Advanced Text Styling
We're gonna get in here, we've got some text done what I want to do, is I want to start to do a little bit more with other types of content, a little bit more textiling, so I'm gonna go over and I want you to do the same, we're eventually gonna kinda fix this up a little bit here but let's go back over to, let's go to the team page click on the team page, and we're gonna start to add some text. I just wanna make sure we got what we got here. We're gonna add a little bit of text we're gonna do some things like, I don't know bullet points, do different things like that, so actually, not the team page let's actually go to the Thanks page, I'm sorry come back over here to your site plan bar and you should see we have this Thanks page. I want to put a little text out there and I want to make sure that we, you know just say, "hey, thank you." This is gonna be like a thank you for filling out the form type thing so double-click on the Thanks page and zoom out if you can. So, I'm gonna go to V...
iew, Fit Page in Window, and you see it's blank that's because we assign that blank master page to it we're gonna reassign the other master, just so we have some content, but for now, let's put the text out here. Come to the text tool and what you're gonna do is just click and drag and go out there. Now, we're gonna go out and just, I don't want to paste the text. We're gonna go out and add a little bit of text, we'll just say, like, you know, "Thanks, "for filling out the form," and we could just copy and paste text from the home page. That actually might make more sense. I didn't have any other text to use, so maybe I'll do that. I'm not gonna make you type a lot. If you want to, you can go to the home page just select this text, silly text. Copy it and go back to the Thanks page. And you can just paste it in there and unfortunately, we're gonna have it be white in color, so you can select all the text and go up top, or go to the text panel and just change the color, there we go. Okay, now what we're gonna do is, we're gonna put a picture out here and I want to just show you a couple other things here. We're gonna do something called text wrap. Text wrap is something where you have an image for instance, or an icon, or something and you have text going around it or wrapping around it so, to do that, we need some text, and we also need a picture or icon, something to put out here. So, we're gonna place an image. So, come under File and come to Place and you should see that we actually have, I've got a bunch of things in here. What I want to do, let me go in here and make sure I'm in the right folder, there we go. We're gonna use the home picture, just something that we have or, you know what, let's make it friendly. We're gonna put one of the pictures of the employees in there. Any picture that you have you can put out there. We're just gonna make it kinda small. So, I'll grab this one right here. That's fine, click okay, or click open rather, come out here, I'm gonna draw it and make it kinda small so click and drag to make it somewhat small and the reason I'm making it small is so that the text will actually go around it and wrap it. Now, wrapping text in here is a little different. It actually means that we have to go in and copy an image and paste it into the text which is kinda interesting, and then we're gonna use what's called the wrap panel to do this. So, if you come under window, you're gonna see the wrap panel. Go ahead and open that up and you should see it on the right over there. Got it, to get this to work, like I said, we have to copy something, and it doesn't have to be an image, it could be something else. Copy something and paste it into the text. So, take this and, instead of copying it, we're gonna cut it off the page. So you can right-click if you want, and you can cut it. Come into the text and, I want to make this box a little wider, just so we have some more room. Double-click to switch to the text tool and then put the cursor, now this is key put the cursor at the top here, before the first character. If you put it somewhere else down here, it's actually gonna stick the image in there and we don't want to do that, so put it right up there, click, and then paste the image. So I'll right-click and choose paste, all right. Now, it's kinda working, it's in there. Text isn't really wrapping yet, but with that selected, go back to the selection tool, the black arrow, and you'll see that you can click on the image it should be selected, come over to the Wrap panel and you can see, we can do wrap to the, what is this, text goes to the right or text goes to the left. We've got a couple options here to work with, and once you turn it on once you do this kind of wrap, you could actually then come into what's called offsets you can push the text away from different sides if you want to. Now, I tend to turn this off this is actually make all settings the same, that way, you can push away from the right and the bottom and not the top and the left, that kinda thing. So, turn that off and come in here, and we're just gonna push away from the bottom. Now, you know, the bottom's not gonna do anything right now 'cause the text is wrapping down there but if I push to the right, now I'm just holding down my mouse on that little arrow there to get it to go faster. You can type in a value if you want, there's a lot of ways we can do this but however you do it, you're gonna get it to push away and get it to wrap, which is pretty cool. Now, if we wanted to, we could remove that by deleting the image. That's simple, or just turn off the wrap. It would look silly, but you've got that. Now, click away from it and then click back on it and you'll see that you are selecting the text frame itself. If you want to select the image you're gonna click on the image again. It's just an easy way to get in there if you ever need to do something. Now, you gotta be careful with this. If you try to move it around, it's gonna do some wacky things. It'll go up, it'll go down but you gotta be careful and you only drag it from within the text frame bounds. There we go. Yeah, don't do what I just did. Do as I say, not as I do. Okay, go ahead and save your site. So, we've got that. If we want to, we can also go and work with bullets and different things like that. Let's talk a little bit about that. That's part of all of this, wrapping text, working with bullets, that type of thing. We're switching between some of the pages here, and sorry about that, but we're gonna switch back over and this time we're gonna go to the Team page. Why don't you come back to Team, and we're gonna add a little text. Now, we should still have that text from the Home page copied. You could type text in right now, we could copy-paste, you could copy