marketing platform. How exactly did marketers respond back then To find out? I went on a hunt to find the world's first TV ad and after going back over 70 years I finally found it. I finally found the world's first TV ad and I was so excited to see it. But let's just say I ended up being pretty disappointed at the end. The ad was for a watch company called boulevard and well let's I'll just let you see it for yourself. America runs on Bull of the time. Now I get it. This ad aired in 1941. A lot of things were different back then and I'm not knocking the technology that was available but here's what disappointed me about this ad and it's what most people don't realize...
you see boulevard didn't come up with something new for TV. Instead they just took the audio from their popular radio ad and put a still image in front of it and slap that on tv that was it and that's what you saw. So does both of them get credit for being the first to advertise on tv. Sure they do but do they make the most of that opportunity not even close and you see today the same thing is happening today. Too many brands are unfortunately not taking advantage of the opportunity as an internet replaced tv the same way tv replaced the radio, They're falling behind the times and they're just not being innovative enough. And I think that's where we can show more people what amazing marketing can look like in the 21st century.
