Sell Yourself

I have to admit that I am shocked I haven't fallen on these high heels doing that this whole time, so knock on some would I gather one more one more to go? Speaking of which we're on lesson twenty four let's, check out what our goal is. Our goal for this lesson is to create a tagline for how your personality ads distinct value and before we got started here some of our fine studio audience members were saying at the end of this lesson you will feel like a superhero and I agree I felt a little bad putting this all the way at the end of the boot camp, but I think it's going to be well worth it all right? So too at the end of today's lesson, you'll have a tag line for the way your personality adds distinct value, but before we do that let's review where we were in the previous lesson, your vlog and really set your business apart. So whether it's your block or whether it's some other content marketing that you're using this is a huge opportunity maybe a daily opportunity, a weekly opportun...

ity to set your business apart to help you stand out, use your unique voice, sherri your unique point of view and create something different with it that's going to be your key to standing out with your content marketing let's see where we are this is our penultimate lesson of the bill to stand out business boot camp the session five lesson twenty four sell yourself I got a question for you to conversations where you might have to sell yourself cause you stress did they cause you stress yeah well you're not alone clearly clearly they used to cause me a lot of stress too and then I got over it on and I'm about to show you one of them one of the ways that I have gotten over it being able to put you know in two to three words how my business creates distinct value how I distinct value to my client's lives has made it really easy to sell myself in fact, the best part is it never feels like I'm selling anything because it's not about selling yourself it's about showing up and saying here's who I am and this is what I've got for you that sound all right cool now here's the problem you have nine seconds to hook the person you're talking to nine seconds in fact you probably have less than that our attention spans get shorter and shorter and shorter every year and that's not going to change anytime soon until maybe we can literally rewire our brains like hello the matrix we are we're going to be a part of this digital age where information is bombarding us at every turn and that means that your window of opportunity tow hook someone to start a relationship to make them want to know more about you. And what you have to offer them is gonna get shorter and shorter. So might be nine seconds now might be eight seconds tomorrow. Who knows? But it's not long. So the faster we can hook someone, the faster we can explain how it is that we can benefit the person we're talking. Teo, the more likely we are to start a long term relationship. I want to remind you about this fine woman. Her name is sally hogshead, and she is the creator of the fascination advantage system. The fascination advantage system and she said, better isn't better. Different is better. Creating your tag line for your unique personality is about being able to say in two every words what makes you different on what makes the way you provide value different it's about offering that distinct compelling uh, cece inked way to describe how you do what you do differently than everyone else. Now, when you know how to sell yourself, sell yourself it's in quotations for a reason. You confront load the value a front load, the unique way you add value into every conversation this is something that sally taught me that really blew my mind, you can front load. The value that you add into every conversation, what that means is that when you know how to clearly on succinctly tell people here's how I do what I do differently and here's what, that something is, then you can start every conversation with that so my anthem will just cut right to the chase. My anthem is intense, goal oriented leadership. Have you guys noticed how I have front loaded my value into every lesson so far? We start with a goal way start with a goal, and then I lead you to that goal by the end of every lesson, and I'm kind of intense and my intense a little bit. I did a webinar about a month ago and got several responses the day or two after the webinar that said terror, that was really intense, but I loved every minute of it. It was like I win at webinar because not only did I front load my value into that webinar as well, but people really responded to that intensity. Now that might not work for you. In fact, it probably would not. I would not recommend talking as fast as I talk when I get really excited about stuff, specifically chief initiatives, but I do really recommend front loading your value into every conversation, so think about that I mean think back on the boot camp think about every lesson that you've watched so far where have you seen my intense goal oriented leadership throughout this boot camp and how has that helped you to become more goal oriented and toe leave yourself even better because that's the other part of this is it's not just about me but it's about you two I want one of the results where two of the results really that you get art is to be more goal oriented to make sure that you're always working toward that next thing whatever's important to you and for you to feel like you can lead yourself do not always relying on a guru or an expert or a coach, but instead you can rely on yourself in your own quiet power. So what we're going to do today is create your anthem, your anthem is that tagline for how your personality adds distinct value the two to three word phrase it's an adjective and a noun that's it an additive and announce when this additive and noun can change your life, I have seen it