How To Use Reverse Engineering
I just wanted to mention that if you have some difficulties in talking about what your super skill is or explaining to them why they should be hiring you, I highly recommend another Creative Live workshop that we are offering and it's called Discover Your Superskills. And that will take you through this step-by-step. I also like this quote here from David Lloyd George, "Don't be afraid to take a big step. "You can't cross a chasm in two small jumps." So there it is, your big client. One big client is better than two teeny little clients. (laughs) So let's make these big jumps. Now we're going to go to my favorite. (claps) I mean, you know strategy is already very exciting but reverse engineering is, like only, like, the best thing, like ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. So. If you go to the top of a mountain, would you go straight up? Can a car go straight up? So when you go on a mountain there's serpentines, it goes back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth all the way ...
to the top, right? Good, so there's only two things you know when you go to a mountain. I'm starting at the bottom, and I would like to go to the top. That's it. And then you have to sit down and figure out where on this mountain are you going to find shelter? Where are you going to find food? Can you do it in a day? What if bad weather hits? So there's a whole bunch of things that have to go in to actually map out how to get from the bottom to the top. What if we, when we think this through, we learn from people that have done this before. That have, kind of, been at the top and they know the way and now they can tell us what kind of expect on the way there. So reverse engineering is, no surprise, a learnable skill, because it is a process that we can follow. This is now actually identifying exactly the different steps that you need to be in control and not react, because that's what I teach. It's about being in control or at least appearing as if you're in control (laughs) if you can't be in control all the time. And why do we need it? Well we need it because we, we want to influence people. We want to influence our career. We want to have influence over where we are going. We want to get out of this helpless feeling that stuff is just happening to us. And being, again, in firm control over where we are going. I've invented, not, you know I didn't really invent these terms but in the thought process in the women's code is very straightforward. The first thing we thing about is awareness. Awareness is a fact-finding process. It asks where are we, what are we doing, what are the facts? And it's key, there's never ever any judgement. If you're in a bad space, if you're in a great space. So, it's just the way it is, okay? We can't lose sleep over things that already have happened, but we will be changing the things that are about to happen because now we are stepping up to the plate. But the first thing in order for you to start at the bottom of the mountain, you gotta know where you are. So where are you right now? Where is that that you are right now? That's where we start. And don't make it prettier than it is. Don't make it uglier than it is. Just say that's just where I am right now. All my decisions have led to here. The second question is then we say if I'm going from this to here, what do I need to be supported? Who do I need? Do I need a partnership? Do I need a team? What do I need, do I need a particular skillset? Do I need to go get equipment? You know, what do I need so I can be supported? So if you've gone to a mountain and it's nice and sunny but it might be snowing at the top, you know, you're going to need a range of things to make it all the way to the top. And then who else do you need support, who else do you need to support so that they are giving you all you need to get there? Because you can't do this by yourself. So if you have other people that are going with you, you know, there has to be a collaboration. So the logical conclusion of awareness and support is always collaboration. There is no other logical conclusion. You know who you are, you know where you are at, you know what you're doing it for. You're taking care of people, people are taking care of you. It leads to one and one thing only, it's collaboration. So let's look at what the journey really looks like. So (laughs), you expected that, I know right? So here, so we have the starting point and then we have this idea that this, like great straight line goes straight to the point. What really happens is that there's like this, this like crazy, like waves in our path that, you know, go through unexpected valleys that we didn't even know existed, that are overgrown with a tree in the way, or whatever that might be. So reverse engineering means we are going to be starting at the top. What's the goal? What is the top of the mountain for you? And then you look at what we just did, where your starting point is, and then you figure out the steps to get there. Easy. Not quite, in theory. And then you have to take the steps. So you cannot say if you are an intern today, I'm going to be a CEO of a publicly traded company in one year with a five million dollar salary and a 10 million dollar bonus. You can say this, of course, is it going to happen? Possibly, but probably not likely. So if you want to get from an intern to the CEO of a publicly traded company with a 15 million dollar salary, there are going to be steps along the way. You are going to have to first get a real job, you know? You know, get a paid, full-time job. You have to make it to manager. You have to make it to director. You have to make it to vice president. You have to make it to, you know, president. You have to make it to a C-level position, and then you're going to get to the CEO. That's just the order of things. But if you know where you want to go you can reverse engineer that. And you can say by this time I'm going to need to be at the manager. By this time I'm going to need to be at the director. By this time I'm going to need to be at the vice president. By this time I'm going to need to be there. Same thing for your business. If you say I'm going to double my numbers. Well, you gonna double your numbers. Your numbers are half of this right now. By when are you going to double your numbers? One year, two years, three years? Well, that means you have to double everything that you're doing. You're going to have to double your marketing. You're going to have to double your personnel. You're going to have to double the people that are working with you. You have to double everything to get to double. So that's the reverse engineering process.

I love this course! I moved abroad and I felt in translation, I started loosing who I was, as a consequence I forgot my goal and how make it work. After this course I can say I went back on track, and finally know how to make an effective plan. Thank you Beate! loving your courses.

Beate is amazing... and no fault of hers, bit this one is really hard to watch because it keeps cutting in an out and CreativeLive going off air in the middle of her speaking. Granted this presentation appears to be a re-run, but usually CreativeLive does better technicially. I even tried different browser simultaneously and same result. Hopefully this isn't a ploy to buy it because at this point I would be apprehensive of the same results.
