1 Year Olds: Using Different Props
I'm gonna have mom come in because this is overwhelming for a young child. Now when we by the way this is melanie everyone she is alex is better half over here sometimes you go home, buddy it's nicolas for you kind of nikolai excuse me. Sure. Nice. And I have kind of put him in this adorable outfit. This is a hugely overwhelming situation for one year old. So what? Engaging right now, guys, is how he's reacting to all this attention because there's cameras going on and babies at this stage are starting to get separation anxiety sometimes pretty badly. So I'm kind of reading him in this overwhelming environment to see how he's going to react on so I want to take you if you're going to cry or not let's see how high peanut yeah, your mama's right there she's not going anywhere. Yeah he's pretty happy doesn't mind me holding him so there's not a huge amount of separations that he's so curious about what's going on he's like, what is that? Look, there's a stool so we go play with it. Look, ...
you want to go process stool so one of the first things I gotta do and mom, I think he's okay, but if he starts to cry and I just want you insight so he can see you now sometimes it's like a two year old. You want mom out of the way completely because the kid usually does better without mom than with mom at this age, you have to gauge it and kind of see if they're going to do better with mama without mom, I say we go play with the stool. Oh, drinking. Thank you for getting my look at you. You're so tall and big. Couldn't is that lauren? Yeah. She's my own at her. When I sit down, have a seat, women there travesty he's like no, I like stare, then it's fun. Okay, can you balance on this? Could you get your okay? You want to stand up? Oh, my fun. Exciting. Yeah, so fun and exciting. Can you walk? Oh, you're just starting to stand up. Look atyou. Yeah, he's. Like, well, that's a scary mummy. But there's mother right here. Yeah. See it's all this. Lots of cameras around, huh? Yeah. Goodness isjust overwhelming home, it's, hard work being a baby. It's a big job. Somebody's got to do it. It's like these people, the joys of challenging shooting situations, right? Oh, yeah. Okay. And tired. Oh, goodness, we have a big yawn. Yeah, so he's about to nap, isn't he yeah, so we'll see if we can't get a couple of shots out of him and then and sometimes if I have problems getting them to sit down I'll have mom join in and do the baby at her feet so we'll see how he does here we'll try one more time look at that what do you think you're pushing around? What do you think you're pushing what do you think? Can you push that store way push that's to push it oh you're doing so good. What do you think? You push it to make a call like that stool go think you're welcome here too I think this is the joys of a one year old is their mobile now? Yeah mom's awesome sauce isn't she lets try to go back and one year old sessions are good to have an assistant uh wait was that year you go and get him back to salem it like you oh like wait, what do you think you're gonna come get it tio come, come get it. You get the hard part about this is that you? Thank you is it george? Oh, he's like I'm gonna crawl forward ok, you're doing awesome, okay let's um let's go ahead and try to change substance a little bit see if we can't contain him a little bit worried and grab the chair and see if he'll stand up next to the chair pop it like that and then we're gonna stand him up behind it let's walk wanna walk oh yeah you get you well could you come on you can do is get you is fine oh my goodness yeah big accomplishment big accomplishment what do you think I won't let you fall but I promise yeah look atyou look atyou you make sure that karen thank you you gonna lean on that when you're ready? Okay, let's go get her. Thea saying to do sometimes with these chairs has put little rubber stoppers on the bottom um this floor's a lot slicker than what I have at home it's a lot harder so the chairs wanting to slide across that which makes me a little bit nervous um has another reason to have assistant on hand when they're super mobile like this and most kids this age are used to like standing up, falling down a little bit standing up and falling down but I just get a little bit I'm overly paranoid about safety and making sure that they're happy but he's getting a little bit tired I'm gonna go ahead and try one more thing and then we'll go ahead and move on to behind this and the cake but really if you can get a couple of good shots of them standing or doing what what's popular at the stage you know like what's the growth period of the stage you're going to end up with a set of shots that mark mark the uh mark the significance of the stage so that's always a good thing now he might be just a little bit too tired to move on but we will attempt I should take off my shoes so I'm not making so much noise across the floor okay let's see here he's such a cute so what was it like being a mom constant anything she said yeah especially and again for those of you at home I am putting a there is a fifteen pounds a bag of sand in the bottom of this to create some um wait in there so it won't fall over he's a bigger baby so actually starting to figure you don't need the uh the uh little hard to take off my shoes I'm making a bunch of noise and these heels are not conducive to julia's getting casual not conducive to shooting okay so make sure this line right here is gonna bug me so I'm gonna turn the bucket a little bit so we don't see it here we go okay now I'm gonna grab some toys in case he cries right away when we put him in there he's like what is this girl doing? They love to watch you I love to see what you're doing okay your bell yeah. It's pretty cool, huh? Miss julia has little keys. I think prison might need batteries on a new remote control e I tend to get really crazy with the babies like I turn into a whole other person. Um so let's see if we could do this go ahead and pop him in but here legs here. Hi, b not look at you working? Yeah. Yeah, like you are a crazy lady. What? Oh, yeah, her. Thank you, but I love it when they smell you. Mysterious crazy, huh? Where did you get that that's? What? They love video. Okay, let's, go ahead and stop there. I think we're going to move on in the interest of time. I got some adorable stuff his smiling you start to get tired. I would because of what we're he was awesome. Nico, you're just amazing people usually tell me you were in a definitely a contrived situation here, so he normally wouldn't photograph a baby like this that had not that was just about to go to sleep for a nap. Um, I would make sure that the parents that he had napped first thing you know, I mean, it was coming to me fresh that way I would have more time with him and he would be a little bit more well rested but it's, good to see kind of the tenseness and the anxiety that comes when they start to get tired. I'm seeking kai's can kind of see what you can do it, it's all about distraction, distract him from the from the distracted from the tears, you know, kind of, use something like a toy or get nasty looking. Robin is george your tired old eyes. Daddy, I'm tired, so thank you so much, nico. You were awesome. Sauce your ticket. I got a smile that you get that thing off me.

I just finished to watch this course. And I confess: I've been struggled all the time during the viewing to say already: I LOVE IT! So, I LOVE this course! Julia is so nice teacher, and photographer, and person. And she is so incredible organizator of whole child's photography business. She is amazing, so meticulous, so persuasive trough all and each one of the important points of this business. And she is just great in the part of studio´s shooting examples with the babies. This is one of the best and most valuable courses I found in Creative Live, thanks!

I've been so fortunate to be able to be a part of the Live audience experience with Julia. She is an amazing person, photographer and teacher. She does a fantastic job of explaining in detail, the steps she has taken that have helped her success as well as the steps that have set her back. We are so lucky to be able to learn from her experiences and to have someone who is willing to put herself out there to teach us and help us to grow as photographers. For anyone considering adding a Baby Plan to their portrait offerings, this class is a MUST have. Julia, you are #awesomesauce !! xoxo - Dawn Potter www.dawnpotterphotography.com