happened and it is amazing, okay, so here's how you go about creating your anthem on? We've got I've got some activities here for you this is a very activity heavy lesson, so just follow along with us you've got in your worksheets two blocks one for your well spring activities and one for your quick sand activities your wellspring activities are the things that you do in your business that excite you that energized you the things on your to do list you really look forward to so what activities in your business make you feel really effective really energized really exciting excited shot a few down because we're doing this right now so jot a few down what titties in your business make you feel really excited really energized really effective what activities make you feel really excited energised an effective you minute for that then I want you to think about your quick sand activities you're quick sand activities are the opposite of your wellspring activity is there the activities that make your business feel really in the things that you do in your business that make you feel really ineffective? What activities in your business make you feel really ineffective? What activities really drain you what activities really drain you what activities make you feel ineffective? Well the people at home are still answering these questions let's get some shares in here bree and what are some of your well spring activities? Some of the wellspring activities for me or when I in a conversation doesn't matter if it's one on one or in a group where I get feels mark okay uh anything so anything that you're doing that makes you feel smart all right, anything else? Uh another thing is, uh when I see or or here ah success story from someone on just any chance to geek out like when I get teo tell a story or like cider research study because I've been known to do that once or twice yeah, and and I get teo feel smart by doing that that's something that really energized okay? And you probably do that writing blogged posts on client calls things like that awesome what are some of your quicksand activities this one's actually trickier for me because you know, I've done this activity a few times and I would have a hard time coming up with what my quicksand activities are um if it's any time where I feel like I'm doing busy work rather than just being effective sure and when do you feel like you're doing busy work? Uh when I'm so administrative work, for example would be an example of that jerk maybe bookkeeping like my bookkeeping cause I'm a math ski okay ferret out the nervous kind of make me feel smart fair enough? Um okay, so that maybe getting coaching agreement signed? Yeah, yeah. Cool. Uh, about melissa what do your wellspring activities riffing on questions in a live setting ok where I get to show my expertise and share my stories and inspire people um anything that's building building something out creating something get so fired up expressing my idea my ideas in any format, any medium, any format quicksand, bookkeeping and maintaining things I'm a creator I'm not a maintainer so like ongoing programs that last forever suck me dry yeah gotcha. All right, let's get one more set of wellspring enacted on quick stay out activities. Cathy what? You're wellsprings brainstorming okay visioning um coming over new ideas? Yes conversations telling stories stories is huge in mind. Um quick sand are those step by step details I love giving presentations but doing a power point kills me to actually think of what those steps are um working on my website I hate hate hate on which it was evident back in a few lessons ago. So yeah, anything we're I'm just not the details person I'm not that in the weeds person yeah, all right, great. Thank you. So hopefully that gives you plenty of time at home to write down your wellspring activities and your quicksand activities. Now they've got those things written down bring back to mind what we talked about all the way back unless and to which was the seven fascination the seven languages of fascination the seven fascination advantages in sally's system and I want you to think about how your language is the language is that people see in you how the world sees you, how those languages relate to your wellspring activities how did the languages that you've used most readily the way is that you you feel communicating most comfortably in the way of the world sees you how did they relate to your wellspring activities so let's review what those are innovation the language of creativity passion the language of emotion power the language of strength prestige the language of excellence trust the language of consistency mystique the language of substance and listening and alert the language of details reon what's your top language prestige baby president so how does that relate to your wellspring activities so feeling smart is how my prestige shows up absolutely absolutely cathy what was your top language? Prestige but passion is my so it's that story yeah absolutely absolutely but I also heard you say like I really like giving presentations and so there's that and probably brainstorming to really plays into excellence like I want to have I wanted not only create the new idea but the best idea yeah you want to be there smartest person in the room to which is so hard in these conversations sweet because I'm not and I'm like oh my god a that's a really good side of you understanding where where you need to be in your business now on melissa what was your top language or talk so prestige okay mind with passion all right and so being able to tell your stories and I think you know, you you mentioned q and a I think having that quick answer is a prestige thing too, because even if even if you don't want to be the smartest person in the room you want to have to be this yeah okay but you also want to have an answer right? You love being challenged