Introduction to Amplitube
We'll look at a program called amplitude like I said, it was made by I came multimedia, so we're gonna pull this up and what I'm going to first, we've got an awesome guest today, john winters from the band I declare war is a good friend of mine, we've worked together on a number of projects for years, he's going to come up in a second and grab his guitar, and we're going to start building a tone, and you can kind of see how this works before that, though, I just kind of want to walk you through the u s if you could take a look at this when you load up amplitude, this is what you see, I'm just going to give you a quick overview here, and then john is going to come up, we're going to get to work and start making some cool guitar tones so here's the first week first pop it up, you see the screen it's pretty simple, you've got the amplifier got the tone controls on off switch right over here in the lower corner that's, where you can start to switch your amp amplitude comes with a variety o...
f amps that you can use from it also has a whole custom shop online using in app purchases, you could go on, even by more and more amps that they've modeled and be able to create the tones that you want. So as you can see there's, a number of different options sort of separated into categories the first one of the top are all different amps, the ample to abuses all based off of different models. You've got sort of the fender collection, a twin reverb it's based off the sixties blackface twin reverb you've got the orange collection, an angle and, um a couple different options for that. Some of the more high gain amps you gotta soldano head a martial based off of a j c m one hundred andan, of course, some mohr fender based amps for clean tones. And then at the bottom you've got and paige and which is based off in s v t s oh, there's a lot of different options to choose from. I think there's actually twenty six different amps. You can sort of pull up and start to mess with the cool thing. Is that that's just the very beginning. I'm just going to go ahead and switch back to just the standard and right here up top. We've got sort of a floorboard here. This is for your anything before you hit the amplifier. Any it's tom boxes or pedals that you want to use and there's just a ton of stuff you can use everything from distortion line drivers different delay petals, noise, gates, fuzz faces all kinds of stuff active petals on, and you can add up to four different pedals in line before you hit your amplifier. The cool thing to that I love about this is that after that, after your whole line, you also have post effects, which you could drop even a couple mohr types of petals into half your line after the amplifier, which is something that you know, some people do in their lives set up. But you can actually make that here. So that's, sort of the basis of the home screen. Once you switch over to the cabin room, this is something new, an aptitude for two, which is super cool. You can actually mix and match different cabinets with different heads and mix and match different microphones in placements, and it gets pretty advanced. So the lower left hand corner we're going toe pick a different cab, switched to an orange cab here. And, as you can see, now you've got the orange cab and the microphones. You can actually just pick them up and drag and move them to different parts. Of the amp in the upper right hand corner. You also have a grid where you could even move closer and farther away from the amp in three dimensions, as if you're really in the studio on. Like I said, all these air built off of models that they spent, you know, thousands of hours actually creating every single individual model that you're creating here and then the top you can decide what sort of microphones you want to use with your cab to sort of capture that sound. So we're going to start with just your standard s and fifty seven there's, a couple of ribbon mike's based off of her lawyer. Got a all right, twenty four, forty one four, twenty one. All different kinds of different, ample for mike's that you can choose from the mike the cab. And for the second, mike, you can pick a couple condensers. There's a tube condensers. Sort of your blue bottle for forty one. You sixty seven on our royer are one twenty one. Everything that you'd expect in a typical studio to be able to capture. Ah ah, guitar, amp, eh? So what? You kind of get your blend. You can start moving those around on dh that's where the tone really comes from. Ok, so that's the basic setup of the amplifier you've got, like I said, all those different heads, cabinets and microphones to choose from that you can build justus, if you're sitting in the studio that doesn't, it doesn't stop there, which is what I love about amplitude that super cool. You've also got obviously just a tutor that you can use has this cool feature. We're not going to mess around too much today, but you can actually drop in a song from your itunes library and adjust the tempo loop certain sections and learn to play the rift that you're trying to practice with. I remember when I was in high school, I would pull up cds and have to burn out the play and stop button on my cd player trying to learn different riffs something like this makes this so much faster you can load in a song loop, the section that you're trying to figure out and with the guitar tone blended right within the app and sit there in practice. The song that you wanted to learn, um, we're gonna get into this thing to later on today. In just a second, it's called the super looper I mentioned that there's also an app called loopy which is made by a tasty pixel that's a much more advanced version of this but even amplitude has an awesome looper that you can build it and start to create different guitar loops so well kind of mess around with that a little bit um thea the cool thing is that actually has a drummer built right into it so if you want to create a drum group you can actually almost like two tracks easy drummer you consort of drag different grooves into the timeline build your own drum track and then play along with it so amplitude almost becomes like this complete own one studio package you can start to mess around with and start to play and then finally and this is another component we're gonna get into a little bit there's a complete d a w built into ample to before is an add on askew conceit using the microphone right now so it's picking up track one right there for me but you could go through in record up to eight tracks on just like any d a w it actually shows up on the timeline you can drag and edit those tracks, duplicate him, layer them and then there's a number of effects too that you can't even get into azi start toe ad ae q there's a couple aug sen's use some compression and master effects on the master bus we're going to get into all this stuff. And of course, as you get back to the beginning, you can go ahead and save all these as presets. There's also a number of different presets that come with it from a number of different types of sounds or tones that you wanting to start with. Everybody talks about presets, my feeling on presets. It's, a great place to start with, learn what other people have created. Don't expect yourself to sound like exactly what the preset sounds like in the demo or from every you got it from. Learn how to build your own, learn how to start with something on ben, create what you want that fits your playing style so that's pretty much the overview of the app in the right hand corner, you have sort of a number different features and settings that just kind of gets you into you know your account online, adding in different guitar of stuff in their online store in the custom shop, all that kind of stuff.
