Now we're into the tools section, which is why we have the wrench in there. And we were kind of talking about this in the questions and answers the select folder you could select and create different folders. Will if you create two different folders, you can go in here and select which one of those folders you want. Next up filed numbering. I would leave this on continuous. You can manually reset the numbering of your images normally it's going to go up to ten thousand and it's going to reset a good protocol for all of you. In the long term, you should be re numbering your pictures when you get him into your computer so that you never have duplicating file numbers. Auto rotate. Okay, so normally when you shoot a vertical image, it's going to rotate it on the back of the camera so that you can see it when the camera is held in a normal horizontal position. It's also going to rotate it on the computer. Now I like it rotated on the computer, but I want to see the images biggest possible o...
n the back of the camera. And so turn off the little camera section and so it's just rotating on the computer. The downside is is that you actually have to turn the camera vertically to see the big image but chances are that's how you just shot the image so getting the cameron a vertical positions not a big deal so I would turn it on computer only next up is formatting the memory card if you want to clear the data off of the memory card you can delete all your pictures individually you can delete him as a group but the better system if you know that all your pictures are downloaded and safely on their hard drives and backed up you go in and you form at the card and this cleans the card off I say it's like cleaning with clorox it really scrubs all the directories deletes all the pictures so that you have a nice clean communication one of the first things you want to do when you get a new memory card is to form at the memory card ifyou're a cannon user and you're just bought a used memory card from your buddy who shoots a nikon you definitely want to form at the memory card and is intensive as I have made that sound fact of the matter is is that there is rescue software that can rescue images even after the card has been formatted the you'll never get your pictures back is when you format your card and then you shoot the card full of new images again you'll never get back that first layer because all that information has been written over you probably won't see this is you're going through your camera, but there is something called I fi cards, which are related to a wifi card. What these do is you can go out to pictures anywhere you want, you bring the camera back near your computer and it will automatically download to your computer or if you're shooting nearby your computer, it'll automatically download the images from your camera to your computer automatically. Now this camera has its own wifi system that we'll talk about it a little bit, but this is another way that you could use this in your camera if you want to. Next up, we have how soon you want the camera to power off, and so in this case one minute is the pretty standard amount of time I think that's fine how bright the screen is on back you can adjust that if you need to and the shutter button when you press down the shutter button, it turns off the light in the back of the camera the quick screen, which is usually pretty good cause you generally don't want a bright light in your face right where that screen is when you're looking through the viewfinder and folks, we have a test coming up right now for me because when I designed this class I was asking myself exactly what day and what time will I reach this point of the class? And so this is the date and time in your camera, and I had to throw in. I guessed it was going to be thirteen eleven, so how far off am I? It is one, thirteen thirty, so I have eight minutes off. Yeah, well, I knew what day I was going to do the class with question was, what time do we take our breaks? What time do we go through lodge, which I do? I actually hit this slide here so that's the date that we're recording the show in case you're wondering, ok, so obviously you're going to go in here and change the date and time according to your look, settees be aware that this is not wifi enabled, it is potentially gps enabled, where it would pull up the date off of the gps, but normally it doesn't just pick up the dates. So is you travel to new time zones or you go through daylight savings time? You need to change this. If you see this in your camera, you're in big problems because this is cling on and you do not want cling on in your camera, that would be a very special cameras, so obviously you adjust language to the year choice of language next up gps. We're not gonna get too much into this. Now. There is an external gps unit that you could get, which would make really much sense at all on this camera because the camera has a built in gps, but there is a gp, too, that you could by that you can use on other cameras that might get to a better signal in here. But you can go in and adjust the gps settings on this camera to control the day off, and it turns on and some of the other settings controlling the g p s one of the things that you could go in. I was just talking with jared platt yesterday, and he was asking about the gps, and I'm thinking, well, it kind of drains the battery, and he was saying what would be nice if it wasn't pinging the satellites all the time? Well, you can go in here, jarod, and you can adjust how often it's pinging the satellites for its location anywhere from every second to every five minutes, so you'll need to play around with that. If you're really into the gps and how accurate you need it to me, do you need it to be to the meter accurate or something in the general hundred yards, depending on how faster moving around? So for those of you with the gps, get in there and play around with some of those settings using it. It's kind of nice, especially with the program like light room, because it's going to show you your exact coordinates. It's going to show you on a map. The location you are, your elevation and so it's it's. A nice little feature. Tohave. I would like it on all my pictures. My current camera. Most my current cameras don't have it, but it does eat up battery power quite a bit for what it does, it's. Not just an inconsequential little thing to turn on. It's gonna have a noticeable impact on your pictures. So you need to make a decision as to whether that's something that you really want to address with extra batteries. If you're going to use it a lot, I would highly recommend lots of extra batteries. At least three total batteries. Okay, moving on. The third tab in the tool section is going into the video system. And so different countries have different video systems here in north america. We have the ntsc in europe and many other places they use, pal. So appropriate for your country. The feature guide is this little helpful hints that come upto tell you what you're doing. Once you get to know this camera, you're gonna want to disable it. Maybe for the first month or two while you own it, you can leave it enabled and it's gonna help you learn your camera. But just to speed through the process, I would disable this for the more advanced users. Remember that info button on the back of the camera? Well, which one of these three screens do you want to see? I like all three of them there's reasons why I might want any one of them. So I leave him all checked off, and it just depends on how many times I pressed the info button, which one's it cycles through. And I think this is where we're going to stop and take our break because we got wifi coming up next, and I definitely need to get prepped for that one. Take any questions? You're great when we have a handful of questions. Actually, about the f I cards with the effect cards. Does anything keep your photos from downloading to someone? Else's computer? Well, I have not used the ai fi cards myself now, but I would assume that there is a password and you have to have the right software on the computer to download it. And it has to be matched with the camera so I just can't imagine that anyone with the nearby computer's gonna be ableto pull up your your information cool and then would you imagine it would work with raw files as well and j it would and that kind of brings up the other thought of its not really fast so if you're thinking about it for speed it may be faster to physically plug your card into your computer for convenience it might be nice to have but it it should work with both to the best of my knowledge where was the what can you remind us where the I five menu was again? It won't show up unless there is a knife I hard in there but I believe it is under the tools first tab great well we have a lot of questions just kind of comparing apples, apples, oranges the camera from camera to camera photographic elements asked I love the wifi capabilities of the sixteen I'm sure there's a slide for that how does it compare in quality to the five d mark? Three is studio work the only area it differs? What about events? Weddings, etcetera? Well the mega pixels is virtually the same it's twenty versus twenty to which is it's not in the photographic world it's it's virtually exactly the same and there's been tests and there's very, very subtle differences it's about the same image qualities the five d mark three where it gets to be a difference is in the performance of the camera frames per second four and a half versus six frames per second eleven focusing points versus sixty one focusing points obviously a lot more on five mark three and then there's a number of other little things that you get in there there's more controls on multiple exposures there's more controls on hdr on this camera hdr you have to shoot j peg with the five day mark three you can shoot hd ours in raw files and so there's all these little things that might start adding up the video footage from five mark three has been noticed tio to experience less moray then this one so the image quality from the mark three video is a little bit higher quality then this so there's a lot of little subtle issues and you really have to look at those issues to see how important they are to what you do in photography. Do you happen to know if the cable release the shutter release for the seventy is similar to the sixty it's the same option? It's the exact same clarion decided camera perfect use that should release and crawl. So is there a noticeable difference and shutter sound when taking pictures between the sixty and the fact the mark too that you've noticed uh, not a significant sound. Each camera kind of has its own little resonance. If you think of it as a musical instrument. And to be honest with you, I got very used to the five demark, too, and I am still trying to get used to the five d mark. Three. It has a different sound. It sounds closer to the five, the mark three than it does five d mark, too.

