1 We've talked a lot about masking, 2 and now we're going to talk about using those masks 3 and the AI capabilities of the masks in order to create 4 what we call 5 adaptive presets. 6 They are game changers. 7 So if you thought it was cool to be able to create a mask 8 and tell it to smooth skin 9 and then apply that mask to a whole bunch 10 of different images, now it's even going to get cooler. 11 So get ready, 'cause this is going to blow you away. 12 This is awesome, and you're going to be able to do this 13 by the end of this lesson, 14 you're going to be able to do this yourself. 15 And I'll even include some of my AI presets, 16 my adaptive presets 17 in this class. 18 So if you've purchased the class, 19 you have access to those as well. 20 So you're welcome. 21 Here we go. 22 So I've got a portrait here 23 and we all know that we're going to go to our, 24 we're going to go to the mask area. 25 And in the mask area, we're going to choose a person. 26 So person number one. 27...

And we click on person number one, 28 and it's going to give us the options 29 that we already discussed. 30 I'm going to choose 31 facial skin, body skin, and lips. 32 Those are the things that I want to smooth out. 33 So you can see a little bit of her hand was chosen 34 and then her face and her lips. 35 And I'm going to hit "create". 36 So now I have a mask. 37 The first thing I want to do is go up to that mask, 38 click on the triple dot button and rename it. 39 And I'm just going to call this 40 "skin". 41 Yeah, just skin, all right. 42 Hit "enter". 43 So now I have a mask called "skin". 44 Once I have that mask, I'm going to do something with it. 45 And I'm not going to do anything with the light area. 46 All I'm doing is going down into the effects. 47 And I'm going to zoom in so that we can see our effect on, 48 on the skin, and I'm going to go to the texture 49 and bring it down. 50 See that? 51 There we go, nice and smooth. 52 Let's go to like 53 38. 54 So I've got the skin smoothed. 55 I'm going to go up to the light area 56 and just bring the contrast down just a little bit. 57 That always helps to make skin look a little nicer. 58 So if I just bring this contrast down, 59 like negative 10 is great, that's another option. 60 Then the other thing that I can do is go into the 61 detail, 62 and I can take sharpness down just 63 a little bit as well. 64 So if I takes sharpness down as well, it gets rid 65 of pores and stuff like that. 66 So it smooths out the skin nicely as well. 67 And the last thing I can do is go into the noise reduction 68 and add a little noise reduction, 69 just a slight amount of noise reduction. 70 All of those things allow the skin to look much more smooth. 71 So we're not just going to go into texture and remove it. 72 We go negative texture, 73 negative contrast, 74 positive on the noise reduction, and negative on 75 the contrast. 76 Did I say that, contrast already? 77 Anyway, so that's what we're doing is contrast, texture, 78 noise reduction, and sharpness. 79 All of those get affected. 80 And once we have that, 81 we have really beautiful, smooth skin. 82 That's it. 83 Turn off the mask. 84 I've got that. 85 Now, instead of trying to copy this 86 and apply it to all of these other images, 87 what I want to do is save it for future use. 88 So I'm going to go to the preset area. 89 And the preset area is up at the top right hand corner. 90 So right above all the adjustments is the preset area. 91 So if I click on "preset", it opens up all of these presets, 92 all of the different presets that I have available. 93 And I sell these on my website at jaredplatt.com. 94 I'm going to give you a group of presets. 95 So you're welcome, you're going to have a bunch of presets 96 and some 97 really cool 98 profiles. 99 So presets, profiles, you're going to have a little, 100 you're going to have like a group of them, 101 and I will show you in a minute how to install them. 102 But this is where they will end up being. 103 Now I'm going to create a preset right now. 104 So let's do this together. 105 Either take notes or follow along and do this yourself. 106 So now we're going to create this preset. 107 And the way we're going to do it 108 is we're going to go up here 109 to this little plus button, click on plus, 110 and we're going to name our preset, we'll call it "smooth 111 skin 112 master", 113 the Master of 114 Smoothing Skin. 115 So smooth skin master. 116 And I'm just going to put this in user presets so 117 that we can find it really easily. 118 And then I'm going to go up to "select", "none", 119 turn 'em all off. 120 Now we're going to go to our masking, 121 drop that down and choose "skin". 