Putting It All Together
So I'm going to do just one really quick dry brush sort of fun funky little painting and I'm going to do something like this okay very very simple so I'm gonna go make some color think I'm gonna bring in some burnt sienna very simple huh yeah very soon flooded creating some mountains here and ok bring in a little other color obviously my light source is on the right coming in from here because the shadows are coming in over here I'm going to go and pick up some other color that's kind of ah scampering technique eu some mountains right yep vibration scrambling get another color one thing that really works well in water colors is just mixing up your colors as best you can I'm going to go in and then I'm gonna get something that's totally different color let's get some sky and they're gonna go for some so really in here cerulean is on our pal it know what I'm going to do on a wet first I did not do this last time okay I'm going to try to drop some sky and up above see if I can get it to b...
leed down now that makes a very interesting sky it's very light I don't know if you can see it sort of outline your mountains can we get a little more color in there and it won't go where I didn't paint the water see how it'll channel off so you can bring some of it down if you want it because I like you know it's not bad if it bleeds in in certain areas now this is really, really fast you know I mean it's it I don't think it's as good as the one I did last time last time has a little more character and interest to it you see if I can add just a little bit of shows have different breast strokes work together yeah and it's interesting to me that you started with a middle ground background it also shows how much you know the control with watercolor and not you know be able to utilize watercolor strength is really oh yeah I'm different from oil painting in oh yeah yeah yeah you couldn't you really couldn't get this I don't think that an oil painting you just can't you can't get the luminosity like this you can't get its dry brush and all that it's just it's a it just has a different look to it and it's it's one of the reasons I like it so much now another thing you can do and I did this in in uh one of the other paintings you can take a paper towel and while this is still wet clouds but they've got him texture and character to them because I see that now again I mean what did this take me for? Five minutes, four minutes? Not great, but it shows you what you can do then with a little more thought and a little less rush, you know, it could have been like I say, I like the one that I put in the presentation better but that's what you do? Yeah. It's fun that's very, very fun. You can see how you could do something like that. No wonder traveled sketches. Yes, you know, right. You just okay. Look, unless you sponges tissue, you conduce anything. Now take a look at what happened to this piece when it stopped bleeding and when it you know, it was still wet and look what? Look what it did. Look, look att thiss now see, I love that stuff. Uh, these were not very good colors to use together, but I just love what that did there. I mean, you could use that to such effect like a feather or something. Yeah. I mean, you could just have a look again think of those things that you see under see and it's very appropriate because it's the water that does that. Okay, guys, so we're winding down. This is an exercise that is in the exercise files. We're not going to paint this here because it takes this takes a while to paint. But take your I put a sheet in for you in your exercise books. For those of you here in class in in the live class. Try to paint this if you can. It's a challenge. I painted it three times before I ended up with this one that I felt ok. I can I can photograph that and put it in. Um it's. Not easy, but try it. These are artists in this presentation. Uh, other artists to check out, try toe, give you as much mind overload as I possibly can. Because all of these people have something to teach you that lacks holman dot or ge. He is the teacher of the woman that I showed you, rebecca l fast from sweden. He is her mentor and her teacher. So check all of these people out there really worth it. And of course, daniel smith. I would also recommend this class with some hesitation. This course is a broad and sweeping overview of watercolor painting. It is a good reference course and I will probably be treated like a reference book for watercolors. The skills we covered were valuable. It was beneficial to hear about the watercolor artists that Molly enjoyed and to have a list. The exercises were appropriate. I would recommend this course to someone who likes to know all the details of things before getting started. If you are someone that wants to jump right in this may be frustrating. Obviously, I am the latter. A few suggestions from my perspective....limit the product pushing. The references to Daniel Smith were off putting. I will try to avoid purchasing their products at all costs even if they are the best. It was very difficult to get access to the paint colors that she wanted us to have as some of the names are slightly different than what is available to me locally. I have already taken a beginner color watercolor course which I loved!! If I had not taken that course I probably would have been lost here. In that course(also online) we finished a project for every 10 minute lesson. I learned the basic technique's and it was FUN! I wish this class had more projects to practice that can be completed by a beginner and intermediate. Portraits seem like a large undertaking and it would be helpful to build confidence with smaller and simpler projects. I just felt a little discouraged. Molly is very talented and the work she shared was very thoughtful and showed incredible skill! I am very thankful that she took the time to teach the class and share her knowledge.