There’s a saying in golf that it’s the swing, not the club, that counts. I’ve found that true in photography, where the most artistic photographer I know uses a Canon Rebel and an old film camera. His stuff wins awards and gets chosen for big exhibits. As recently as this past summer (2017) he told me he MIGHT upgrade to the camera this course covers, the 6D. Not the newer 6D Mark II — this one. If he gets it, I hope he takes this course. Is this course relevant in 2018, six years after the camera came out? To me, it is. I’ve read the hype about newer cameras — and they sound great — but I like the idea of seeing if I can do more with the 6D in my bag. And this course has already helped with that, really explaining the options and techniques for focusing, techniques I’ve started using and that have impacted how I composed some shots. The teacher, John Greengo, is the guy I’d want to meet behind the counter at a camera store. He knows the camera inside-out and upside-down. In this five-hour class, he takes you through every button, dial, and menu option — judiciously skimming past things less likely to be useful and focusing time on the key stuff. He’s a smart teacher and this is a smart class. Other examples of things he spent time on that caught my attention: How to adjust this camera and shoot remotely with an iPhone. How to use "mirror lockup" to keep the camera still at slow shutter speeds. How to update firmware. If you another camera and John Greengo offers a Fast Start course for it, my guess is you’ll find it worth your time.

This was an awesome class. This helped me so much in learning my camera better. I am so impressed with all of John Greengo's classes. His level of detail in going over the functions of equipment and cameras is so awesome.... he always gives the best UNBIASED information.

John's style is fun, personable and professional. While I've used the 6D for a short while, it was comforting to learn a few tricks and short cuts. Also the preferred settings information was useful. Feel more confident that I will get better shots and be able to make adjustments more quickly. Don't expect any tips on situational shooting; lighting, composition etc. This is an in depth look at the 6D options, set-up, preferences and nice explanations for the choices. John's presentation was easy to understand, well paced and arranged with excellent graphics. One thing that may have been missing... the C1, C2, C3 set-up. This is a little different than the 7D. Recommended.
