How to Break Apart & Destroy Text & Fonts Using Adobe Illustrator CC
Hey there in this video, we're going to start destroying type. Like this boom up here, we're going to cut the centers out. We dropped the m a bit this l here we get to wrap around a little bit different with dropped P. We've smashed the I it's really easy to do in adobe illustrator. Let's go and do it now. Okay, so to break apart type and start manipulating it, we're going to kind of just work on the top here. I'm gonna grab the type tool, click once to type the word. Boom, boom, boom will do exclamation mark. I'm going to pick a font. What a nice big a brawl brawl, fat face. That's a kind of a font of them into at the moment. I'm going to make it nice and big with the fonts. Okay with the black arrow, it's actually sometimes easier just to hold down, shift and grab the corner of it. Okay, so this is my font. I'm going to keep a copy of it because there's so many times that I end up breaking it apart and forgetting what the font was later on. Okay, so with that selected, all I need to ...
do is go to object actually go to type and there's one that says create outlines. Okay, create outlines, destroys the font. Okay, so it's no longer you can't grab the type tool and edit it. Okay, I have to go back to that version, but now it's bits and pieces. There's a few things I can do to it remember the black arrows for moving it around and the white arrow direct selection tool allows me to see all these like anchor points and that's what I want to do. What I'm gonna do is just click once on the inside of this. Delete once the lead again. Deleting twice on my keyboard because I want this kind of, I don't know extensively style boom, just double clicking, I'm clicking once and then deleting twice to get rid of the inside parts. That's kind of what I wanna do. You can also grab it and say I want to grab all of these are my white error and dragging a box around them all. Okay and I can select all of these now. Okay. I'm not sure what I'm doing now now I'm really wrecking it, grabbing a couple of points holding shift while dragging just to kind of get them to move around. Oh man, I don't like that one, but you get the idea. Okay, next thing we want to do is let's say that. So that's a thing that we've done and what we might want to do is um let's grab the type tool, this happens a bit where you've got a nice font, let's say I'm going to use, I'm gonna use the word Lauren ipsum but instead of a brush, I'm gonna use lust. It's quite similar but there's a script option. These are type kit fonts that you can go get for free. Okay, so I'm gonna click on this and I like it, I'm going to copy a version of it. What I want to do is I want to change the color for no reason, but I want this kind of L to maybe wrap around this E. Or something else. Do something interact with the type a little differently, and that's where outlining it can be helpful remember type, create outlines and I can grab my white arrow, I can zoom in a bit and I'm going to grab these three points here and I'm just going to drag them kind of maybe around this E. Okay, it's a bit of a long stretch. I could leave it like that or I can start grabbing, say these handles here. There's this handle. I want to kind of drag it out a little bit. I don't want you to be down a little bit more. I'm totally wrecking this for a typographer, especially if you made lust. I'm really sorry for this, but you get what I'm trying to do here, right? I'm trying to kind of make it move and do other things, not my best. Okay, but you get the idea. Okay, any of this can be changed. I can grab this corner, drag it out, I can grab this chunk, make it longer now, I'm totally wrecking it trying to grab the bottom of this. All right. Oh yes, dan, you've made a great font. Alright, so that is outlining type and destroying it jump ahead a couple of videos where we start looking at putting images inside of it. Okay. It'll be under a category called images, where we clip images inside of that. But for now that is it for breaking apart and destroying text in adobe illustrator. See you in the next video.

BIG COMPLAINT... I'm just starting this course. I have Illustrator CS6. My BIG/HUGE Complaint and I only watched 2 1/2 brief lessons... Is that the FiVRR LOGO (top right) is RIGHT ON TOP of the Illustrator Panels and YOU CANNOT SEE what is under it. IF one is just learning, they need to see what everything looks like in Illustrator (or any class). I STRONGLY suggest that FIVRR and CreativeLive find a better place to put the FIVRR Logo instead of putting it where it BLOCKS ESSENTIAL course visuals! Not sure I can get through this, but I'm not giving up quite yet. I like the course previews and IF I can learn how to get around Illustrator I will be thrilled... I am a Photoshop person, and Illustrator makes me feel like an incompetent! ;) Perhaps IF I can learn Illustrator I can use it for some of the visuals I create! Thanks in advance. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE find a better place and size for the Fivrr Logo. ~Roz Fruchtman aka @RozSpirations

This was a great class that covered the fundamentals really well - some of the instructions were out of date if you are using Creative Cloud but wasn't anything I couldn't get around. I loved the format and Daniel is a great teacher, who made each video interesting and fun to watch!

This class is AMAZING!! Daniel is a very thorough, entertaining and easy to follow instructor. You DO NOT need to take any college course on Illustrator because this is the whole thing right here!! You will be a pro once you complete it. I only wish that Creative Live could send me a diploma for it once I complete it! BUY THIS CLASS! IT’S WORTH EVERY PENNY!!
