Lesson Info

Indoor Lighting: Adding a Reference Point and Ambience

If you don't have a reference points we're going to create the reference points okay so I'm just gonna put this here now I'm going to put this here now um grab the light now I'm gonna change quite a bit of things I'm going to make the ambiance very quiet and I'm gonna add the mood of the light okay before we do we have anything else let me get a master flash real quick okay this is in group group a no I don't want that life spilling into the window so I'm going to assume the flash had two hundred millimeters or just a beam of light going up okay so flash zoom two hundred millimeters flash a flash, eh? Channel one I'm going to make the power one fourth so it's pretty strong but then I'm going to use my aperture to control how much of that light is coming into the lamp ok, I'm also thinking if this doesn't work to tone down the ambience I'm going to go to high speed sync and make the ambience dropped completely so I'm gonna make my shutter speed like two thousand okay, I'll try it this w...

ay first first I'm going to show the lamp okay see if that comes up here the light the lamp is brighter now now it's a little too crazy right? So I'm going to make the flash a little I'm gonna turn down the aperture too. If I was that f four I'm gonna goto efs. I'm gonna go to a five point six, so I'm gonna cut that life in the lamp just a little bit. Okay, okay, that looks better to me. So they're more realistic than the last picture than okay. Now that lights illuminating came. Now we I asked for another flash with we have another one. Oh, it's over there. Where is it? It's on the ground, you know less. Oh, another wallet out on let's put, uh, soft box or, like just the future's. Fine. We'll use the diffuser to defuse the light real quick. I'm gonna try something. I'm gonna go to high speed think I'm gonna lower that that lights off the sun. Okay, so I'm gonna goto er shutter speed one thousand and now I'm on high speed sync, which means I'm going to put my flash at full power now and you know the wide right because I I just lost a lot of the power. Okay, way have ah, jail. Yeah, orange what I'm doing now is if I haven't orange light illuminating him, then I'm gonna put an orange light actually illuminating him, so when you look at the photo, it looks like the lamp is illuminating him. But it's, not it's, really. Just your flash illuminating him on the lamp becomes the reference point. Okay, so cool do it. We're gonna do if you say, we're gonna go ahead and get real close to him, but not too close to the lamp, like, right here, right here. So you're still gonna shoot from here this way. Okay, so your face is going to turn towards the orange light on if his face turns towards the orange light issue would eventually be orange, but this flash is not affecting him at all, so I have to fake it with this flash. This flash is illuminating him when you look at the pictures and I look like this lamp is illuminating him, okay, strike came and put more power than that. What, what? What's, what's, uh, power, and that one is a group of power, full power. Group a it's a. Yes, I needed to be in group b. Okay, groupie one sixty fourth power. Okay, go ahead and try it again. Okay. Do you mind leaving your body towards the lamp instead? That's it. Okay. I need more power on that flash. Okay, let me try one more. Okay, you get the idea on that one possible tto make that monitor. Okay, take a look at this real quick. You see how that light looks like it's illuminating him? Can you guys see that here? Looks at the lamp is illuminating him on dh it's just it's, a reference point that you created. So so if the reference point is not there, I don't feel like all bomber let's. Just back it up because remember this course. If you don't have a reference point, create one right and see. The lamp is totally illuminated now, and you can see that that lamp is illuminating him. But it's actually not it's. My other flash illuminating him cool.

Im sitting in my office listening to Roberto with my earplugs on and I know I have already left 2 reviews but he's so funny…. my family comes into the office asking me "whats so funny" Roberto makes me laugh out loud with his jokes but at the same time, he is SO great at teaching. Im watching for second time to make sure all his good info is ingrained. HIGHLY recommend you take his workshop on Picture Perfect Lighting if you truly want to take your photography to the next level! WOW thats 3 reviews now…can you tell I am impressed

I'm taking a portrait photography course at NYIP online. one of the mentors there recommended the posing book by Roberto. I ended up ordering at the library the posing and the perfect practice book. I fell in love with both books...ended up buying them and signing up here for the year membership just so I can take all of his photos courses. I spent most of my weekend doing perfect lighting course here I am in love with the way that he teaches! He makes something so difficult and challenging for me make sense. I also like that he challenges us photographers to be true professionals. I am thrilled to have discovered Roberto and already noticed my photography is better in the short time that I've been studying him.