yes, right and q and a I love cumin a as well clearly on dh and so bet challenge of what someone going to say what's coming at me next is really exc saigon and it helps you shine right? Do you guys get the feeling that these air not only are these the activities that you feel most effective at but these were the activities that people are really drawn to you with? Yeah yeah that's that's you adding value right there? Yeah, thank you say it again feel alive? Yes, absolutely so how does the language you're most comfortable using relate to your wellspring activities now if you have taken the fascination advantage assessment, you also have a dormant language, a language that you don't use naturally or less naturally than the others or a doorman advantage minus trust now that doesn't mean that I'm not trustworthy means I build trust in other ways but that consistency and dependability is maybe not my forte you know melissa was talking about she has trouble maintaining things when she gets them going I hire people to do that for me I hire people with a trust advantage with that easily speak the language of trust because that's something that I struggle with as well and so whatever your doorman advantages is probably related to your quick stand activities as opposed your wellspring activities makes sense all right here we go so now we're gonna look at how would you describe your difference now your difference is your adjective all right and your adjective comes from your unique fascination advantage ages your languages so think about that fascination advantage or the fascination language that either you identified as this is my top this is my top language this is how people see me this is how I see myself this is when I feel most comfortable or go back into your fascination advantage report and actually pull out what your top two languages are and then you could I'm going to put up here for each language several adjectives that you can choose from to describe how you do what you do differently okay we start with the adjective so for innovation we have artistic pioneering a reverent cutting edge deliberate diligent for passion energizing, dynamic, inclusive, expressive sincere attentive you don't have to write all of these down just focus on the ones that described how you do what you do differently power innovative compelling ambitious, methodical proactive genuine prestige forward thinking insightful best in class systematic polished trust approachable prepared hardworking, levelheaded, purposeful analytical mystique independent mindful intentional observant on target pragmatic and alert strategic organized decisive, detailed, steadfast, structured meticulous these are your adjective options for now you could always use that the saurus to come up with new ones this's about the creating a starting point not a finish product but these air the adjectives that you can start with does everyone have atleast one adjective picked out maybe maybe two or three that they're having trouble choosing between yes okay, so just just to recap for everyone back at home you I thought about what your top fascination advantages your top fascination language you've looked on the screen here and you've chosen one of the adjectives in that language that allows you to describe how you do what you do differently now. It's time for a mad lib not exactly it's more of a fill in the blank we're gonna experiment with your difference so think about the adjective or additives that you've chosen that really describe how you do what you do differently and fill in the blank people can always count on me to be which of your adjectives fits their people can always count on me to be I can solve certain problems better than anyone else because I am I can solve certain problems better than anyone else because I am I am better suited to serve my customers because I deliver solutions that are I am better sir suited to serve my customers because I deliver solutions that are now take a look which which one word is really sticking out to you now and maybe if one of the words that I put up there isn't the right word for you maybe a synonym or related word a complimentary word is this is your opportunity to do some tweaking of course you can tweak a cz muchas you like after this lesson let's let's hear some adjectives oh no that's okay insightful meghan um I picked practical but its xena little boring okay, well we will help with that. Okay? Okay yeah, one thing that's really fun and I'm getting ahead of myself a little bit here is that when you do this activity you've got two words an adjective and announce on what you are it gets really good when you're adjective and now are almost foils of each other so when you khun pair one word with on unexpected a compliment so in my head already I've got ideas for you so if practical makes sense and I think that it does I think you will see when we get to the second word that you have some options okay uh you said insightful janice forward thinking forward thinking you want the one from the lester do you want my fun word? I want your fun word perspicacious yes leave that conventional unconventional bridget I'm trying to pick between two I have sincere and attentive your tent hold on to both of them for right now let's see when we get to the now in which one you're able to play with a little bit better and I have a feeling that neither of those are actually the word and that you'll probably want to do some sourcing. Okay? Okay. That's aver by the way the sourcing amy I'm split with two is ball are expressive and irreverent I like a reverence for you but we'll see when we get to the now okay? Kate compelling okay. Insightful and expressive are the two that okay? Most michelle creative okay and our rising michelle you don't sound excited. I just feel like creatives kind of done, you know, like everybody's everybody. Yeah. Okay, so we might need