Introduction

So the rial intention behind this is to think to yourself for a little bit what is your more what does more mean to you? And I remember when we first started playing with titles for the book that third subtitle make more had a lot of energy for people and I got accused of being a capitalist of going too far to make the means out of business but really for me it's what is the mohr that's inside that has to come out? And so over these two days I hope that you'll give yourself the gift of your own attention I know and I know those of you watching online your minds are wandering not will wander but they are wandering not only you thinking about where we going in the next five or ten minutes is this information going to be important to me are also wondering about when you're going to make that phone call this afternoon or how your new web sites doing as you're sitting right here through the day I'll keep you in mind as we kind of unpack and unfold these topics of thinking bigger which many ...

of the people in this room and those tuning and have no problem with very easy for us to think of a new idea and then acting on that idea so as we're moving through these couple of days I would like to ask for you too pretend that someone put a cone over you, if you will, and we can spend that that very precious time thinking about what mohr means and the thoughts that you have and the ideas that are circling and get to apply those. So at some point or another, everyone in this room and everyone online saw this screen and you read the overview and you saw the big words right there and you thought, let me try this out for a little and like I was sharing earlier it's really important that we start with this concept of what mohr means. And as I was sharing my wife, jody and I, we've explored this and more to us has less of a traditional meaning or definition, then then I think off the cuff comes across when I think about mme or I think about things like my social network, not my social online media network, but those four or six people that I spend the most time with that I let influence me. Years ago, I realized that my mork could be impacted by what magazines I subscribe to by what books I donated out of my library, and I don't know about you, but it seems like if I make space for something something new always shows up. I mean, just this morning we were playing around with the bookcase behind me here, and I took one book out and before I knew it, someone had put another one in, and that analogy for me is pretty interesting across the world and around the room, if you've ever made it to do list, you know this aspect, so you sit down, you write a bunch of things down that need to get done and sure you'll go through the day and you'll scratch something's off, you'll erase those you'll delete them from that online list and what happens pretty quick, something new shows up, and I've always been a fan of saying I want to something new to be equal or greater in value. And so even as you're sitting here today as those thoughts or showing up about what you're more mean, let's, let that soften and then let the other one come in and they had this little tennis match or debate with one another. My mohr goes well, way beyond that traditional sense of to gather to collect, and I think about the world that I exist in in the background that we all bring to the table so as you were sharing one of my former high school students, which just, uh, that that's awesome, so welcome taught high school for five years and there isn't a day that goes by today where I don't access that experience I don't think about the things that I did during that time to create to create an environment where mohr was possible and I remember searching through and this was kind of at the at the forefront of how technology was about to change education and that mid nineteen nineties late nineteen nineties off whatmore was going to suddenly mean I had never envisioned in my own mind that I could put something on line as kind of ah virtual digital resume of sorts and that that would be a place that people could go and further collaborate together. Aah had no idea that after viewing my resume people would pop other pop to other people's resumes people who are much more than I am but I feel like I'm a part of this community as you are too and then there's the definition of what more means every day and so for me more is is being outside and every year uh it's the fourth friday of september you're all invited by the way we hike the grand canyon from rim to rim it's a twenty five mile one way you started eighty, two hundred feet you drop down to the colorado river at about twenty four hundred feet and then before you know it you're on the south rim on the other side thirteen hours later we took that day and I went back the next day I talked to one of my buddies in two coming back with me to me that's making more and as jodi and I were sharing and in that event we did it together it was a thirteen hour period where I was completely disconnected. I read recently that the average person who has a mobile in their pocket they will check their phone upwards of one hundred fifty times per day. There that's a lot of more right there looking at what time it is what message just came in and not that that's right? Wrong good or bad but is that the more I want to be making? I travel a little bit. Ah, this is actually me in the cockpit of a seven thirty seven we had landed at jfk with my birthday and it was the first time in my flying history of over two point eight million miles whereas I was listening to the banter of the cockpit as they talk to us as we cross the country realize that's two female pilots up there is the first time that I had ever experienced that consciously that one year did one hundred sixty eight flights in one year to get my body around where it needed to be. So I asked the flight attendant, can I meet these two amazing people and I got to talk with them and and share a couple of stories I'm in the middle those of you watching