So this activity, I'm gonna walk you through this one. This is something that you can do in your notebooks, you can do there in your office on your whiteboard, you can take this home with you tonight. I'm a big fan of the mind map. I'm a big fan of getting things out of my head so that I can see them. The way that I do this, and I believe in your handouts you have a worksheet for this. If you download this from the course materials you can open up to that page in the workbook. And what I do here is I put my name in the middle. So in this case, I would write Team Jason. And then I look at the calendar, I may look at my projects list, I may sit down with my team, my family, or a mentor and I might ask myself, okay, what's coming at me over the next 12 months and who can I turn to for ideas, for counsel, for advice? Anyone in the room in the market, does anyone know they're in the market for a new mentor? Does anyone know that they're ready for, kinda hanging out with someone at the next ...
level? I see a couple of hands going up. For those of you online, I love asking that question. Who's in the market for a new mentor? You know what's fascinating about mentoring is we love being asked to mentor people but we worry about how long it's gonna take. We worry if our mentee is gonna take our advice. We worry about what's gonna be involved in those people coming to us. What I'm doing here, is I'm building my mentor scripts. So there on that piece of paper, I'm gonna ask you to take about 30 seconds and in the boxes, the ovals, the rectangles. If you go across this page, what I'm gonna ask you to do is to write down, two, three, four, go up to six and these are people over the next 12 months you know you're gonna turn to for advice, for counsel, for ideas. These are people that you may want to go talk to about a visionary idea you have. Whether that's personal or professional. These are people that maybe you're going to look to to hold you accountable, to the goals you set, the ideas that you put into motion. These might be people you turn to more on the realist side. Where you need someone to poke a hole in your business plan, poke a hole in your life plan. But let me just give you about 30 seconds here to rock around that mind map and just let yourself see names or initials, up to six people who you know you're gonna turn to for counsel, for advice, for ideas. On a first blush, probably not gonna be a lot of surprises. You're gonna write good friends, bosses, colleagues, maybe an intern, maybe a coach or a mentor. I go one, at least one layer deep. So I may go over here and go, okay. As I'm going through the next 12 months what is the one or two pieces of advice I know I'll wanna get from Quanna? What are the one or maybe two things that I know I'll want to ask of Jody? Of Joe? Or of Craig? And that way, when I do get Quanna on the phone, when I do sit down face to face with Craig, when Joe and I go for a bike ride, yes, I want the absolute opportunity to talk about whatever we want to talk about as long as I'm choosing not to talk about the thing that I think he can help me with. So whoever you wrote down, first step, I would let them know you consider them someone you turn to for counsel, for advice, or for ideas. I might also let them know you may come to them in a mentoring situation. So that way, when you bring a question, when you ask for help, they're ready to give you that bit of assistance.