it from Thanks page. As a matter of fact, I might go do that 'cause it's already black. I'll go back to the Thanks page and, if you come to the text and double-click on it, you'll get the cursor in there and you could just copy. So, I'll copy the text maybe just a paragraph, I'll copy it. Come back over to the Team page and, like I said, if you just want to type in text, that's fine and let's just draw a couple text boxes. I'll draw one here to start. Let's just do one to start and then we'll paste it. And I want to paste the text in there, we could have just pasted the text, but right-click, choose Paste. Now, we've got a little bit up here. What we can do is, let me put the cursor at the top. Let's put the name of the person. You can put your name, or whatever, put somebody's name in there, there we go. And at the bottom, what we're gonna do is we're gonna list some qualifications. So why not put a bullet list or a numbered list down there? Press enter or return and I'm gonna scroll down and I'm also gonna zoom in a bit so you can see this. So, I'll use the pinch zoom on my laptop here and I want to add some text. So, we're gonna put in some things like, okay, he is, this person is a Web, Web Dev. Designer, Coffee Maker, you know, whatever. We're gonna put some stuff in there. Now, to make a list in here is pretty simple, pretty straight-forward, it's very much like other Adobe applications. If you look up top, you're gonna see we have two buttons up there in the control panel. If you don't see them, you should see them up there with your cursor in the text, but if you don't see them, you can actually go over to the, I don't think they're in the text panel, are they? Nope, they're not, so, look for them up there. You can also look for them in the bullets panel I'm sure if you look over here in the panel called Bullets, you'll see them over there. Go ahead and select all three lines here all three bits of text. I hit a return between each one every time you press a return, it's gonna be another bullet or it's gonna be another number. Either come up top here, easy way to do it, click on the Bullets button to turn it on pretty simple, it just does it. Now, if you click the arrow to the right of the bullet button there you can choose a bullet and, well, that's pretty sad, we've only got I only have three, so, if we want to add more different types of bullets we're looking for, you can come down here to the bottom and click on New Character. That's gonna open up something else we can work with. So click New Character. We're gonna see the new bullet character dialogue. This is kinda like a glyphs panel, where you can see a bunch of the glyphs for a given font. If I come up here, you can then try choosing another font if you want and see if it's got some other bullets, like this one, this is gold, wow. I can go in and choose boxes, all kinds of stuff. There we go. If you click on one, you can add it or just simply click okay and it will add it for you. So, you can see right there, there it is. There's my bullet, so, I can try something different. It's just using a different font, that's fine. Now, if we want to adjust spacing and different things like that for the bullets, come over to the right and you should see, hopefully, the bullets panel over there. If you don't see it, it should open when you open the wrap panel. Come up under Window and you should see Bullets. Now, we're not gonna get to it, but there are styles you can create for bullets, but we're not gonna go there now, so once you have the bullets selected and applied, you can then go in and say, all right, let's do this, let's change the size of the bullet. You can actually make them really big. You can make them really small. You can do all kinds of things. If you choose Auto, it's pretty much gonna make them the same size as the text you're using. You can change the color of the bullets if you want to try something a little different, do something like that. You can adjust where the text sits in relation to the bullet. You can push it in. You can adjust the bullet up and down, if you want to go up and down. Sometimes the bullets are a little bit off alignment, so you can adjust them and you can just push the whole thing in or pull it back out. You can even hide the bullet. If you just want to make a list that's indented, kind of like tabbing, you can do that and there we go. So, numbers work very similarly. If you turn on the number, you're gonna get Numbers and you go in an change all the formatting options. If you want to make subset lists, lists underneath you'll see, just like a lot of programs, you've got the increase list and the indent button there and you can just push in to push it underneath. I think we're good, I think we can keep it as-is. And the last thing I want to do here is, go ahead and select the selection tool. I'm gonna zoom out a little bit and why don't we copy that text box over here? So, you can copy-paste, or you can press the Option key on Mac, Alt key in Windows and just drag it across, and you'll see it'll line up. Let go of the mouse, then the key and we can change this name if we want to somebody else. Something like that, there we go, all right. So, working with text, we've got a lot of things we can do. Between text wrapping, between bullets, we have glyphs. We didn't even talk about glyphs. There's so many things. If you want to insert a different kind of bullet, a trademark, a copyright that type of thing, you can go to the glyphs panel and double-click on a glyph and insert it right into the text. There's a bunch of ways to get that done.

This is part 2 of a 3 part course covering basics, fundamentals and some advanced properties. The three programs combined make a complete course in Adobe Muse. I am very pleased someone finally made a decent and complete course in how to use use Muse. As a photographer who has fairly simple needs for for building and maintaining a website, I needed something much less complicated than Dreamweaver. Brian Wood does an excellent job as he usually does. He is very detail oriented and he speaks technically to most operations within a program. He does work a little too hard at dumbing it down, but he is much better than those that skip over the details or those ewho don't even know the details. If you want to learn Muse, I highly recommend this course, in fact, all three parts.

Very efficient introduction to the basics in Muse. I did the Muse CC Quick Start course and then followed up with this Muse course on the fundamentals. This course is a little more technical that the quick start. Both courses give you what you need to do a website. The fundamentals talks briefly about HTML,JavaScript, etc.; while the quick start course does not. Recommend this class for using Muse for web design.
