Mapping Browser
So let's talk about the mapping browser now because we've talked about mapping like connecting a droll or being able to play but what about the things where I have the the knobs and effects and stuff like that? Well that's where the mapping browser comes in the this lets you matt parameters to a mini controller mac rose keyboard computer keyboard this is a powerful way to set many maximal values to your knobs or trigger certain clips wood with key strokes and this is all within the many mapping the mapping branson we're going to look at that so many mapping with the mapping browser live lets you yeah we already looked at that but there are two important things we have midi which enters into the browser and then we have key which goes into the key uh mapping which is different so let's look and gabriel and current projects we're now looking at mapping browser now if you have a controller this is going to be gold that this is going to be totally great um let's say we're playing these sam...
ples now let's say I had that audio effect let's do fades delay I'm gonna put on the master now I could come here and do this by my you know mouse all day long or I could map it to here to do that, all I do is I hit midi which is up at the top I hit mitt he gets me this which is the mapping browser now I goto whatever parameter this is super easy I remember the day when we had to type in like you didn't even say c sixteen for like no like sea to which meant see second active you'd have to put in a minute up numerical number which represents that note and then you would have to put in other in for like you just typed information on these like our cakes like software tio to set up all your mapping now it's as easy as this I click that move that that is it now done very very easy right? Well er let's see you can also go about another route is let's say I have um I'm just going to keep using these cool effects so I'm gonna drag in all these effects and let me move somebody so we have you have that robot college well I could go into midi joe showing before and then map it or I can right click it and just say uh any mini map and then it's right there opens there's a different way of opening it and then I'll just map it to here awesome now uh ok yeah we're going to talk about in a second so we also have in the mat mode in the mini matt mode there's a few things we have here one of them being cc ah what what the parameter is and then we have the path and everything like that but then we also have this minimum and maximum value so let's say on what is this? This is the smooth since okay, let's look at the live effects um this full one fade to delay weaken set the minimum zero and the maximum toe like let's say around fifty percent so now that parameter on lee goes halfway and we can start getting mohr mork control over stuff like that all right, now I've got this set just gonna play the scene and I'm gonna start adding effects and mapping them and playing with mapping to show what we can start doing with great example to start is let's say I want tio ad one manning I am adding a river all right? I'm gonna have a river for this drum set it correctly. All right, so right now that's a little much river break but I'm going to many mapping to this knob now as soon as I pressed their move the knob I get this information as you see forty eight goes there dry went zero to one hundred percent all right so let's see what that like it goes all the way wet which is too much that is where in admitting hit many again up here my men max comes so I can say max is on ly let's say forty two percent and let's even put it from ten percent to forty two. Now, when I moved my knob notice that the dry way right here, ten percent and then when I go up only go support so we can start setting parameters how far uh, these affects go great. Now I'm just gonna keep kind of riffing off this idea. Start my next section, going to my audio effect. I have tons of body affects that created myself lithe yeah, I'm actually going to show this other thing first. So if I have in my audio effects something like an e q eight I'm just going to seoul this let's say, I want to filter this down with my control, right? Well, if I mapped this to this so if I'm all the way over here it's fine, but when I go here it's all the way off pretty much because I am queuing out all the sound well, that might not be what the type of action that I want from this knob I want might want it to be reversed just so it's. Like more logical well, if I go to many right here, this is the frequency thirty, twenty two I can right click and invert ranges super useful because now this position which I would normally call neutral that's just what I'm used to a knob starting over on my left side when I move over to my right it's each ewing it out like is what what I would expect awesome said no, we don't invert we know men and max very helpful now let's just start throwing effects on here way so I've got this live next get a map like this weirding way one way also delete graphics here who's gonna believe that it has more respect for other things like my base map that just playing around with ideas exceptions so now you can see I can just kind of sit here and control the playback I've brought out basically the base using this I've laid out my on then let's even add something like it's going about these real quick phasers and effects and now this's making it mano kind of like old time radio I could bring in my next part I could smoothly go between my parts in a live setting they're just these knobs that I've mapped random things playing with those effects play with my men max my mapping and so on um just real briefly I'm going to show a few things like let's say if I go in my many I can also map specific things to let's say my keyboard like aiken map that clip to this note this clip to this note and so on and now I can trigger things so I can even stop all of these because sometimes you have a keyboard but you don't have something to launch like a launchpad you could just map it very easy so you can start playing with basically anything this khun do aiken map to something in ableto then the only other thing is key mapping because sometimes you don't even have a keyboard and what you can do is I'm just going to delete the zmapp ings you can press the thing like a pressing this parameter here and hitting delete or you can also select all those and just hit delete some deleted all my mapping now if I had a key key map is now map to my keyboard unlike my computer so I could do something like q is that w is that is this and then I can start different clips just for my keyboard there's some people on I have to make sure I hit this many so now pays attention kim's w starts he starts that there are some people that have, like color coded their keyboard to all these different effect processing and stuff and it's really cool so you can realize that your computer's keyboard in and of itself is in many controller as well on top of whatever other controller you have super useful is there a way some modulate the sensitivity or rather to change the modulation rate? Whenyou do that mapping so how sensitive the effect is going to be, teo your input on the knob here or on the keyboard? No on on your controller if they're if you're nothing tio like a macro to a knob like if you were to move in a quarter of an inch with that beef, you know, from zero to one hundred versus a full rotation of the knob being zero to one hundred so creating kind of like a curve, right? No, not without max for life, there is a max for life patch that allows you so we're basically wondering is because I've definitely wondered that let's say you had one an exponential curve, so if I'm turning this, I turn it all the way to a halfway position it's only slightly creating an effect, but the last part of the position is like, really creating the effect or something like that, right? So we can instead of having just a straight line begin to change the shape of how the change happens, you can't do that in able to natively you can do that with some some hacking in some extra life, yeah, so when you're playing live, you're definitely not playing one song um I assume you have different type of different songs arranged out how would you go and change all that um mapping that you've had previously to new song s o that starts getting into a live set stuff which I can talk about another time where I could tell you some things but look at it this way this is a few songs right now there's actually two this is a remix right here in the war ranged this is another track here so I had these different clips so all the mapping of like my my state and stuff all within the song so if I ever wanted to and new songs to this set I would just drag in those clips it's also gets into something which is a little crazy which I talk about a lot more is super useful I talk about in my life set class is what I'm talking about live performance but let's say I am I'm just going to make a new folder temporarily on my desktop sure all right, so in this new folder I added that to my place is here I'm just going to take all this actually it's take this whole thing I can take my my scene I could drag this into the new folder and save us now this is song one I can drag it back in so you can actually go through and create like a temple, it caught up all your songs, making parts, dragging in and out. I can create this dragon and say song, too, and then dragon song one into and that way it's, keeping all the mapping that's in here. And I can bring new songs in and out. That's, the basic beginning of how we do my life set in terms of you used to be like hundreds, you know of scenes. But now I can start with, like twenty scenes in one song, and then just do it on the fly for the rest of the show.

Hello, Firstly gotta thank you for your great tutorials, and sharing the knowledge of making music; then I wanna say, I bought the Ableton Live 9 tutorial package, but I didn't heard or better say understand some of Mr. Cotec's words; that's why I wonder would you please send me an English subtitle of his excellent teaching? I will be much grateful for this. Best Regards, Malc

Isaac is the man! He is such a great teacher and you can tell has full control over the information. I already feel like I am many steps above friends who have used ableton for years because of this course setting a foundation for me to learn and experiment. Thank you Isaac and crew!