to teo something I knew the sorrow that her absolutely, meghan I'm stuck between four for all right? Give it to us insightful, mindful intention inal observant okay, so three of them are pretty similar, you know, different flavors and observant like observant I don't know that it describes you at your highest value. Yeah, that's another piece here is that we're looking for how you represent you at your highest value as well as your distinct value ashley I'm stuck between observant and intentional but intentional feels a little war like power opposed to me? Yeah it's power one of the languages that you actually is not one of my languages actually I have a very strange thing like a mistaken innovation at the top but like each one after that is like one lower between all of them so like it's oh you so you're very consistent I'm pretty consistent yeah that's not unusual that's not unusual it just means you got a lot of tools in your toolbox true and so you can you can actually play around with words it's a lot so if you like feeling like you're in power pose and and you said intentional is the one that describes observing is like yeah nam is everything okay? Whatever but like intentional is like yes so I have some ideas for what you might be able to do with that too ah trees have cutting edge and diligent but I'm not really moved by either yeah, I think cutting edge though is getting is closer to where you're going to want to be closer closer yeah tiffany uh have sincere for now I like that for you. Yeah, I think it I think it is good. Yeah, I'm great. Yeah, nice. Thank you guys all right, now I want you to think about the number one problem or need your customers come to you with what's the number one problem or need that your customers come to you with now? We talked about this a little bit way back a thinking session too ah but what's the number one problem or need your customers come to you and the reason we want to think about that problem or need because we're about to think about solution it's how do you solve that problem? So think about what's the number one problem or need your customers come to you with and then think about how you solve that problem. What do you do for your customers? What do you do for your customers that solves that number one problem or need example when I did this activity with sally and she asked me that question, I came up with the number one problem my customers country with its feeling like they are in the weeds of their business, they are overwhelmed, they are in reaction mode, they don't know how to be strategic about their actions about where they're going next they don't know how to get that big picture look and so she said, how do you solve that problem? And I said, well, I teach them how to lead themselves, I give them tools that allow them to see the big picture of their business so that instead of reacting they are being proactive that's how I do what I d'oh I help my customers lead themselves if you've read my book you know that's a big theme in the quiet power strategy book helping people lead themselves I hope that you all throughout the course of this boot camp feel like now you have some tools some actions that allow you to lead yourself that's how I saw the number one problem my clients come to me with how do you solve the number one client number one problem your customers or clients come to us now that you've got that in your head I want you to choose a noun so you've got a whole list of announce here that you can choose from that described the solution that you create for your customers the solution I create for my customers is leadership not only do I give them my leadership but I help them access their leadership so what's the solution you provide and what's the result that comes from that and which now on on this list addresses that now as you're looking at that noun whether you're online or offline I'm gonna give you a little bit more time just want you to know I'll be right back keep looking lisa I can't find one that really seems to fit what I do that's fine come up with your own ok just need to come up with a known and so these air these air examples feel free to choose a word that's not on this list it just make sure it's a noun does the most important thing and it should be really related to the solution that you create for your customers that solves that number one problem choose a noun that describes how you solve the problem all right? Okay, I'm starting to see some people be done and I know what there's also some ringers in the audience so I'm going to say keep thinking if you need to keep thinking but I'm going to move on. All right now all you have to do is put it together your adjective plus your noun equals your anthem your adjective plus your noun equals your anthem goal oriented leadership fascinating communication, transformative breakthroughs purposeful follow through creative details, innovative problem solving put it together your adjective plus you're now equals your anthem as you're still thinking about that I'm gonna move on I'm going to give you a little bit more time to be thinking studio audience because you look a little scared ask yourself once you've started putting it together, could your anthem help others better understand their relationship to you? In other words, what they're going to get out of being in relationship with you as a service provider as a maker as as a solution giver could your anthem help others better understand their relationship with you? Could your anthem show others why what you offer is more valuable to them than other solutions could your anthem show others why what you offer is more valuable to them than other solutions what does your anthem help your ideal clients see in themselves? What does your anthem help your ideal clients see in themselves? And finally, how could your anthem help differentiate your products or