Creating a Text Layer
let's go in and add the label or the name of the product to go back to the material. We're gonna go back into the diffuse texture here, and we're going to set some text. So I'm going here, set a text layer, just It's just plain nutty, right? Do that and scale it down a little bit. I'm going use that fund. That's really kind of a happy accident, cause that was actually the phone I was going to use. How about that? So this is actually a type kit Fun. It's available from from Creative Cloud. You just go to the tight menu and right here at the top, You see, add funds from type kit, massive library of funds available if you're a creative cloud member and you could just sink them right to your to your creative cloud, APS and I use them right away. So it's gonna massive library of funds available. So So with that, um is going to take this and just rotated a little bit, make it a little bit more interesting and even skew it just a hair. I'm just right clicking or or or control clicking on it, ...
just scaling it to fit their and so that, like me, a little bit more commercial. Look to the text there. There we go. So that looks pretty good. But I wanna dress it up with some lair styling. So gonna go into the layer style menu here in the layers panel and let's start Well, actually, no. Let's start with a different base color. I'm actually gonna give it a read based color here on the text. There we go. So when a double click on the layer, actually, no, let's go to the end, go to the little layer style menu. I lost a little. I lost the word there for a second. All right, we're going to start with a stroke. It's gonna set the stroke signs just a little bit larger. And let's set it to the outside of the text. Gonna go pretty big on it. So when it really just kind of almost like it, it's encompassed inside of a giant shapes and like at like that. Then, uh, in that same vein, noticed you got a plus sign next to a handful of the available layer styles here. This means you can add multiple instances of a layer style to A to an image or to a single layer. So I want to add a second stroke to this and I go and hit the plus sign here and the second stroke, I'm gonna make it white, and I'm gonna make it a little bit smaller. And that's gonna give me a really cool double stroke effect on the text here, all contained in one layer. It's all one layer style. So even you even if you go and read, type something on the text, it will update and maintain that. But why stop there? Let's add a Grady and overlay. Do a simple black to white Grady int here and let's change the blend mode to overlay. Give it a little bit of a fade. There. You can actually change the rotation of it as well. And perhaps a drop shadows ad. Bit of a dark Oh, no, not yellow. There we go. Dark drop shadow and drop shadows. You can actually manually reposition. So I just click on the image itself and move it down here a little bit. It's increased the size and the opacity a little bit. We give a little bit more dimension, actually said this to multiply. There we go. So, having that, I think I want to go in and then dial down the sickness of the black stroke. It's a little bit more. There we go and maybe one add a little bit of like a light glare to it will add a bevel in Boss, and it's actually using the When I used before. So what this is you'll see. It's just a simple inter bevel set to smooth with a very large death here. And then I've got the angle very close to the center. If you go out to the further edge here, you'll get a little bit more of, ah, regular beveling. But getting really close turns it into of a more of a speculum highlight on the edge of that text there, presenting a little bit more dimension to it. So we're almost getting three D text in a three d object. Its three d inception. How many more levels deep can we go? So that looks really cool there. So All right, so I'm going click OK, and let's see how it looks on the object. Someone click Save on this and there it is. So I can see right off the bat, it's a little big, so go back in there and adjust it. But as I move it around, it's the lights. Reacting to it is very much the way you'd expect. It looks like a riel commercial package, so you can put together some really cool stuff here. So I think I'm gonna go go in there and adjust the size of that element there now and again. All this is edible. Still to this point, even though we've got what looks like a really complex three D object, we can go back and modify anything we've done so far. Everything is on its own layer. And if I really wanted to, you know, change the text, maybe we wanted to be just plain nutty now that I like. But the point is, you definitely have the freedom to go in there and modify the text even within the texture of this three d object here. But I do want to scale that text down a little bit. So this kind of do a universal scale down here, so that looks good. So there we go. So now it's moving around again, see, so you can see the back. Nothing to it. We're not going to see the back, so I'm not. I'm not worried about that, but I will point this out. You notice the little bit of roughness on the edge of that reflection that you see that is generated by what's called a normal map. If I go into the material and right down here at the bottom of the materials panel here in the Properties panel, you'll see this is a normal setting right here. This is something that's added to the three D object originally when was originally developed and brought into Adobe stock going here and choose that it texture. You'll see that it's got this unique color to it now what a normal map is. It's essentially like a bump map. It creates a texture on the surface of the three D object, but it it doesn't in a way that it's it's affected by any direction of light. You can actually go in and adjust it. You can actually apply your own custom normal map as well, but I just want to point out I actually like it. I'm gonna leave it on there. But I do want to point out if you wanted this package to be really ultra smooth surface and you can simply go in here and remove that normal map and now you'll see that you've got a normal, clean edged reflection going on there. So if you really wanted to have that, that look, that that's how you would adjust that so But I'm gonna go ahead and undo that reestablish because I actually do like the normal.

Valuable for going deeper into using 3D tools, the course had a great amount of info on using the 3D tool panels & manipulating lighting, modeling materials, merging elements together in 3D space, creating your own lighting & materials as well as trouble-shooting tips. Really helped me feel less intimidated as a newcomer to 3D.
