How to Redraw the Tinder Logo in Adobe Illustrator CC

Hi there in this video, we're going to redraw the Tinder logo, mainly focusing on this flame in the cool gradient, we're going to learn how to use the curvature tool, we're gonna use the corner options, all sorts of great gradient stuff. Alright, let's learn how to do that in adobe illustrator. Alright, so let's draw the flame part again. There's lots of ways of doing it. Probably the easiest way with our skills is the curvature tool. Okay, And remember clicking once gives you curves, cooking twice or double clicking gives you corners. I do it right, okay, so that's the trick. So I'm gonna delete all that. I'm going to make sure I've got a fill of none. I'm going to make sure I've got a stroke of black and I'm going to make sure my stroke is quite thin so I can see what I'm doing. Alright to get started, we're gonna pick this tip because that looks good and we are going to double click cause there's a corner, you see it's edgy corner points. So double click and when it comes to curves,...

it's the least amount of points you've got, makes it look nice and smooth. Now you might have to practice a couple of times. I know a circle K has only four points, one of the top one on the bottom left and right. So we're gonna kind of use that same sort of philosophy here, you know, click once, it's kind of like big side of this, click once down the bottom here, I'm going to click once, don't worry, it doesn't quite line up because when you keep bending it around it starts adjusting and we're going to have to do some adjustments afterwards. I'm going to click it once, come back here now it's a corner. Double click now, this is confusing to people a little bit. If I zoom in and if I like click once, okay and try and do this, it's not gonna work. If I double click, it's not gonna work. What I need to do is I need to do like a slight curve in here so I need to click once at the apex of this curve and it's quite small. Okay, just a low one, so I'm gonna click once for a curve and remember this is the corner change of direction. Double click same thing here, is that a lot more exaggerated? So it's easier so find the center of it. Were the center of the apex, not just the center, that kind of the biggest turning point, which seems a little bit more down here once because we want to curve back to here, click wants to kind of join it all up and now we can go and do some adjustments so we're kind of there right with the curvature tool and the zoom out a little bit is you need to adjust maybe moving these anchor points around. Okay you can see I can kind of move them around and kind of adjust this, the cool thing about using the curvature tool rather than the direct selection tool, which might be something you are more accustomed to is it affects not only this anchor point but all the corresponding joining ones and it does a really good job of kind of adjusting things. So I'm just here we go, let's go here. I'm really dismissing about, come on, come on, find that curve. Now if you're finding like me, the smart guides are kind of trying to take control, go to view, turn smart guides off. Um but at the last minute here seemed to kind of fix this, I'm gonna zoom in up here, I'm happy enough with it. Am I know I'm not gonna drag this one down to turn those smart guides off, please go away. So it's not snapping. Here we go there and this one here a bit of adjustment, he probably needs to be there and down. Okay, so another thing that we might do is let's zoom in on this version, I think it has like slightly tapered edges, so I'm going to zoom out again have nothing selected so that it zooms into the middle of the screen and I think these guys have slight rounds on the edges here, that one doesn't seem to these definitely do. Cool, so there's a shortcut to zooming into the whole screen is command zero on your keyboard. Okay, if you're on a Mac or command zero on a Pc. So what I want to do is probably describe the white arrow. I probably want them to be the same actually. So I'm going to zoom out White arrow, click him. White arrow, click him. Okay, so this one direct selection tool held shift. Okay, so click one, hold shift, click this other one. And you're looking for these little targets here. So I'm going to zoom in on them just because I want them to be the same space bar. I'm holding space bar on my on my keyboard and holding my mouse and dragging. That's how I'm moving around. Okay, I'm just gonna drag these in because I want them all to be kind of the same. All right. So they both adjusted at the same time. I'm happy enough with it. Next thing I want to do is the gradient. So black arrow, I'm gonna select on this guy. I'm going to go to Phil and we're gonna start with a gradient. Just the regular linear one. We can open up the gradient options from down here. Okay. Or you can go to window and gradient. Where is he there? He is there. Cool. And we want it was selected with the black arrow from linear to radial. We're going to move the center of rotation, I think. Is it a radio? Didn't even check before I started. It might not even be a radial gradient. Okay, I think I might be wrong, linear. You can play around. And so when you've got it in right, we need two things. We need the colors and the direction. So let's do the colors first. It's best to select them first. I'm gonna grab the eyedropper tool and I'm going to click on this to be top color here and you can see it's there, it's over here. I'm gonna click on it and say add to swatches. Okay, it's just a little appeared there is a little reusable swatch and then down here I'm gonna go the eyedropper tool and I'm going to say I want that color and add him to my properties Phil make news, watch, I'm not worried about the color. Cool. So now my colors are added. I'm going to select him with my black arrow. Great. And I'm gonna do double click the White house, that's the white area here, I'm gonna say that's that side, this one. Hello? Okay, now I need to play around with the angle and I use that using the gradient tool. Okay? And you can click and drag across it to get it to go the right way. So I need to drag from kind of up that way. I feel like that's kind of what's going on there. Um Not exactly. The last thing I'm gonna do is I'm going to go to properties, I'm gonna say stroke. You were helpful but you are now gone that my friends is how to redraw the tinder logo using loads of tools, mainly the curvature tool and the rounded corners in adobe illustrator. Alright, let's get on to the next video.

BIG COMPLAINT... I'm just starting this course. I have Illustrator CS6. My BIG/HUGE Complaint and I only watched 2 1/2 brief lessons... Is that the FiVRR LOGO (top right) is RIGHT ON TOP of the Illustrator Panels and YOU CANNOT SEE what is under it. IF one is just learning, they need to see what everything looks like in Illustrator (or any class). I STRONGLY suggest that FIVRR and CreativeLive find a better place to put the FIVRR Logo instead of putting it where it BLOCKS ESSENTIAL course visuals! Not sure I can get through this, but I'm not giving up quite yet. I like the course previews and IF I can learn how to get around Illustrator I will be thrilled... I am a Photoshop person, and Illustrator makes me feel like an incompetent! ;) Perhaps IF I can learn Illustrator I can use it for some of the visuals I create! Thanks in advance. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE find a better place and size for the Fivrr Logo. ~Roz Fruchtman aka @RozSpirations

This was a great class that covered the fundamentals really well - some of the instructions were out of date if you are using Creative Cloud but wasn't anything I couldn't get around. I loved the format and Daniel is a great teacher, who made each video interesting and fun to watch!

This class is AMAZING!! Daniel is a very thorough, entertaining and easy to follow instructor. You DO NOT need to take any college course on Illustrator because this is the whole thing right here!! You will be a pro once you complete it. I only wish that Creative Live could send me a diploma for it once I complete it! BUY THIS CLASS! IT’S WORTH EVERY PENNY!!
