It’s Time to Optimize, Automate & Outsource Your Work
So why am I the person to tell you about this? Over the years I've probably worked with about different virtual assistant companies. Everything from dedicated assistance in India to On Demand providers in Eastern Europe to South America, US based and everything in between every kind of modality you could have with a virtual assistant. But beyond that I'm also the creator of the productivity system known as Less Doing, More Living. So four years ago I was on the stage in this very room at CreativeLive teaching that course on how to optimize automate and outsource everything in your life in order to be more effective. After a serious bout with a chronic illness that had me working very few hours in the day if even more than one hour I had to come up with a new way of getting things done. And this was the result. So my first and second book were about the art of less doing. And less doing more living. And then about two years ago I partnered up with my friend Nick Sonnenberg and we launc...
hed a company called Leverage. Idea to Execution is our book that showcases the journey we went through in our first year from launching the company in 24 hours with absolutely no funding. Growing it to $1 million in revenue our first year. And in our second year having nearly 200 people on the team across 17 time zones doing over 1000 hours of work every week for over 500 clients. And Leverage's unique selling proposition is that we can do anything for any business or person. As long as it's legal. And we've really taken that to the limits with some really interesting, really crazy and life changing tasks and projects. Now the OAO method, the Optimize Automate Outsource method is really where this all starts. And what you have to think about before you can even begin to effectively outsource. So most people make the mistake of trying to outsource first. And the reason that that is a mistake is because if you take an inefficient problem give it to somebody else it will become way less efficient. (laughs) And there's a big difference between delegating and outsourcing which we're gonna get into here. This OAO methodology really informs every decision that I make in terms of making processes more efficient so with optimize I'm really saying look at the process itself first that may sound really simple. But a lot of times if you ask somebody why do they do things the way they do it they'll say because that's how I've always done it. Or that's how we've done it for the last six months or that's how we've done it since we installed that software or hired that person. Really bad reason to keep doing things the way that you're doing it. As much as I do own an outsourcing company I'm always trying to avoid outsourcing because as soon as you involve a human being you're opening yourself up to errors to people getting bored, people getting sick, move on. You're just opening yourself up to too much liability. So we start with optimize, identify the steps in the process, make it inherently as efficient as possible by removing any redundancy, removing any holes that don't need to be there. Second part is to look at automation. We can automate things now that a month ago a person had to do. And sometimes it's free and it will run in the background you'll never have to think about it. It will never make a mistake, it will never sleep. And in some cases it will be the key to your ability to scale. And every business nowadays needs to be thinking about how they're going to scale, whether as an entire company or even individual divisions within that. The last step once we've optimized and automated is to outsource.
