Class Introduction
I'm Tomayia Colvin and I am a busy little bee. I have two amazing kids, Grace and Ivory. And Grace plays basketball, and she is very much so a social butterfly, like her mom. So she likes to tell me at the last minute that there is a birthday party that she wants to go to, that she has practice. My son, he just likes to watch Fortnite and YouTube videos, so he's pretty simple. But between those two, I am always on the go, so there are times when I am literally sitting in the car rider line, responding to emails, just doing everything, right, trying to keep everything together. And there came a point about two years ago where I started to hate my business. And it wasn't that I hated taking pictures, that wasn't it. I hated the life that I had created for myself. I was so, like, into hustle and grind mode that I was missing the important parts of my children's lives, just like really being present, do you understand what I'm saying? Yeah, so the kids would be like "When are you going to ...
get off the computer?" Or every single time, I couldn't even have dinner with my children without trying to answer a client or trying to check in on social media, trying to do all these multitude of things, and what I found is that I was burned out. And that's the thing that people really don't talk about. Like, people tell you like, grow this amazing business, you'll flourish, you'll have the best life ever. But what people don't tell is that life sometimes will lead you to depression, anxiety, and just really hating the life that you have created. And so, I stepped away from my full-time job, because I wanted to be this full-time mom. I wanted to do the car-rider line, I wanted to go on field trips, although my kids no longer let me go on their field trips. (audience laughs) But I wanted to be able to go to the school, go to the P.T.A., and do all of these things, but I was in such a hustle and grind mode that I was missing all of the important things because I wasn't checked into being involved, I was missing family functions because, you know, when you're photographing weddings, weddings take place, where, on the weekend? When do family functions happen? On the weekend. Yeah, so, now my friends were like, now where are you going to be, and I was like, I have no idea, let me check my calendar. So my goal for 2018 is to be present in the lives of my family, be present in the lives of my children, and be really physically present in the lives of my friends. So if they have something going on, that takes precedence over sending you a gallery, or responding to your email, because I want to be present. Have you all ever been to dinner with someone and they're just like this the whole time? So that was me. I no longer want to do that. So how about you all? Let's start to do something a little bit different. So, in this class, I'm going to show you how to decide what tasks you can actually delegate. How to find the right people for your business. How to effectively communicate with your team. How to find the funds in your budget to afford to pay for help. Because the first thing you say is oh, I can't afford that. Yes you can. And decide what tasks you can delegate. So, let's get started.
