Class Introduction
Thank you. Thank you very much for having me. And I feel like this is the cuppa de la vora one. And this is gonna be the, the big one. Hi. Hi everyone. So glad to be back. I am a print finisher. I think I should talk about this for those at home who maybe don't know who I am. My name is Lisa Carney. I am a digital print finisher, primarily in the entertainment ad agency world. So this is, this subject's near and dear to my heart. I love doing movie posters. I will tell you, I was actually a photographer and I wanted to switch careers. And I used to work near this agency that did posters. And I kept walking by and kept walking by. "Aw, I really wanna do this." And I went in and I finally started working in this industry. So, I'm gonna share some of the voodoo that we do. I'm very excited to do that. I do wanna talk a little bit about how I'm gonna unpack this kinda stuff. We're not gonna take a look and go start to finish throughout the whole thing. What I'm gonna do, especially 'cause ...
its kind of a short class, it's only a hour and a half, is, I'm going to give you little tasters on how to do some effects. And hopefully, you'll be able to take this information into your own work and do your own thing. And on that note, I wanted to talk about finding inspiration. And finding, I don't really wanna say things to copy, but projects where you could take these techniques and practice so that it's in your wheelhouse. And then when you have a job, you can just pull it out and use it. Because I think sometimes when you're on a job and on a deadline, this kind of stuff's really hard to pull out at the ninth hour. This is a better thing to do when you have some free time and exploration time. So, on that note, there is a site called IMP Awards. It's impawards.com and it's basically where you find all sorts, or every entertainment art print piece that's been done for decades. In fact, I'm looking and here, there's like 4 of mine in here. This happens to be for company called Gravillis, this one window. And I work for them often in the industry. Anyways, please check it out. IMP Awards's a great place to get inspiration and ideas so that you can try some of these effects. So what we're gonna try out today, or look at. Color grading, which is really important that's why I start with it. I feel like when you look, when you look at cinematic work, it's really the color that is kind of the big "Oh" that gets your attention. We're gonna talk about doing some distressed looks and I'm gonna talk about some different ways of doing your textures, to make it fast, so you don't have to mask. Adding atmosphere, flares, fires, and glows, cause, right? You're doing a movie poster, you need some flares, fires, and glows. Doing some under water looks, illustration looks, talking about having some libraries for yourself, some effects, and then the dreaded plug-ins. Now, I'd like to start off the bet talking about the plug-ins cause they do get complaints about this. I'm presenting this as if you guys are gonna work in this industry and, or some industry and you're gonna get paid. Some of this stuff, I'll show, we'll show you cost money. I know people complain, "Oh, we have to pay more money?" Look, if you don't wanna buy stuff, don't. It's all cool. For those who wanna do this and get paid and charge that was gonna be the another option. I'll show you both ways, okay? I promise.

Watching Lisa work her creative magic is so fun! This was such an incredible class, I can't wait to watch it over and over again while I practice using the tools and techniques that are covered. It's enough to make me want to move away from portrait work and into creative commercial art. Such an awesome class!

Lisa is a great teacher! She does move quickly, but I have found her instruction to be very precise, and focus. So I think the time she spends on each topic is very efficient, and thoroughly covered. I love her teaching style. Thank for for another great course Lisa!

There are so many ways to accomplish the same thing in Photoshop. But I always love to learn new ways. This is a great class if you are already comfortable with Photoshop. It is not a beginner class.