122 So we're choosing just the one, 123 and you might have like multiple masks on an image. 124 You just have to choose the one that you want to create the 125 adaptive preset for. 126 So skin, that's the only one we're doing. 127 And then we're going to, again, 128 we're putting it in the group "user presets". 129 The name is "smooth skin master", 130 and we're going to hit "save". 131 There we go. 132 So now I have in my user presets, 133 I've got one called "smooth skin master" right there. 134 So now if I go to say this image here, 135 and let me double check and make sure we don't have, oh, 136 we already have some presets or some masks on that one. 137 So let me go to a different one. 138 Let's go to this one. 139 Okay. 140 It's a completely different image. 141 Let me just delete all of these masks. 142 And the reason I deleted all the masks is so 143 that you can't accuse me 144 of already having the masks on there. 145 So if I go to this image and I go to the preset area 146 and I click on "smooth skin master", "done". 147 See that? 148 It just smoothed the skin, and now I can change the amount. 149 So I can go down to zero, 150 see how her skin got a little bit rougher, 151 or I can go up to a hundred percent, it's a little smoother, 152 but if I really want to, she's closer, 153 the light's a little different, 154 so maybe she needs a little more smoothing. 155 I can go to 200% and look, boom, she looks gorgeous. 156 That's great. 157 So done. 158 And I can do that to any image. 159 So I'm going to go to say this image here, 160 that one doesn't have the light on it. 161 So let's go to 162 this image, and I can click on my preset, 163 "smooth skin master", 164 "done", zoom in, take a look at it. 165 It's a little too much on that, 166 so I'm going to pull it out. 167 There, that looks better. 168 So I only had to do 29% on that one. 169 And then I'm going to go to say this one. 170 Let's double check and see if we have any 171 masks already on here. 172 Oh, we do. 173 So let's delete these, delete all masks. 174 And now I'm going to zoom in. 175 That's what her skin looks like without help. 176 And then I'm going to do "smooth skin master" 177 and boom, look at that. 178 Awesome. 179 One time, all you have to do is create a mask, 180 and create the rules of that mask as to what you want it 181 to do, whether it's you want it to 182 smooth skin, or whether you want to create some kind of 183 a sky effect. 184 And then once you have the rules to that mask, 185 just make a preset and use the mask as the preset. 186 From then on out, the AI will find whatever it is 187 that you were looking for, 188 whether it's skin on a person or whether it's a sky. 189 And then it's going to create that effect just like that 190 on any image that you apply it to. 191 Sometimes you'll, little trial and error, 192 you'll find out certain things don't work, 193 other things do work. 194 But generally finding skin, super easy. 195 And if you want, if you want to do this where it's actually 196 choosing multiple people, then make sure you open up a image 197 that has multiple people. 198 And instead of choosing a person, choose all people. 199 There's an option for all people. 200 Once you've chosen all people, choose their skin, 201 and then create the preset. 202 And then from then on out, if there's five people 203 or 12 people, it'll choose all people. 204 It'll choose all their skin, it'll smooth all their skin. 205 Then what you can do is if you say there's a 206 man in there that you don't want to smooth his skin, 207 that's fine. 208 You can just go in and add a subtract and brush out 209 any person you don't want to smooth their skin, done. 210 So that is an incredible tool. 211 That's how you create a preset on your own. 212 And next, we'll show you how to install presets 213 that you've purchased or downloaded or shared with a friend.

Great job, Jared! You have delivered a master class for anyone beginning a journey into Lightroom, presented in absolutely clear and relaxed style. And for those with more experience with the program, every old dog can learn a few more new tricks. Teaching software is tough. Jared does it by breaking down each function and including not only the what, but the how and why as well. And each step is amplified by crystal clear photos which are manipulated with the function at hand. Bring a pad of paper, some snacks, and a cup (or two) of coffee. He is relentless in his presentation. You might watch this course as a freebie, but buy it to be able to refer to it for specific steps and processes.