services? How did your anthem help differentiate your products or services goal oriented leadership? I don't know that you're going to find another business strategy business coaching solution that encourages you to find your own leadership in your business that's how my anthem differentiates my products and services how does your anthem help you differentiate your products and services? Your anthem is part of your standout style whether you come up with the final product today and you're super happy with it. I've done this three times and come up with three different answers the last one being my favorite, obviously the one I'm talking to you about, so this may not be something that you finished today, but it's something that you can create a starting point out for today and that anthem can help you navigate your entire stand out style everything that we've done to this point you can start to see through the lens of your anthem and that everything that we've done to this point can influence your anthem this is your shorthand these these are your key words for frontloading value into every conversation for hooking your customers, your influencers, your colleagues at the beginning, you know, every time you meet them, this is how you can see whether that block post is really going to hit it or whether it's going to fall flat, you can see whether a product is positioned well for your business or not. Your anthem is the lens through which you can see your entire standout style. So I want to hear some of the anthems that we've got in the audience. Cathy, what did you come up with? Insightful leadership, insightful leadership. I like that. Do you feel like that would allow you to kind of front load value into a communication with the new client? Absolutely. Yeah, I like I like that. You feel so good about that? That's me. Excellent. What else? Kate stumble a little bit here. Compelling choices. I love that actually. And sure, I could see that maybe you wanna, like, massage the words a little bit, but choices for me for you sounds perfect because that's what you're all about, right, you're about showing people the choices they have to make and, you know, like you said in an earlier less and everything khun b medicine or everything could be poison which to me is all about choices right so what are the choices that you have in front of you for your health and which one's air really compelling youto toward the goals you have to the outcomes that you really want to achieve does that feel good yes yeah I think maybe the other one I had was um compelling navigation well I could see that too sure sure sure sure yeah yeah play with it a little bit but I think you're definitely on the right track definitely on the right track. Melissa so the best the closest that I've come so far as insightful energizing mentoring I like that I like that I'm struggling with a noun but that's the closest that I yeah I'm entering I could definitely see that being on the prestige piece because mentoring really implies taking someone who's a few steps behind you or maybe more than a few steps behind you and pulling them up the ladder right or guiding them up the ladder really you're not pulling them, guiding them up the ladder toward excellence or toward where they want to be really helping them up level yeah I like that I like god amy um irreverent strategies oh, I love that a reverent strategies and this is what I was saying earlier about how these two things can play off of each other really become foils for each other that's really unexpected you do I mean did anyone expect her to say strategies after she said a reverent no so if you were to walk up to say something to someone and say hey I'm amy I'm from the georgia junkie dot com and I help my clients you create a reverent strategies for navigating their lives and really getting everything out of their life that they want I'm gonna want to know more about that right beautiful meghan citing now okay so remind me what your adjective was again practical practical could it be just practical creativity practical bounty practical abundance you know I thought the practical inspiration but if like inspirations is kind of overused yeah all the practical makes it much more interesting you guys see how that works there tio practical definitely makes inspiration unexpected and more interesting I don't love it but I mean it's essentially the same place I was going with creativity tio um I would play like with abundance or bounty or you know one of those words that speaks mohr tio how did you describe what you do earlier you help people at the most from their gardens yeah and that to me is all about abundance and bounty so um yeah I would say take it the saurus on dh go nuts ok false you know, go down the rabbit hole with that all right? Well, I've got one more actually I've got intentional strategies, intentional strategies and what was the other adjective you had delivered? I didn't observant to serve and I also like deliberate so I don't know yeah oh I know what I was going to say for you what about intentional observations yeah, you might be onto something there I could feel myself teo trees what was yours? What do you come up with the place some of imaginative was cutting edge and then with a noun I'm tor nw between protection solution strategy in sight some kind of okay I really like protection. Okay um and it may not be the final word so what's the number one problem that people come to us they're worried alright? Yes oh, that protection they're worried about whether their businesses protected about whether they're making the right decisions and they're worried about what they don't know. S o I do think the protection piece is probably the strongest. What about cutting edge safety for creative entrepreneurs? I'm not moved you're not muno really better? I like safety safety feels closer than really for lee feels a little