this today live I'm in the middle of a thirty four day road trip that includes four countries that includes fourteen full day workshops this will count as two of those for you and I approximate about thirty thousand miles up in the air and all along the way e mails air coming in ideas or showing up people are talking about what more means to them so those of you in the live studio audience those of you watching online I hope you have a piece of paper and a pen if you want to grab that notebook that you brought today if you want to make yourselves comfortable I know some of you are still a little bit tight in here and if you can see this but people are kind of, you know, loot loosen up we've got some time together and what I'd like you to do is to start to think about if this shows up as a list if this shows up as a picture if it shows up is a poem but I'm gonna ask you to start thinking in this morning session about what mohr means to you a little bit of an overview of how will address the two days for those of you walking watching online day one is really all about you it's about you in relationship to the ideas that you have, the vision that you've created, the routines, the habits, what you show up to when that sunlight kisses your face or that alarm clock jolts you awake day to we're going to turn a corner because I know I can on ly be as productive I can on ly be as engaged I can on ly be as on as the people around me. Well, let me be so it's that in relationship to one another, that will be a pretty significant line. We're going to draw between now and four p m this afternoon here in san francisco, for those of you in new zealand, I think so, whatever the time zone four hours behind to sow about noon our time for them, we're going to draw a line where today is going to be about run, ginny, and how you are activated by those ideas that you see in the promo video. If you saw that when you signed up for the course I shared with you in that, that we would take a look at what we need to be doing more and who we need to be spending time with more, but we also have to take a look at what we need to stop doing and perhaps who I need to stop spending so much time around and by the way, back to another example I gave this morning. I remember the one time jodi and I sat down, we made a list of the magazines that I was subscribed to, and I realized that all of that information rick is. You shared that info whelmed where I was holding myself accountable to reading one hundred to three hundred pages of magazine articles a month, sometimes a week realizing I had to take that out of the system. So to achieve your more, we're going to look at building over these next two days what I call a productivity's profile. Really a tool kit, if you will, that you can access it any time. Will you get too many tools over the next two days? Will I give you too many ideas over the next two days? Yes, online. What that means is you may pop in and then come back and you'll get that one thing that you can go practice with here, live in the studio. We've created the data, have these little mini breaks in between. So that way you can refresh your mind, clear the mechanism and then come back together. Often people asked me, jason, what is a productivity's profile? What do you mean by that? It really to me has to do with three different aspects three different things that are going to come together and you're doing this right now right now sitting here watching this you're already thinking about planning about those things that are on your mind and I know people have told me they said, jason, oh, there's some days when I just have to go sit in that cafe for a couple of hours and let the world give me some ideas other people they need to hole up in their favorite couch their favorite edge of their favorite couch and let those ideas coming so however you think and plan, I know that it's context based I know that I'll have different ideas when I'm walking down madison avenue looking toward the park different than when I'm walking down downtown looking toward another retail shop, different ideas will come in obviously we need to talk then about what do I do when I have an idea and I need to share that with some one ounce and in this age I mean, as the comments are coming in, I'm going to turn to in a moment, but I'm sure we've got some but as the comments are coming in it's so easy these days so quickly get an idea out tony, I know we were talking before the course today about your website launch, and I think you accelerated that a little bit, knowing that you'd be here in creative live today, and it was that howto white communicate to this set of people, what I'm thinking about what I'm planning. And then rick, you had mentioned something and a couple others of you when you talk about having the ideas and then acting on those ideas for me, it comes down to tracking how do I have an idea while I'm sitting here? And if that idea has potential value late iran, I have to I have two things for you to consider. Number one what? Oh, I d'oh to complete that thought where I am and sometimes that's another thirty seconds of focus sometimes it's sixty seconds of leaving my phone upside down on the table because I'm so tempted toe right, that idea down. But if I can let myself spin another thirty or sixty or one hundred twenty seconds, and then the biggest challenge of all and why I mentioned that I was a high school teacher comes into play here. J cale howto I forget that idea now and pick it up again when I can do something about it. Folks, I spent five years teaching us history, world history and the spanish language. I spent five years focused on having my students get some information, go home that night, go to sleep, come back the next day and remember the information since I stopped teaching in two thousand, I've now spent the past thirteen years teaching people that have ideas right now and then forget them and then pick them up again when they could have potential value. So that's, some of what we're going to take a look at