Painted Signature Stamps
Okay, so what we're doing is we're prepping things for painting. We're going to use that portrait. I also have a copy of my signature because I mentioned today I'm gonna show you how to do a signature and make it into a paint brush so you can do your signature as part of your painting. Um, I recommend um that if you want to do your signature with riel paint on real paper a real canvas and do it that way if you want teo again depending upon how comfortable you are, especially with your signature, it could be that you know that you just it would take you too long to get comfortable with this. So doing your signature in rial paint on real paper is something you may want to do. Okay, so we've got all these I'm gonna open up all those objects because some of those I may just drag over, run that oil paint filter on just so you get a feel for what some of these things might look like did I put the cat in there too? I think I did. Okay. So before we get into this combining of the well pain fil...
ter and our little hand gestural stuff let's, turn this into a, um stamp that we can use over and over again again using the paintbrush engine to do this first thing I'm gonna do is I've got this on white and I wanted to be a smallest possible I want the the brush to be just the size of my logo I've got extraneous white around here so I could use the crop tool to go ahead and crop the image, but I want to make sure that I don't crop out any subtle edges there could be some subtle brush strokes that I don't really see and there's something in photoshopped that most people don't know is here and that's image trim an image trim has made specifically for webb graphics basically it takes it if you've got a logo with a soft edge drop shadow and you want to crop it when that soft edge drop shadow gets down to one percent percent it's virtually invisible to the human eye and you're going to either be tempted to have a lot more because you don't know what really stops or you're going to accidentally crop into it and all of a sudden when when you crop it and you bring into your website or some other place now it's going to be glaringly obvious where that edge waas so if you go to trim and say based upon neither transparent pixels or in this case top right or bottom right pixel that actually is showing me that there is looks to me like there's some texture so it found there is some texture going all the way out there which is a little disconcerting if we take our our tragic wanda's it's called the magic one which gets a bad rap it's actually not that bad yeah see this is you can see all those little dots there that shows you that it's um was scanned it was a really won and scanned so I could either use a little you know, brightness and contrast here's a little levels on there on this image and uh bring that up or I could hand do it or jim won't work because it actually has some tone to it it came from camera raw there's nothing stopping me from coming up here and taking those highlights up kind of exaggerating that and now let's come up here and do trim yeah centrist trim may on a smart object because it's retaining all that raw information it could be that even though that now it's still got doubts throughout sweden does anyway trim is very very useful especially when you have soft edge imagery and you want to make the images small isas humanly possible without any potential of cutting it off so in this case I will just use that good old fashioned crop and I'll just be a little cautious it's not like I've got a soft edge drop shot or anything on this so I'm going to manually do this here it's a um oversize graphic edit defined brush preset this is all you're gonna need to do we're gonna call it changed the logo okay it tells me my pixel size so I got a reference in terms of well whether it'll have enough pixels for most paintings it does that's five hundred you could make it somewhere between five hundred two thousand penny upon the size of your brushes and I'm now I'm actually done with that I can close that um and if I wanted to hear is that paint will just go ahead and put it here and we'll take a good old fashioned paintbrush paint here's all my little brush tips jack davis paintbrush and it can just selected it it's gonna come in at the default setting I can create it on its own layer right here and here is my logo and I can hold down the option key just like I can for any brush and I can say I want it to be this color and now I have my logo right there and because it's on its own layer I condemn boss it enough I'm going to do it with a painting obviously this is going to go on top of my painting I think I closed that painting before but let's just go that here will choose a lighter color you know, referencing that light purple and there's my painting if that was too much I can use those square bracket keys and use the built in scaling that's why people are using these brush brushes as stamps because you have the ability to easily scale something and uh manipulated we'd have to customize that brush to take advantage of rotation stuff but anyway so that is how to make your own logo corporate logo whatever if you want teo do it as a watermark let's I'll show you is a watermark real quick here I'm gonna put that down there and I'll just mention those layer styles so this is more for your photography so I'm gonna load in one of my, um wow twenty sets of library styles again he's the whole nine hundred of my one click while presets including one hundred page book referencing all nine hundred presets which is patterns, actions, styles um shapes textures is that while creative arts dot com so if you're interested in that I think it's thirty nine dollars it should be three thousand dollars but there you go so I'm gonna upend my halo's air here's all my halo styles so clicking on this right here I can come up here and I can make little um watermarks these or someone bossing ones you can see that these are m bossing my logo or if I come up here there are ones with light background and dark background so here is a pre set that added these different layer styles to it and it instantly kind of did the little halo effect to it okay and you could continue on with layer stiles just to see which one there's a little embossed watermark okay, so that's an example of layer styles the other layer styles will just is if you really want to get creative with you something like jim and I have to see what the pee pee I of this file is it's probably going to be too small for this but um anything about layer styles is layer styles are scalable so you can whether you're doing something that's big or small you khun scale them and this is giving us a nice kind of um joel service may play with layer stiles tomorrow a little bit um when we get into it but that is just a layer style that were adding to our image. Okay, so enough about the signature's basically you bring the image into photoshopped, crop it to its size or selected it. If you did five versions on a piece of paper you can also just select it using the rectangular marty and again at it defined brush pre sent and then you will find it over here in the brush is palate you want to save it right? You don't want to accidentally lose it you spend all that time making it is that where does that live maybe you've got three computers. You want this on your home computer it's on your laptop now how do you get that preset on to another computer? You made a bunch of really cool textures. All these little coffee stains and you want to sell those etc, etc whatever you call it, how do you do that? That's? The thing we mentioned also yesterday had it presets preset manager become two brushes down here at the bottom here's our logo save set that's how you can share your brushes. Anything that you create in photo shop is a preset you'll use this safe set, select more than one here's all my cross hatches and you can share it between multiple computers. If you're in a commercial environment, obviously you've got your corporate logo for the studio. You want everybody in the studio to be able to use that same logo, you have to know how to save it so you can share it with bob and susie so they can instantly used the exact same logo on all of your pieces. If you add, if you create a custom layer style that has the color, the texture, the subtle you know drop shadow on whatever. Then you can tell susie and billy use this brush in this style and your look will look exactly the same no matter who does it

Okay, I'll be first. Jack has an easy, approachable way of teaching. It was more like being in the room with him, watching over his shoulder as he created something utterly new and exciting. Even when he worked on images he had done many times, I never sensed boredom or a lack of enthusiasm. He was patient with questions and answered them completely. I hope Jack enjoyed this way of teaching as much as the world enjoyed watching. Maybe he'll find more to share. I know I'll sign up for his next one. This workshop inspired me to start creating art again. I'm slowly losing my sight and sad to say, I was starting to let it get to me. As I watched Jack, I tried just a few things and realized that I can do this. Digital art is much easier for me than pencil and paper because of the technology. I miss the pencil and paper drawing, of course, but this is so much FUN! The techniques that Jack shared are wonderful and the results rockin' ... or as Jack says, bitchin'. Thank you Jack Davis. Having tried to paint, both in the real and digital worlds, this is the first time I have seen a comprehensive demonstration of the techniques and philosophy for the artist. This course is valuable for any aspiring artist, digital or otherwise. By the way thank you CreativeLIVE for the long form training space you offer both the teachers and students. Jack is inspirational, talented and sometimes funny. Watching him paint in real time is by far the most impressive sight but the information about why is more valuable. Overall this course will give you ideas, knowledge and skills (if you practice). I highly recommend this course for anyone that has tried to paint in the past and was underwhelmed by the results.