tio safety feel stronger okay play with protection and safety those those are my favorites because one one theme that we've coming we've kept coming back to you with you is this idea that your clients want to feel protected and confident so maybe it's cutting out confidence I'd like cutting edge confidence, it's the cutting edge that is not working for me as much, though, because I feel like it feels so like lofty in that as tangible for for my clients, like if it were a huge organization, maybe cutting edge what connect, but for my clients, I'm not sure cutting edge really fit. Sure, sure, but I think it's, I think you're on the right track, and so I'm going to give you the same work, okay? Everyone else gets with a source out, okay? Most of us carry the sources around in our pockets now, right? So get your source out and look for a look forward that does really speak to you. I think you're on the right track with the noun for sure, ok? And it's really different to which I really like. All right, so any questions about building your anthem now, lisa, then way, do you use it? How do you use it? So sometimes you're anthem is really snappy, and you might actually use it. Like in your copy, on your about page, in the tag line, for your sights or for your business, you might put it on your business card other times you have really. Wordy ones like mind that I would never use intense goal oriented leadership in my copy but what I do is if if you remember back to our business bio lesson in my in my business or in my about paige I talk about how I help I lied I help I lied entrepreneurs or I lead myself too toward goals with intense focus and vision and I teach them to do I teach others to do the same so there I've created the both sides of the leadership piece I've I've included that intensity and that focus and I talk about goals at the same time so then I'm kind of spreading it out and I'm opening up the theme a little bit because like I said, I would never use my anthem and copy but for a lot of you I mean patrice even like cutting edge confidence or cutting edge safety it may not you may not love it it may not be where it's at but it's a great tagline like that snappy right on dh that's not a reason to stick with it necessarily I think you should find what you want to you know, find something that really speaks to you but there's there's really good ones here that you could just actually taken use verbatim in the copy on your site but it's also something I would use in a live introduction so what was your anthem I'm going back five to choose from, I think unconventional awareness, unconventional awareness so and lisa marie on the founder of creativity lab and I give I work with people to find unconventional awareness of their own creative process so that they could set themselves free and create mohr of the impact that they wanna have. I love you, teo that's how an anthem works yeah, okay, so today's homework it's a build your anthem? Yeah, and I would love for you to use it to write a new twitter or other social media bio. This is another really great place to use your anthem or to infuse your anthem into your work is in social media where people are you know it everything's going a mile a minute, the conversation is going fast and furious and you need to be able to hook people fast. Your anthem is a great thing to put in your twitter bio your instagram bio your facebook by a whatever it might be whatever social media platform you want to choose, update your your bio to incorporate or or make it infused with your new anthem and then experiment with using your anthem to introduce yourself just like what I did with lisa right there and then finally tweet us at terra gentili an act creative live with your anthem use the hashtag stand out is I cannot wait to see what kind of anthems. You guys come up with this. I'm just love this so much.

I can't say enough good things about this course. Tara provided so many new ways for me to think about my approach to the business I'm building -- from branding and personality, to vision and goals. The sessions are very methodical and focused, with actionable steps that help us move in the direction we WANT to move, not the direction that others say we should. And that's my favorite part of this bootcamp: that the key to a stand-out business lives within each of our unique styles. The sections on Fascination Language were pivotal for me. They got my brain energized about all of the ways I can use my natural approach as an advantage, as opposed to feeling held back by things that drain me. I was also impressed with the questions from the audience, how smart and relevant they were, and how astute Tara's responses were. If you missed the live broadcast of this bootcamp, the cost to purchase is well worth it.

At first I was tuning in to watch live from my computer at work but I kept missing nuggets (because I was at work obviously) so I just bought the entire course. I have been doing the exercises at my pace and I love it. I had done my Fascination Advantage test before but didn't know how to incorporate them into my business. I am Mystique and Prestige. I thought I had to be loud and showy as a photographer which does not suite my style. After finding out that Sue Bryce has a Prestige and Mystique advantage (which truly made my day) I now see how I can make those advantages work for me. Tara has taught me so much already. I finally feel confident in my choice to not do wedding, family or boudoir photography. For a long time I felt like those were the only options. But I know now that I can do whatever I want as long as I fill a need and I have a good business model. But most of all I feel focused and confident about the choices I am making as a photographer. This is a feeling I've never felt after taking any other workshops or reading any other self-help books. I am a Tara Gentile fan for life.
