Adding Embellishments to Scrapbooking Templates

So I'm going to start with this cluster of here and we have circles, but look at this circles a little bit bigger, I'm not going to freak out if it was, if the embellishment I was pulling in was bigger than the circle by a lot, I would probably resize it down and make it smaller. But it's ok, if it's a little different and I think that that circle is a good place for a button buttons, there are great little editions to lay out that are, um, they don't detract from they just kind of add to your layout, and we're gonna have a flower like house alma layout, and you can see that this flower is a lot bigger and it's underneath, we don't want that. We need to make sure that we keep our stacking order appropriate, so I'm gonna pull it up top and I'm going to reduce the size of it remember, we don't want tio increase the size because that will distort. So if you have a flower that is a lot smaller than the place on the on the template that's designated for a flower and I want to take a differe...

nt flower because if you wanted to take up the same visual space and you try and increase the size it's going to be too small or too distorted so what I dio as I'm filling up these spots as I make sure that I go and after every single time and I delete the place holder because you don't want to get to the end of the layout you want, you don't want to have it printed and then find all of these folks I forgot to delete the's place holders, so a good rule of thumb is to always delete them as you're adding things in, I'm going to add a banner that is not the right shape, but it is word art, and I think that that's fine, it looks great to me, and as I moved down the layout and start filling things and you want to make sure that you are keeping in mind, um, some design rules. So the visual triangle, that kind of stuff you wantto make sure that you are using repetition, you can use the same flowers over and over again, all of that sort of stuff. Now, as I move down the layout, I'm obviously not going to leave the title over the flower you can build on top of it, and I might overlap it a little bit, but for now I'm going to leave it there just as a placeholder until I start adding my title and I need more word art look, I happen to have an oval one in this kit that will work and where did it go it's too low so I'm going tio select shift select this phanor her this word art and I'm going to move it up so that it brings that layer that was underneath up and I'm gonna delete it so that we don't have to search in the layers palate again another flower and this is the same flower I used up here so we've got the it's a different color but because it's the same flower it's got that uh design repetition we like making smaller again and I have a circle spot again so I think I'm going to create some more repetition with another cork embellishment so let's use the heart don't start it over and of this stacking order is incorrect you're not gonna put cork on top of the ribbon flowers so we're gonna move it down let's see if we can find it in layers palette they get back okay and ok so now we have a banner and we have a curled ribbon and we have another flower over here and I mean this kid do not have a curled ribbon and because I have this one but it's more flat and because I'm a one kit scrapbook her I'm not going to go search for curled ribbon so I'm gonna put this flat ribbon in here and I'm going to see how it works out for me see if I like it I'm complete that curled ribbon I'm out of flat ruben into now the beauty of dragging and dropping is of course that they're smart objects so if I need to change the size up again later it's not goingto distort my layout if I need to increase the size of the ribbon back up to one hundred percent it's not going to distort my layout and a couple more embellishments do I have a banner in here question from james risch is wondering when you remove the place holder after clipping how does this shadow stay on the embellishment um the shadow that you can see in the stay out that the shadow doesn't stay but because I didn't delete them but the place holder of here it had a shadow and I was going to come back to that in a way to look for a place holders but everything else that the place holder is gone it doesn't have a shadow and that's what we're gonna we're going to talk about shadowing again and making sure that we go in and shadow everything but have a banner in here and it's different if you're worried about the shadow's um on your place holders you can always come in here and copy the layer style if you think that the shadow is appropriate for the embellishment that you're leaving in its place you can copy the layer style and then when you drag in the flower you can paste the layer style to flower before you delete the place other um but the shadows keep in mind that the shadows on temple it's aren't always going to be appropriate for your embellishments so that's why I like to have my own shadows that I can come in afterwards and um shadow so let's sleep this banner now and everything's starting to look really flat because we don't have shadows except for these papers back here because they were clips so the placeholder rather than deleted from the place holder wasn't deleted hey someone now we just need a button so anchor this banner making a little smaller and then I want the same button on the other end of the banner so I'm just going to duplicate it command jay and soon so I can drag it over and it's going to be a little bit different because my banner ends in a different place that's ok, because we're going to leave the place holder and now I have one more and this calls for like a circular object but because I have won two flowers here I'm going to use another one of those ribbon flowers and complete my visual triangle so don't be afraid to change the template to make it adapt to your kid to what you like to include on your layout and to make it work for the design rules that you want to follow and look down here, I forgot I miss a paper, but that's okay, we can go in and add it, the key is to find it before you printed, they were killed and then down here, uh, it says a paper, but I think I'm going to drag in an embellishment. I have a long like paint chips style with hearts, and so we're going to write down here, make it smaller and finish it off. But that doesn't look, it looks a little weird down here like it's, not it's, not completely done, and it looks like I have one to cork embellishment, so let's finish off that visual triangle with another cork embellishment, and we'll do celebrate, and we'll put right here in the corner toe. We'll put it right here in the corner so that it really makes a nice little triangle down there in the corner as well. Okay, so I have I've filled up the template with all the embellishments in all the papers that the template requested, but it's not looking that right to me if there's some things that feel off that don't work with the kit that I chose that don't work with my design aesthetic, so I'm going to delete this yellow ribbon. I don't like it, it doesn't look right here, so I'm just going to delete it, and when I delete it, I realize that there's a little bit of space here that I don't really like to, so because of my design aesthetic and what I like, I'm going to change it just a little, just slightly to move it up and to close that gap a little bit. Don't be afraid to fix your templates if you're deleting things, if you're moving things around, do not be afraid to edit your templates and make them work for what you want. What is the difference between deleting and just turning off the visibility? The leading is gone? Okay? And then I mean, if you just turn off the visibility when you printed, it doesn't print right? No, it won't print it's invisible, but yeah, file will be increased because it's still there, and also, if you just turn off the visibility rather than believe you can always turn it back on later. It's still be in your layer structure so that some things like if you said, ok, I'm going take this ribbon out and see how it looks would you turn it off first and look at it, go home, maybe I need it and then I probably like me. I'd probably delete it first, and if I was like, oh, no way. I actually like that. You just can't command tonto bringing back okay, okay, um, if I wasn't sure if I was like, let's, leave it off for a little while and see how I feel about it. Then I would just remove the visibility, but because I knew I didn't like it, and I wouldn't like it down the line. I just delete it from the layer structure altogether.

I'm currently halfway through the courses, and I am so glad I decided to watch these. I haven't been scrapping for very long, and am mostly self taught through tutorials found on the internet and youtube. I found that various concepts weren't explained to me (how to really use a template, designer intentions, how to use other layouts for inspiration) and so I sort of hit a wall trying to get further in scrapping digitally. This course basically broke down the walls and provided me with so much info and inspiration that I feel really comfortable in taking my efforts further. Whereas before I was thinking that I might always be stuck with a mediocre result :) thank you Traci!!
