How To Choose The Right Gear For Your Budget

So in our last lesson we talked about camera angle lighting and virtual backgrounds. Now let's talk about what gear do I need and how to choose that. So I would say before we get into the gear here you see on the table, let's talk about one thing. What goal are you trying to achieve and what do we need to get you to that goal? In some cases the camera and microphone that comes with your laptop is suffice. Maybe you're a sales leader or a representative and you want to use it just to communicate. But in some cases you might say on the camera side and start there, what if I want a little better give me an idea what I can get if I spend 50 to $100 or you might say you know what image is very important to me. I want to go to $200 or maybe higher. So let's look at that. So in that range you might start with a camera like this, This is your typical webcam, This is a an off brand camera here and it's about $75. And it's gonna give you a really good image and you can mount it right to the top...

of your computer. So any of your typical webcams that you can find at your local store Any typical cameras like the one I just showed you will give you that better image consistently for that. You know 50 to $100 range. Let's say you want to talk about. Well you know what I'm on camera a lot. I really want to be consistent. I want lighting to be good. I want to go to that next level. What do you have? Well, there are several brands out there that offer a camera about this size that changed things like class lenses, which brings that sharpness to the quality and you'll spend around 1 50 to 203 $100 for this camera as well as this camera you might say, well this is smaller pat, why is that one as expensive? And it's a great question. And the reason this one's expensive, Let's say you're a creator and you want to move around your studio. Let's say you teach dance or yoga. This camera will follow you around the studio without touch of a button. So if I get up to demonstrate something, the camera's gonna track my movement in the room. So again at that 12, $300 range, very small. Easy to travel with allows you to turn on or off the camera tracking as well as retain that, that quality. And then lastly your next bracket And you can say, you know what it's very important to me. I'm a photographer. I'm a videographer. I want my picture on zoom to equal the quality of output I put on my product. And so you might upgrade to a more professional camera. A lot of people use wireless cameras or cameras like this that might range from 5 $600 to a couple of $ depending on the lenses that you put on it. So in this case here I use this camera every day in my studio, it's got a 12 millimeter lens on it and it's about a $1200 camera. So again, not one is better than the other for the point of delivering images on your zoom call. What's different is the results it gives you based on how important a video quality images to you. Same thing on the audio side. In some cases, the microphone built into my computer is fine. Maybe a set of earbuds or headsets will be fine. But if I'm in a larger space in office, I might want to upgrade my microphone a little bit to give me a more clear sound and maybe even start to remove some of the background noise. And again, the same thing in the $5200 range. Maybe something as simple as a road microphone here. You see names on it or equivalent might be an additional plug into the headphone jack to give you a better audio quality. A lot of podcasters, video podcasters will upgrade to a microphone like this or like this, which are equal in value about the one, the $300 range but they have settings on them that allow you to control the scope of the space, the audio is being picked up on in and the amount of background noise it takes out. So again, depending on your goal, if it's a one on one consulting meeting, maybe the microphone right here in this computer is enough. Maybe you want to upgrade and try out accordingly. But most importantly, I would always start with what am I trying to achieve and what equipment do I need to get there and we like to call it the rock, what you got mentality, perhaps a mix of both, Maybe the cameras sufficient, but I want to upgrade the microphone. So don't think you need to jump all in and spend a lot of money to get the best picture quality, spend the money, you need to get the results that you desire.