today, this triangle, if you drew that in your notes, were going to come back to that several times now, for those of you who have the course and for those of you are holding a copy of the book, page nine of my book has three things that I'd like to go over very quick. The three things for you to think about when you're making your mohr when you're stepping into that next vision of yourself, the first one you've already established that today you've set the goal, at least for today that I'm going to go sit down, I'm going to hold a note pad and a pen for those of you online, you're going to be in front of that computer for a while, you've set that goal, you set that intention. I'm a big fan of writing things down. I just saw info graphic this morning that said they did a study of people who had set goals for the next four weeks, and they broke that group into that group into three subgroups, and they put one group of people who just thought about the goal. They put one group of people who made a list of goals, and then they had one group of people who shared their goals with others, and it shouldn't be any surprise to any of us in this room. But it seems that when someone sets a goal and then shares that in a group that supports them, major shift happens. The consistency factor. Just the fact that you saw the course online you enrolled in the course, you filled out the application you created a day that you were able to get away. I'm always fascinated to ask people how many folks had to stay at work late last night to button up some things to be able to come to something like this. How many of you got up super early this morning? To check those things off that could wait until at least this afternoon, that consistency shows, and then there's going to be ample opportunity over these next two days to act and act and act. So how it will these two days unfold? Would all do I mention that tool kit a little bit earlier, you'll walk away with elements of your productivity portfolio again. Will I give you too many? He probably will you be full at each break that we take? Most likely, will there be tools that you can walk away with and use in tomorrow's conversation, tonight's email? Or that one text message that you're going to send at lunch today? Absolutely, the way it'll work is I'll introduce one of the elements, and then we'll explore that for awhile. Together in the audience, you're going to do some activities, I'm going to ask you to write some things down. We gave you a clipboard, we gave you some extra pieces of paper. For those of you who are more digital, you want that ipad out, please type into that as we go through, I'll turn to my hosts to see what kind of online in fact, why don't we just take a listen at what's what's happening out there in the world? We can up, so you know you've just come back from bruges haven't even belgium or you go, I was in belgium for about thirty six hours when they were in there, so do we have someone we do? We have philip from belgium's, very very welcome to you, belgian ponds, or could not much of a language of speaking, but says his mohr to him means a more fulfilled life. Having some less stress moments and enjoying things without constantly thinking about work and curio. So says more to me, means doing maurine less time and having more time to do the more important things like earning money. Andi emily barani says more means being regularly surprised where at where I am today, what I'm doing and wondering where I'll be next so that's supposed to feel, yeah. Three, eighteen media's joining us today, so he's, a regular with us. Welcome back, yes, welcome or two, three teen says, being mohr in the moment, enjoying life as it happens, and making room for spontaneity.

As a staunchly creative person, I have never been that interested in many of the business-minded productivity books, blogs and websites out there. I find them too dry and too focused on doing less and making more (money). I am at a point in my life where I want to do more and hopefully make some money doing it. But the “more” is the most important element. Jason Womack is the first person to help me encapsulate and identify just what “more” means to me. I have always been great at envisioning the big picture and I’m constantly daydreaming about my Ideal Day, but I get hung up on the details of how to get there. For me, the envisioning and organizing myself in a way to make it happen, seem like utilizing two sides of my brain and I find it nearly impossible to make the two halves work together. A stalemate ensues, and once again, I’ll find I’ve done nothing to advance my own cause. Jason’s method of unpacking, and breaking things down into elements, each with its own set of exercises, is perfect for my type of mindset. Even though there are exercises to complete, they are part of an ongoing process of organization and behavior modification. There are no cookie cutter answers here, and last time I checked, life didn’t work that way. The exercises are meant to be ongoing and fulfilling; teaching you why you do the things you do, as well as understanding the people around you. The methodology here can be applied to any business, including, and probably most importantly, the business of you, creative or otherwise. The workshop is, at times, an emotional experience, forcing you to really dig down to what matters and why. It reminds me of being a child, daydreaming about what I wanted to be when I grew up, never once thinking that anything would ever stand in my way. I feel the wall breaking down, and the two halves are talking. Thank you, Jason, for helping me get out of my own way.

If you want to make more time in your life and you want to create more of what you've been wanting -- whatever it is -- this course is for you. Jason has created some very doable tools, even for the non-habit-prone, ADD-minded, to help you prioritize, focus and get more of what you want (yes, by thinking bigger!) I attended the live program and have turned much of what I learned into habits, something I rarely do!
