Spot Clean-Up with Solar Curves
I don't use many actions. This is just against this is not the cars in federal, But this is just a glimpse of what I work with. I work with these kind of actions. I don't really use anything else. Sometimes I do some of that. But this is my main. These are just, you know, I helps mostly used like noise. I mostly used the set up and then I try to do everything without plug ins. But what I mean is like without actions, you know? But still, you have to be efficient. So now we are going to talk about how to create with curves. So finally, we are in cuffs. We are going to be in cuffs, a solar car. That wacky thing I just showed you That's horrible. But it's going to help you. The thing it's going to help you with is that you have I mean, not all the time. If you can see, this is a very well cleaned camera. But even then, I don't know if you can see it on like the one to here. But there are various this dust bought there others, and then some times it's very difficult to, you know, like pinp...
oint these things like it's cleaned up. But then you print it out and, wow, what's that? Or you just forget about them and then you do your retouching, your adjustment and stuff on your adjustments. Make them show up. So that's why it's just so much better to just get rid of them beforehand, right? So that's also good. Helpful tip. I guess I'm going to go back into my help, and I'm just going to delete that so just we can create that from scratch. You don't have to have, like, a help group. You can do it. And in fact, I'm going to get just outside to know, not confuse any What I knew that you guys can keep up with me. But anyone else at home, they are like I don't know. So anyway, what we are going to do since we're working with curves were going to come back to this so many times we are going to need to create an adjustment. Layer curves here, you can see just I'm going to shift it here. You can see we have the white mask means that where where it's white it's just going to show up. What? It's black. It's not going to show up. So now that we have that mosque as white, the whole thing is going to have this. Anything I do in curves applied to it. If I had this like black just to show you the other, you know, state, then you know nothing is going to show up. And then I can go in with brushes. And but this is no masking class, so apply to the whole image. That's thing. Thing is a step by step guide. Now do it. Created curves. And then what? Did you just elevate a bit? This part on that part? Just put it down. This is just something that you kind of just have to do the same. So some of you have computers. Just try it. Why not on any images you have. Andi, can you see these divisions here? This great there are, like, three lines, so we have, like, four like columns. What? What we can do is that grab just by clicking on this line, we are creating a point. And by creating a point, we can drag that point if you we don't let go or if we re click and hold. This is what you have to mimic. What? One up the next. Cut them down the next 10 wow. Up and another one down. And then this is just sort of I'm just going back. This is not precise. I'm just going back to exaggerated more. So we have just a up, down, up, down cups and this Just just look at this. Wow. Have you seen those before? No. Right, So we have these things. What are we going to do with them? We can obviously clean it up in the healing mayor, because the way we have set this up or you are going to take it up, it's coming again. Good. You going to healing and then you do your healing and it's not going to be applied to curves. So what you can do is just retouch under this whole thing because with the healing layer, what you have with the current and below is just getting Teoh apply to the current and below thing. And since the healing layer is selected when I'm healing on the healing layer, it's just going to apply to the current below, and it's just going to sample from the current and below. This is just from the healing panel up on the sample part right, because otherwise if I were to, you know, go with all layers and I'm here on healing layer, let's see, just grab a sample here, you see, because you know it's just grabbing the whole thing that you can actually see. But if I'm setting it on like current and below, what's happening is that I'm it's almost like it's turned off. You know, it's probably very evident for you, but, you know, I like to learn new things. So we have this. This is the solar car, and this helps you get dust sports and also you. Also, This is very cool. I'm just going to show you see, like the skin with this. Can you can you just don't really go into the skin. But if you if you really have some issues, it's going to show you. So this is no layer for you to, you know, retouch skin with. It's more like a layer for like, you know, if you want to spot some problems with the skin, then do it, but then they really do it with that. It's just a tidbit of information we have this solid car created. There is just some tricks that you can do with this. So as I said this classes, cars and photo shop. So let's just do some tricks. Why not? What you can create here is that you can have, like a black and white throne. I know this is not coast, but just a trick like let's grab a black and white, which is just going to turn this black and white, right just to help your eyes. And then what we can do is like again on top of the solid curve created another cars layer. And just to help you see other stuff, you can either, you see, you can see other range. So, for example, in the top right corner I couldn't see that one with a neutral position, right? Is that correct? Right. Great. And if I if I brighten it, then I can see it. And if I darken it, I can see other stuff. What was too bright, Andi, I couldn't see it, right. So but thes things when you're really into writ touching and you're doing it. You're not going to just, you know, stop and let's create a black and white right. Let's create that and see what's going on. You either have these things set up already, or you're not going to bother with this because you know it's not going to show up because it's just so It is just so very, you know, minor school difference between the tones of there. So that's the so like half.

Viktor describes his method of organizing his Photoshop Layers for all the typical edits that he will apply to an edited portrait. He also clearly demonstrates the power of Curves Layers to make tiny, but useful edits to an image. This is definitely a class I will have to watch over and over to be able to take in all the subtleties of his process. On the sample image, each of the individual edits are hardly noticeable, but the cumulative effect is a dramatic improvement in what appeared to be a very good image to begin with. Mostly what I learned about high-end Retouching is that I have a lot to learn!

Loved the class. Viktor teaches the why behind retouching techniques and encourages students to think about the image before applying techniques. One of the best online classes I've taken in a while.
