Prioritize: Do What Matters
We're making your system what we just did we've talked about setting us at a time keeping track of what needs to be done now we're going to talk about doing what matters so yeah you're two thirds of the way of your system I did want to tell you that on page nineteen I gave you the first worksheet help you start keeping track immediately if you you are like I don't know what I'm going to use I don't have a notebook for this you can start on page nineteen and of course if you bought the class you can print out multiples of these it it asked you to break down much friended this week there's a day and then you're most important tasks for the day you can start doing that like tomorrow whether you have the right notebook or the right after you khun started doing it because that's what's going to really help so let's talk about how to do what matters now wave mentioned this a couple times because this is really the heart of the issue is to do what matters you're going to prioritize your going...
to prioritize all that you could dio into what you're going to dio and that's what that weekly and daily review is going tio that's what you're doing there you're prioritizing what's the most important things they're a couple ways to prioritize student sometimes ask me I don't know I don't know I don't know what's important I don't know what I should do uh too big of a list so a couple solutions and one is to prioritize based on values and to figure that out ask what matters most to you. What do you value? What do you most want to experience or do in your business or life? If you're looking at your giant list of all the things that you think you want to dio in your business, ask yourself if I was going to prioritize based on what matters most to me in my business or life, what would I choose? What of these things are going to move me toward? That doesn't make sense and there are questions about this on may twenty you can actually write this out and I ask you so you can ask yourself, what are you the things that you value and your business or life? And then how can you use that to help you prioritize? And then based on those values that are the three most important things for you to do in your business this week? Now the second thing is actually how we started the class, which is to talk about prioritizing based on goals, so if you have set a sales goal and that is the most you're prioritizing that above all other things you could possibly be doing in your business then you can prioritize your tasks for each week in each day based on what's going to move me closer to that field goal and we talked about things that will move you forward the production side of things and then marketing having a marketing plan and implementing it and making enough things in listing them. So when you prioritize based on goals you asked, where are you going and what's next for your business and it might be that your goals and your values are like exactly in line and all your questions with the same and that's fine I just wanted to give you other ways of thinking about prioritization so I asked in the middle of page twenty what's your next goal in three to six months what can you do in the next month to move closer to that goal based on the goal? What are the three most important task you could dio this week that are specifically related to the goal that mattered most to you? So if ever you are just completely overwhelmed by all that you could do ask yourself these questions how what what are the three most important task based on my values were the three most important task based on my goals then you could also part or ties based on schedule so we worked out your production schedule how many things you need to make each week if you finish that puzzle piecing we were doing you will know how many items you need to make each week to reach our sales goal and you have it on your schedule I'm gonna make three of these and four of these each week you can prioritize based on that you can say that's okay that's my priorities that's what I'm working on forget everything else I'm going to focus on that production to reach that goal s so you should be through working through page twenty and your workbook and then I want to ask you guys currently how are you prioritizing or when you're done and you go and you put and your your your new getting we're done system how will you be prioritizing what are you moving to the top of your this is what I'm doing this week based on what you wanna go uh well ironically, um I actually put my health above everything because that that really is a huge part of me being able to complete tests of my business. I don't know if it's age or overwhelmed I don't know, you know I can't be up until four in the morning and then wake up at seven and I just yeah do it any more so so yes that coloring book was up there and some other projects were up there but I did put health at the top and I think very specifically because there is so little time, I just put the one task of having, like, the healthiest, most incredible smoothie in the morning just to start today. I love that, but it's so good it's, you know, I should also sleep, but I get eight hours of sleep at least no, no, but no that's because it really does affect it affects my mental stay, it affects how much I can get down my focus, so that actually is a big business priority. I love that. So each day you could, you would start if I'm only going to do three things today number one thing have a smoothie, yeah, like and and that if you get in the habit of doing that, it would be so easy for you to add anything else healthy like maybe go to bed an hour earlier or sleep in later, I don't know if that's not being right, but there are other healthy things you could add to that list, and then so we keep talking about when you get to the end of your day feeling good. If you've had your smoothie and you've done two other, you would feel awesome you'd be like, hey, that was and that's a way of anything you want to add to your life, whether it's like health or its career or relationships by prioritizing them going to make sure that you're not only spending the time but then you celebrate spending that time which perpetuates you're doing it more and more so what you guys or the chat room how they're prioritizing okay now's a good time for this this question from maxie that has several votes on it the question is you know we're talking about prioritizing what do you do essentially what do yu dio when things keep falling to the bottom of the list keep falling to the bottom of the list difficult question falling to the bottom of the list things that you don't ever feel like doing and uh yeah and so that's a good that's a good like leading question because you said things that you don't ever feel like doing so I would ask is why is it falling to the bottom of the list? Is that it's not important if you identify your three most important things each day and it never makes the cut get rid of it like ninety nine percent of the things we have on our list that we don't do and aren't important you don't need to dio unless it's like feature kid but that would that would obviously be a priority it would be a top so uh if it's falling to the bottom because you don't feel like it then the question is is it important or is it is it something that you picked up because it's a should somebody said you should do this and so you added it to your list but it's not important your goals it's not important to your values, it's not as part of your life production schedule it's just not and you don't feel like doing it than market off. I mean, unless it's something to do with taking care of someone, you can probably mark it off, and so I get pushed back with us a lot, and people ask me what I have to do this like I can't have a successful business, so in sum has a successful business, and she said that that was the whole reason why? But ask yourself if that's how you're gonna have a successful business and you don't want to do it, then will the resulting business be successful for you? If you're forcing yourself to do these things you hate doing, you are not going to like the resulting business because it's going to require you to keep doing those things you hate doing. So there are a lot of different ways of growing a business and just because something work for someone else that does not have to be on your list and I loved to hear her follow up if she wants to share what exactly will give her a couple minutes, yeah, she actually okay, so wait. But if it is important is important to all of those things that you checked. How can you get it done with about twenty different questions? Things, things that I think maxie created something interesting that was putting putting brackets to show the number of times that it was kept being put off and not mating. Yeah, made that priority left list, but still not doing it so well. So then I want her to take this my challenge for her, and I wanted to dig deep and ask yourself if it checks all the boxes. It's your priorities for everything wired she doing at the very first time you sit down to work. It could be that it's actually a project and not a task. So break it up in the tasks it could be, uh, that you're just scared of it. In which case try it, do it there's very likely going to be no bad consequences or consequences might seem bad like you get rejected or it doesn't work out and still not bad consequences because you at least have done it when you say, how do you actually do it? If you have a scheduled work time, you know that this is what matters, then you just do it and you do it first. You don't check email you, don't go on twitter, you don't run into him, you don't want to create a live, you go and you do it. And every once in a while they come up in the starship chat. Someone, I put off something for three weeks, and we all just shout at them with our caps. Go do it now! It's happened, and jane, just not too long ago. We said, go do it now, don't come back until it's done, because many things you can just do that quickly, it's, just that you keep putting it off. I could do this instead, and then any mail comes and that's more interesting, so go into it and make sure if it's a project, you break it down into a doable task. Just do the first task.

A really great class. As a newer creative business owner I have had trouble with always feeling like no matter what I worked on it wasn't the right thing or it wasn't enough. I think the advice in this class will help me feel better about my accomplishments and keep me focused on the things that will help my business. Thanks!

I loved it! start to finish really packed full of sensible easy to follow advice - great workbook and extra materials. Highly recommended. Tara does continually mention STARSHIP and MAPPING with out any background info on these topics which began to niggle at me but guess the answers are on her website. This was my first full class after purchasing my Creator Pass and it gets a 10/10
